It’s only taken International Feel three years to get round to giving the brilliant “Adventure Party” a proper release. It first came out on white label in 2011 in stupidly limited amounts, and promptly sold out within hours. It’s arguably the best thing the label has released to date – a thrillingly over-the-top fusion of restless pianos, classic samples and riotous acid house that never fails to slay a dancefloor. Parada 88’s “You’re Gonna Miss Me” – a similarly Balearic chunk of house revivalism – is, if anything, even more rare (supposedly only 30 copies were ever pressed). It is, then, nice to see it included, particularly as it’s another stone cold killer. Added together, these two tracks made one killer release.

VernoN switches to Romansoff’s Raw Tools imprint. As you might expect, the Bud XXL EP is jam-packed with intense machine rhythms, body-shaking electronics and twisted acid lines. As a result, each of the three original tracks tiptoes that fine line between jacking analogue house and raw techno. There’s a vintage Chicago feel to “It Ain’t You”, while “Keep On Dancing” layers a flurry of cowbells atop a jaunty bassline and delay-laden machine grooves. The real killer, though, is “Bud XXL”, a spiraling, in-your-face concoction that sounds like a signifier of a coming apocalypse. Glaswegian-in-Bristol Marco Bernadi reworks “It Ain’t You”, turning it into a freaky chunk of alien funk complete with mutant Detroit synths and chugging drum machine rhythms.

LA 4A/MATRIXXMAN - Sweat

Two tracks each from Delft label boss LA-4A and comrade Matrixxman with a featured appearance by Vin Sol. LA 4A’s lead cut “Sweat” it’s acid techno that straddles the perfect temperature between lukewarm and too hot. The A2, “Harness”, still has an acid vibe, but this time around it sounds more like Plastikman beaten down and remixed by the Restoration crew. Meanwhile Matrixxman delivers gritty flexes of rave in a track that fluctuates between something like Yello’s “Oh Yeah” and Claude Von Stroke’s “Who’s Afraid Of Detroit”, while “Acid City” sounds like Steve Poindexter’s “Work That MotherFucker” with DJ Pierre on the 303.

LAHJ – Miller SC [CCCRAW003]

LAHJ on the Crow Castle Cuts label. The four tracks here more than match the calibre of previous CCC output, with title track “Miller SC” a wonderfully dark yet playful groover with some blinding organ stabs. “Womb” finds LAHJ dip into acid fried techno that feels like it was recorded straight to tape, whilst “The Tinley Effect” strips things back to a more minimal thrust that allows more of the analogue feel to seep through. This leaves “Gears & Greas” to close proceedings in a jerky, rhythmically unpredictable fashion that would appeal to the Pudel crowd.
