STL – Flying Objects [SOMETHING015]

STL - Flying Objects

Detroit beat down & Chicago oldschool house inspired house cuts. Eight tracks and four locked grooves of raw and diverse House music from the inimitable STL. Constantly changing the game, he nods to KMS style rave with the nasty synth licks of ‘Dark Energy’, while ‘Like This’ nods to earliest Chicago House with wickedly ’80s sounding stabs followed by two minutes of rave-starting air raid sirens. Getting trickier, ‘Don’t Follow Me’ is a pure and deadly piece of drum programing magic.

Makam – How Long Is Now? [SUSHP17]

Release Picture

Guy Blanken aka Makam delivers a nice collection of modern house tracks spread on a 3×12” full length. The album is comprised of almost entirely new material. Makam has shown a strong propensity for classic-rooted house grooves these past two years, which will no doubt carry over to this debut full-length.

Tony Lionni – As One [FRCD027JU]

TONY LIONNI - As One image

Manchester-raised and Berlin-based producer Tony Lionni will release his debut album, As One, this fall on Freerange. Though he’s been tinkering with music for roughly two decades, Lionni’s career took off in 2008 with a slew of 12-inches on respected labels like Mule Electronic, Wave Music and Aesthetic Audio. He’s been extremely active since his debut, releasing dozens of tracks in under two years, including the euphoric crowd-pleaser “Found a Place” on Ostgut Ton (reworked here as “Found Another Place.”) As One boasts all new tunes by Lionni, and features a guest appearance by Ferrispark deep house artist Marvin Belton.

Onmutu Mechanicks – Nocturne [ECHOCORDCD08]

NOCTURNE (CD)

Onmutu Mechaniks is an alter ego of the prolific Arne Weinberg for Echocord. To date it’s given us two 12″s of loners techno soul, a vibe he expands and asserts with ‘Nocturne’. From the dub stasis of ‘Catatonic’ he guides us on an inward trajectory with the heavy breathing shuffle of ‘Aspiring To Aspire’ and continues an internal spiral with the soundtracky space of ‘Lupos Moon’, recalling the bleakness of Demdike Stare’s spare grooves. Down the line and the sleep-techno of ‘Neutrino’ only keeps consciousness because of its metronomic woodblock, before ‘When You Return’ inhabits the blue zones of Signer or Fluxion and ‘Across The Styx’ pulls the rhythmic anchor to drift in placid dub lagoon. With ‘Nocturne’ Arne proves he knows how to sooth and salve heads with elegance and substance, resulting in a sumptuous listen from start to finish.

Shed – The Traveller [OSTGUTCD014]

One of the most cherished artists in the Ostgut family, Shed returns with his sophomore album “The Traveller”.  It’s a more subtle and perhaps more confident record than Shedding The Past,  taking in austere dub minimalism (‘The Bot’), gauzy ambient interludes (‘STP 2′), imperious acid techno (‘My R-Class’), and, on closing track ‘Leave Things’, a kind of scuffed, ecstatic jungle reminiscent of Aphex Twin’s ‘Polynomial-C’. FACT’s Kiran Sande called up Pawlowitz in Berlin to discuss the LP, and the unlikely debt it owes to the Pet Shop Boys…”

Savas Pascalidis – Nuclear Rawmance [SWSH004]

artwork

‘Nuclear Rawmance’ is soundwise very different from Savas’ Pascalidis previous albums, so it can clearly be seen as his first Longplayer in a new sea of sounds. Over 12 masterfully produced cuts, all created in his studio using a veritable bank of hardware, Savas pours out his musical heart. From tough, old school edged house, to raw, jacking techno, dub atmospheres and smokey warehouse epics.

Patrick Pulsinger – Impassive Skies [DB154]

The return of Vienna’s producer legend with a fresh 2010 techno album incorporating influences from late 1970s disco/wave punk, 1980s electro, 1990s advanced techno & a timeless intergalactic jazz feel. All eight tracks on the album show great diversity in style and musical approach. Several guest musicians and vocalists played an important part in the development of the album.

Efdemin – Chicago [DIALCD021]

After the huge success of his selftitled debut in 2007 CHICAGO is the second album of the Berlin-based Producer and DJ who releases his music under his moniker EFDEMIN with DIAL Records. CHICAGO is definitely the top match of Dial’s 10 Years Anniversary releases. Efdemins new works can be regarded as the turning point of a trend based house and techno scene into a new contemporary anti trend movement.

Matthias Reiling – Das Gespenst Von Altona [GLGLP01]

DAS GESPENST VON ALTONA (LP)

The first LP on Giegling is the debut album for Matthias Reiling (1/2 of Session Victim), called “Das Gespenst von Altona” (The ghost of Altona) – Altona is a district of Hamburg. Going from house to hip/triphop, this guy shows that he’s got the funk – and lots of groove to share.

Mike Dehnert – Part 2 [FW012-1]

MIKE DEHNERT - Part 2 image

‘Part 2’ is essentially a status report on the last 12 months or so in Mike Dehnert’s world. He re-evaluates and modifies tracks from three previous releases, together with a handful of new cuts in a set of tidy versions for the digital crew. Both ‘Umluft’ cuts hit heavy with that stern German/Detroit flavour while ‘WH1′ and WH2’ serve perpetual techno revisions from the ‘Poutres EP’ and elsewhere we get killers from the ‘Dico’ EP.
