Tin Man – Underdog EP Part 1 [POM033]
After delivering Absurd Recordings with its first Acid Test in 2011, Tin Man lines up some more acid for Pomelo. For DJs in search of drum track acid techno, “UR”, is a good start. Taking a break from acid, but remaining on the drum trax tip, “Stay Down”, is a brooding and synthy production that keeps itself from straying to close to the red – a perfect DJ tool for more reasons than just functionality.
Patrik Sjeren – WorkThat Body [VR001]
Swedish acid techno legend Patrik Sjern has experienced something of a career revival since an unexpected production credit on a FXHE 12″ last year; this EP for the newly minted Virgo Rising label is his second of 2013 following that excellent 12″ for the Fit operation out of Detroit. Not bad for someone who’s been seemingly absent since a ’95 12″ on the Fuck Pig Recordings label. The lead cut packs similar heat to Steve Poindexter’s seminal “Work That Mutha Fucker” with its hyperactive ’90s-styled acid synths weaving in between hardcore Adam X industrial strength sonics. Sharing the A-side is the cut up, percussive and broken ghetto techno of “Mannitj”, while Adam Rivet’s remix to the title track slows in BPM, opting for something much lighter in comparison, it’s equally jacking, with uplifting synths stopping the EP from becoming too much of a militant monster.
Dez Williams – The Angel Maker EP [EAR004]
Dez Williams with a new release on Earwiggle. Starting with the melting frequencies of ‘Underground Persistent’, acid is in control, combining swingy 808 drums and masterful Detroit strings to a searing acid-line that keeps going and going. Switching things into more straight-ahead acid territory on A2, ‘Untitledacid 6’ has pretty much one intention and that’s to jack hard. ‘Freedom’ on the flip is a dense techno workout that joins a strong looped vocal and distorted percussion to swamping sound fx, in a rough but funky way. This time an expert pad progression brings the track to an unexpected but fitting finale. Finally, and showing what a complete supremo he is where dark floor-friendly electro is concerned, Dez turns in a blistering cut of sci-fi electro with ‘Courtesy Call’.

The Exaltics – Das Heise Experiment [AACIDLP002]
The Exaltics have been rippin’-up the acid vibes for some time now, gathering momentum from the efforts and hard work of imprints such as Solar One Music, Transient Force, Last Known Trajectory, Bunker and Panzerkreuz and of course more recently Crème Organization, Trust and our friends at Abstract Acid. As such, the time has come for a full-length acid project, entitled ‘Das Heise Experiment’ which originates from The Exaltics’ desire to take things a notch deeper, while pushing the acid a step into more menacing and quite devilish territory. For those that appreciate such dastardly dark styles, well, you will not be disappointed with this album. Coarse acid coupled with sublime soundscapes and ubiquitously haunting melodies make for the perfect combination.

Polysick – Daydream LP [AUDIOMER011]
These last few years Rome based producer Egisto Sopor has been turning heads with a steady stream of most excellent releases. A cdr on Legowelt’s Strange Life Records, a tape on 100 % Silk, a double LP on Planet Mu and an evergrowing series of jams that are put on soundcloud or on his youtube channel. All of which offer atmospheric acid tinged techno laced with idiosyncratic touches. He has thus developed quite a cult following among lovers of lo fi electronic music who eagerly await his next grainy video, that feel like lost transmissions from an early nineties MTV broadcast. Polysick doesn’t get out much and keeps a low profile which adds to his rather enigmatic standing.With his new LP ‘Daydream’, Egisto has created the perfect soundtrack to a midnight trip through darkened cityscapes. Starting out like a confused jam session it slowly takes off and twists into uncanny shapes conjuring up images of a futuristic nightlife that plays out under neon lights, with a feeling of dread constantly lurking in the shadows. This is techno that tells a tale; a storyboard that comes pushing through in muffled flashes. A chase scene through deserted back alleys, executed while hunter and prey are both in a half-awake state, stuck in an infinite loop. And when the ambient synth twirls unravel and a 4/4 pulse kicks in and tears through the dreamy state of conciousness, it never signals a reassuring release of tension. You might dance to it, but not without anxiously looking over your shoulder.

First of two new bassheavy techno-ish dub EP’s by Mystica Tribe. Four tracks of excellent electronic dub with heavy techno and acid influences. Although only his second release after his debut in 2011 with ”Meditation Stick” the Japanese Mystica Tribe already delivers a powerful trademark sound: loose, shuffling beats, layered with heavy basses, tribal percussion and trippy elements, like the dark acid tale on titletrack ”Flowers” and the classic melodica stabs on ”Fractale” and ”Moon & Stone”. Tokyo Dub at it’s best.
