Janko Bartelink better known as Hadamard brings us his dope mixture of experimental hip-hop sound, robotic electro funk and bumpin bass music. Hadamard’s – Ass in Bass EP is the 3rd part on Solar One Music’s Elektronische Werke Series, after Dynarec and Q-Chip.
Bumblebee Unlimited – Lady Bug (Remixes) [GLR120003]
Groove Line Records continue with another Patrick Adams & Greg Carmichael produced classic, Lady Bug, by Bumblebee Unlimited, the second in our series of 12 audiophile reissues from the Disco underground. Side A is the Disco Mix by John Morales and Frank Trimarco. A solid kick opens the track before Morales’s trademark percussion is introduced. Then the slick bass, guitar and piano groove play alongside the innovative synth lines and drive the rhythm forward, before the addition of that simple but engaging single note piano groove… the core element of the track, and the synthesized vocal between the Lady Bug in question and the bee who’s chasing her. Side B features the Disco Remix by the legendary Larry Levan. Starting with the full drums and percussion Levan adds each element at an earlier stage than the Disco Mix, so the full track, including the vocal, hits you at just over a minute and doesn’t let go until the fade, giving a more intense dance floor experience.
Albion – Disco Mambo [MME1001]
3 stunning edits made by the master of European Disco: Albion Venables from Sweden. Just a quick description of the tracks, Disco Mambo is as you can imagine, a Disco Mambo track clearly dedicated to the label. Hear The Night comes from an obscure Italian record with some French Vocals in it. And The Mirror Forrest is a beautiful electronic tune coming from an Italian Library record.
VA – Crumbs 002 [CRUMBS002]
Tee Mango rides some seriously wig flipping synth lines over an irresistible tropical groove that just builds beautifully into a bona fide ‘moment’ on the floor. Treating us with two solid gold Soulful extensions: Allenby Chilton takes on a little known Etta jam, amplifies the Funk elements and transforms the song into an altogether more heavyweight workout. Finally Fence take on a rare late 70’s psychedelic Soul tune, again adding some 21st century wide-screen sonics and dancefloor dynamic.
Brian Ellis – Love Is / Electric Body [VR010]
Brian Ellis enlisted two seasoned underground guests to usher in his brand of boogie-funk. ‘Love Is’ features the legendary Egyptian Lover, a master of the 808 and veteran party-rocker on vocoder detail, while on the flip-side, K-Maxx commands the microphone with his signature style on ‘Electric Body’.
House of Jezebel – Back In Dogtown USA [VD16]
Voyage Direct label turns to a man who needs little introduction: Dutch legend and man of many pseudonyms Danny Wolfers aka Legowelt. For this first outing on Voyage Direct, Wolfers resurrects the House of Jezebel alias and delivers two tracks of synth-laden analogue house goodness. “Back In Dogtown USA” sets the tone, as Wolfers layers rising chords, darting electronics and wide-eyed synthesizer melodies over a clattering analogue house groove. Wolfers’ ups the tempo dramatically on “I Took A Train In 1979”, transplanting us to the far reaches of our galaxy via jackin’ techno drums, picturesque organ melodies, drifting chords and intoxicating pads. There are echoes of classic Detroit techno, surging Rotterdam electro and vintage cosmic disco, yet it doesn’t really sound like any of these things.

Head High – Mega Trap [POWERHOUSE505]
Right on cue, Rene Pawlowitz drops another set of Head High bangers just in time for summer. While previous releases from his Power House imprint have been short but sweet affairs, the brilliantly named Megatrap offers a full nine tracks of what Hard Wax have referred to quite concisely as “uplifting Breakbeat Techno in golden 1990s leaning style”. Those who have heard the previous Head High material will know exactly what to expect, but there’s still much excitement to be had in getting stuck into such a sizeable portion of throwback techno, the likes of which are likely to liven up any party. There was never any doubt, but Pawlowitz has done it again.

Klasse Wrecks welcomes Marco Bernardi to it’s ranks with the Spacejam EP. Spacejam is an EP of demented drums, fiddling electronics and refreshing originality, all tracks contained within feature the signature sound of a studio obsessive and capture the many inspirations and influences of the Scottish born DJ and Producer.

Solid deep cuts from anonymous label L.B. Produce. Cosmic synths and crisp shuffled drums combine on a raw but classy debut release from Phrased. Sweaty basement live jams recorded direct to tape.
Mike Gervais – Behind You EP [SYSTEM001]
New label from Minneapolis kicking it of with a big one, Push (2nd track) kick it hard with staccato hits and crispy sounds and takes it to the next level when the warm chords drop in. The 3rd track is a cool variation on this.

Adam-X should need no introduction as he and his brother, Frankie Bones, pioneered techno in a post-disco, pre-Guiliani, New York City through the late-eighties and onwards past the nineties with countless productions under their belts and throwing renegade parties throughout the 5 boroughs. Their record store Sonic Groove served as a hub for purchasing cutting edge electronic music from across the globe and was a meeting point for likeminded freaks throughout the city. Fast foward to 2014, New York City is a shell of what it once was, people have come and gone with the corporate infastructure having eaten its way through any and all subculture. No stranger to change Adam-X has adapted and explored numerous shapes and forms in his electronic music career from X-Crash, to Traversable Wormhole, to his ADMX-71 moniker, on this record, which he uses for more experimental and industrial productions. Througout the three tracks on this record, we get a subdubed yet extremely tense vibe as the carefully composed sounds push and pull against each other slowly trudging to the next destination. Subtle changes throughout, these tracks present a unique take on the traditional EBM sound which upon every listen one will discover something new. Highly recommended for those into the darker territories.
