Woo York – I Am Against [SOMA409]
Ukrainian duo Woo York are set to release their new record that proves to be somewhat representative of recent dramatic events in their country. Entitled I Am Against, both the main track and the EP itself are referring to the developments that lead to revolutionary struggle of the Ukrainian people. Fighting inequality, saying what you have to say and doing what you have to do seem to be the core ideas of the record. You might have figured that out yourself by spotting a rebel protester from Januarys clash with riot police depicted on the record sleeve. The EP also features a special remix from UK Techno producer, [Phase].
VA – Colony 001 [CLNY001]
A rolling and bubbling analogue house and techno release from the newly-minted Vienna-based Wild Open Space imprint. Featuring Phil Madeiski, Felix T and Max Mulder channeling the spirit of Chicago and Detroit with a European production edge.
Jitterbug – Workers EP [UZURI020]
Uzuri 020 comes from Jitterbug. Apparently the title is a nod in support of the global proletariat, but it could equally refer to the floor-worthy nature of the tracks themselves. Truly an EP; you get six tracks of out and out bangers – from straight drum tracks to smoother Summer jams and disco-licked house – each track bringing a fresh flavour.

Cool Peepl – Free Part. 1 [MG054]
Several years in the making Mike Grant finally completes the second Cool Peepl project. Originally assembled in 2002 for the Puzzlebox Sharevari remixes, Cool Peepl is a collection of Detroit artists coming together for a session. Focusing less on machine based tracks, the group focuses on organic productions. “Free” features former Members of the House vocalist Bill Beaver, longtime percussionist Sundiata O.M. and the multi-talented heavyweight Amp Fiddler. Andres comes with the remix.
Chez Damier – Say The Word 01 [SWM001]
Side A offers a brand new track ”Tudor Por Amor” highlight the perfectness of Damier’s roots in house and techno, whilst also doffing a proverbial cap to New York house thanks to it’s percussive vibe. Complementing this is an unreleased version of the Chez classic ”Forever Mona” that subtly recalibrates the late 90s cut for both house and techno ears. On the flip we get a taste of Heart 2 Heart, a new collaboration between Damier and young French producer Ben Vedren, with ”Shigan” featuring in both Rex Dub and Detroit 3000 dub form.

Gavin Guthrie aka TX Connect – Gavin Guthrie aka TX Connect [CREME68-69]
Next up on Creme Organization is Gavin Guthrie Aka TX Connect with a searing double album of analogue tracks aimed at the dancefloor. Up first is ‘Soundtrack 909’, a deep and melodically rich house affair that sooths your soul before ‘00707’ gets rough, jagged and angst with its off time cowbells, brooding hi hats and ever more frantic acid. ‘Palm Sunday’ then explores more cosmic beat territory in playful, colourful style and ‘Metroplex Jaxx’ is a rugged, dystopian and foreboding acid jam with plenty of occult melody work buried deep within. ‘Aqua Finess’ is a wholly malfunctioning acid machine very much doing its own weird thing and on the last side of this double vinyl pack, ‘Desmond’s Obsession’ plays with whacked out electro aesthetics and ‘Haddonfield, IL’ leaves you on a dour and downbeat note thanks to its crawling synths and lumpy hooks. Overall, this is an expansive and expressive double pack from TX Connect that has more than been the wait.

First release for I.vy on her own label Chinese laundry. The delicate task is entrusted to the producer, which presents herself for the first time ever with a release of her own, not surprisingly titled “Vol I”. A careful work, a well illustrated journey, where the four cardinal points are 4 originals marked by a bass line sound that seems to come from a TB 303 just dusted off by a deposit of Mr. Ikutaro Kakehashi .

VA – Tetramer EP [RI004]
Rebel Intelligence was never the most prolific of labels, with its’ first three releases – a trio of excellent analogue workouts from Matt Whitehead – coming out over a two-year period. This fourth 12″ – the imprints first since 2011 – sees a new wave of artists bringing their synthesizers and drum machines to the party. JTC’s “Habit” opens proceedings, sounding not unlike a cross between classic EBM, sparse analogue deep house and pitched-down early Detroit techno. Automatic Tasty impresses with “Winters Evening”, a deliciously melodic chunk of Claro Intelecto style electro, before Elec Pt1 charges off on an intoxicating 303 acid tip (“Daytime Acid”). Finally, Abraham Cowley flies off into space with “Shifting Seasons”, a wonderfully evocative fusion of constantly building analogue beats, melancholic chords and eyes-wide-shut melodies.
Leigh Dickson – Knoe 3/2 [KNOE3/2]
Leigh’s second part in his chapter on For Those That Knoe starts with the blissful house moods of Cresnet. A punchy kick and modulated bassline provide a weighty bottom end, complementing lush pads, sweeping FX, percussive stabs and ethereal strings. Ion is a track that is hard to pigeonhole, Leigh casts all preconceptions aside by creating a grooving piece of dance music that sounds as forward thinking today as I would have when it was written. At One on the flip is a little burst of funk with snappy beats and crisp percussion a fuzzy bassline. Closing out the EP is a previously unheard and unreleased extended version of the timeless electro classic, Praise. Keeping all the elements of the original, this uncovered version has a new beat intro and longer arrangement.
Sir Joe – Max’ Garage [LOD003]
Sir. Joe born in 1987 in America Latina, as teenager he moved with his family to London, during his studies (thanks to his crazy schoolmates) he felt in love with the illegal rave party and with the new school of electronic UK’s music. A quick step that turned him into a music producer. Sir. Joe shaped his sound mixing european and american styles. Old school chicanos’ groove and samples were restyled in the direction of the English and Dutch style. LOD is glad to present Sir. Joe’s debut… again five tracks of pure energy and soul mixed with few drops of acid.

A gorgeous 6-tracker by Norwegian techno/electro/acid artist Retape. The EP takes off where Drexciya and related projects such as The Other People People Place left it in the early 2000s. The title track takes it away and is the most technoid of all with a driving bassline and open hi-hats while long stretched melodies finish it off; this one sucks you onto the dance floor as if it were one big whirlpool. The second cut “Coir” is a serene a downtempo 4/4 track that gets you overwhelmed with an otherworldly melody sneakily coming in about midway. “EMN” then, pulls you straight underwater with its hard hitting snares, plastic bassline and acid feel. The tempo goes up with “Cars”, a delay-heavy spaced out acid track for unstable dance floors. The following track “Rotation” is a beatless excursion into the world of clinical synthesized sci-fi music. The incorrectly named “Moving Down” is the final track and a true upper: high speed melodic electro with a touch of melancholia.
