Sound Synthesis – Orbital 107 [ORBITAL107]

Maltese producer Sound Synthesis continues a wildly prolific run following not one but two albums dropped this year, not to mention another four EPs before this one. His Orbital Mechanics series has carried some of his most sharply focused electro workouts of the past two years and so it continues with this new care package from the dark side of the circuit board. ‘DNS Musik’ is a nightmarish electro-techno growler, while ‘Programming Your Mind’ has a sleeker approach without disrupting the eerie mood. ‘Endless Moments Of Beauty’ has a stronger melancholic tint to its expansive pads, and ‘Memorable Nights’ lays on some heavy-hearted emotional tones which offer a fine foil to the tougher demeanour of the A-side.

Blotter Trax – Superconductor LP [OMLP27]

Blotter Trax was a collaboration between two storied artists, techno titan Magda and serial underground aggravator (and man of many aliases) Jay Ahern. Now they are back in updated and expanded form, a trio thanks to the addition of bassist Hannes Strobl. The band will release their far-sighted, funk-fuelled debut album, “Superconductor”. A pulsating, thrill-in-minute ride includes contributions from a swathe of notable guests (Nina Hynes, Ilhem Khodja and David Moss provided vocals, Shigeru Tanabu played guitar, Matthew Styles mixed the set and John Tejada mastered it). While rooted in electro and acid, the album is impressively low-slung, stylish and funky, with nods towards Blotter Trax’s mutual love of Arthur Russell, early ‘80s NYC downtown disco, leftfield new-wave pop and flash-fried punk-funk.

Ninechecker – Generating Coastline EP [ORSON027]

Ninechecker is an electro producer from Ontario, Canada, who released with Delsin and Central Processing Unit to name a few. Adding to his extensive releases belt, he delivers four stone cold new ones for electro-techno-breakbeat Orson. With its name maybe nodding to the generative creation of fantasy landscapes in 3D CGI software, highlights like ‘Magagun’ convey a weird kind of horrific calculator-nightmare (bloop freakouts aplenty) between the beats, all going to make this a stellarly exciting EP.

Lennard Ypma – Ladies Jam [VOLREC001]

Leftfield electro and acid for Lennard Ypma’s debut ‘Ladies Jam – on his own label Volunar Records. BLS and GH-1S on the A-side make up for a heavy West Coast and electro journey. The remix of GH-1S by Beau Wanzer is also not to be missed, with his signature touch and a nauseating bassline. Flip the record to the B-side for two mind-bending acid cuts. Ladies Jam is a heavily distorted and mechanic track with eerie leads that will drag you through acid punches, while Betonsmeer offers a slowed-down bunker-style cruise with earworming acid and heavy percussion.

Mike Parker – The Devil’s Curators Vol. 3 [SPAZIO026]

Mike Parker lands his third chapter in The Devil’s Curators series on Spazio Disponibile. Impressively warping time and tempo’s with five iconic cuts of his deep mind trips. From down tempo acid riffs to shuffling dnb, hysteric drones and his trademark metal kick drums, it’s another package showing true style isn’t bound to one genre.

Adrian Marth feat Diana Berti – Crystal Ball Visions EP [KRI003]

The third KRI Records release features the infamous Italo Moderni label boss Adrian Marth joining forces with the Italian EBM master Diana Berti (Violet Poison) and it’s a belter. Warm and punchy analog beats are spiced with haunting melodies and sinister pads that will break even the toughest of ravers. Sturdy EBM-ish, dark italo and wave production is cushioned with Adrian’s mysterious vocals adding yet another layer to a diverse EP accompanied by two heavy-weight remixes by Chino & Chupacabras.

Ekman – The Strange Vice of.. Ekman [CREME12-102/CREME12-103]

Creme Organization presents a retrospective of sorts, compiled from dozens of unreleased tracks from literally two decades of producing, these gems were collecting dust in the vaults of Ekman. Ekman takes us to a journey deeper into the woods with his unique brooding electro, vivid sparkling soundscapes and minimum for the maximum dirty brown The Hague Acid (TM). Evocative and eerie electro from the Dutch master. The compilation is splitted into two parts including 7, respectively 6 tracks.

Redshape – Acid Leak [RB117]

Redshape’s visits to Running Back are a welcome recurrence and a soothing reminder that techno and house can still come in several shapes and sizes. Related and referring to earlier acid studies on Release Me and to a certain extend on Rise, the masked man continues to find new approaches to the 303 canon with Acid Leak.

Raw Takes – ZMNT008 [ZMNT008]

Raw Takes offers up exactly that – perfectly imperfect electro jams direct from his machines. He takes charge of all six cuts on this new Zement EP. ‘901 Area’ opens with wobbly sheet metal synths and zippy pads that eventually coalesce around a nice snappy electro breakbeat. ‘Sxx’ pairs ambient pads with machine gun laser fire and ‘JMS’ then brings a more deep and reverential viber. The rich variation continues on the flip so that there is everything from tripped-out acid to hard-hitting and ear-drum-shattering electro-tech.
