Multicast Dynamics – Ancient Circuits [AI-17]

Multicast Dynamics returns with a sixth studio album that marks something of a new chapter. Ancient Circuits is an advancement from previous works on Denovali and one that stands the project aside as a powerful electronic act that tells stories while also serving up heavy hitting soundscapes that are persuasive, unexpected and disturbing. Each of the four 25-minute pieces of Ancient Circuits are clearly demarcated yet sequential sci-fi stories that introduce new characters and are drawn out of long and complex studio experiments. They are collages of sound that glimmer, disturb, shine, dive deep and explore new realms and make for ambient so arresting that it pulls you deep inside. Once again here, Multicast Dynamics draws together cinematic sound design and conceptual intergalactic fiction to come up with a work that is a multi-sensory exploration that puts you as the central character in an expressive musical world.

Move D & Benjamin Brunn – Let’s Call It A Day [SMALLVILLELP13]

Smallville Records reissues Move D (David Moufang) and Benjamin Brunn’s 2006 collaborative album, “Let’s Call It A Day” released on BineMusic. This is a complete piece built from seven sections, each one is a microcosm of unique textures, depth, ambience, emotions, programming, looping and melodic rules; Together they are a homogenous creation, a symphony that culminate in dance music experiencing elevation. The way Moufang and Brunn fuse different genres together without committing to any musical doctrine, makes them appear prophetic. However, it is in no sense a retrospect feeling; even at the time it was clear that the perceptions, experience, vision, and delicacy of this album were outstanding.

Psyk – Opal Lake [NON040]

Spanish DJ and producer Psyk returns to his own NON Series with ‘Opal Lake’. This 40th release on the imprint and also the first release of 2020 is a stellar four track techno pack including a collaboration with fellow Spanish producer Architectural. Opening track ‘Biting Nails’ sees a new studio collaboration between the two Spanish techno legends. It’s a deep and emotive jam showing a surprisingly melodic side of both producers. Title track ‘Opal Lakes’ is the most powerful outing on the EP, fierce and driving rhythms melting into hazy atmospheres. With its crispy snares ‘Bell Tair’ flips the energy with an on-point minimalistic percussion workout where ‘Outline’ and its deep drums acidic riffs drags you below see level into a bright and lively underwater world.

Itako – All Human – No Conditions [RAS003]

‘All Human – No Conditions” is the first solo EP by the French producer Itako. The opener “The Country That Does Not Exist” is a slow burning and bass-driven tune in which hypnotic synth and acid lines merge with North African vocal pieces. Thereafter, Itako shows with “Freehands Desire” his darker side. A mid-tempo composition with massive drum patterns and forward-moving melodies. On the flip side, “Groove That Dust” is screwing the tempo back down. Six minutes based on a 90s Hip-Hop sample with an irresistible groove where we assume no one can stand still. The release is rounded off with a remix by MR TC. The Glasgow based musician stretched “The Country That Does Not Exist” into a tribal workout with breaks in which he lets the machines speak for themselves.

Introducing Earth Plates’ second pressing, Gnork’s latest EP, Lost in X. The Budapest based producer takes his signature sound further, deeper, and more refined. Wonder how that would sound like? Rajan James – Impossible Dreams [LER1024]

Rajan James, the Jamaican-born English-raised musician’s ‘Impossible Dreams’ is an inspirational sax-laced single that walks a fine line between North American boogie and British synth-pop influences of the 1980’s, yet manages to sound distinctly her own. Left Ear have salvaged both the unreleased full-length versions, including the instrumental for a 12” single.

Reka X Imperial black Unit – Todo Avaricia [F//016]

‘Todo Avaricia’ by Reka and the duo Imperial Black Unit is the result of an immediate and natural connection forged between the three artists, through a jam session that swiftly and intuitively yielded three tracks of stylistically diverse yet demonstrably cohesive sounds. Featuring the sampled voices of Che Cuevara, Pablo Neruda and original vocals by Reka herself, the EP plays the role of an urgent call to action against political and environmental injustice, conveyed via the musical substrate of new beat, industrial and EBM, fused into a landscape of techno and undeniably constructed for the dancefloor. The EP is rounded off with a heavy-hitting remix of the title track by the prolific Umwelt, in his signature dramatic style.

Millsart – Every Dog Has Its Day part 5 [AX085]

This New Year, Jeff Mills is inviting us to look inward in the form of his Every Dog Has Its Day series. The last time we had an installment came 17 years ago, just enough time for a periodical cicada to emerge from theground, finished with its former life as a nymph. The sixth edition of this series is soon to follow in spring dressed in brown, continuing to deliver a spiritual and emotional raft for you to see that Every Dog Has Its Day. Mills himself has said, “You never figure out life, you just get used to it.” Reflected in this record is that sentiment, that life doesn’t present to you the answers because there are none. What is right and just for you, may not be for me, so how can I share with you any secrets. Electronic music can act as a guide, a catalyst of your headspace; it is not the map.

Shinedoe – Feelings EP [RSPX19]

Shinedoe joins Rekids Special Projects with a synth-driven techno release entitled ‘Feelings EP’. ‘Feelings’ opens on a 90s rave tip with arpeggiated synths, delayed hats, rolling snares and distant voices before ‘Roots Are Calling’ dives in as Shinedoe brings her African grooves back to techno with rattling percussion, reverbed plucks, enticing tom hits and saturated claps. On the flip ‘Nature Save Us’ bounces with mid-range bass, 909 like beat programming, whistling lasers and subtle strings until the ‘Beats Mix’ finalises with a rhythmically charged edit, featuring vocals from Shinedoe herself, pulsing with classic cymbals and sublime layered vocals.
