Romanian producer Cosmin TRG release his debut artist album, Simulat, on Fifty Weapons. Made up of 12 new tracks, each has been exclusively produced for the album whilst CD-only track ‘Fizic’ is the lead single, as it was already released in June. There are tracks which will work both on and off the dancefloor, but it’s the way they’re threaded together and make for one cohesive and coherent statement overall that stands them apart. Taking appropriate detours into deeper pockets; areas of warm analogue ambiance and abstract alien sounds, there are traces of everything that has gotten Cosmin to this point so far, all re-visioned with an ever shifting focus. Once again confirming Cosmin to be a producer in constant experimental flux, Simulat speaks loudly of an essential talent.

Detroit heavyweight Jeff Mills has always been one of techno’s visionaries, prone to translating great concepts into near-cinematic soundscapes. Given techno’s roots, it’s no surprise that many of these concepts have been inspired by science fiction, and in particular obscure sci-fi films. Inspired by Franklin Adreon’s 1966 film Cyborg 2087, “2087” offers a dark and uneasy but at times brilliant mix of intense dancefloor techno, creepy electronica, woozy ambience and clunking IDM – all designed to mirror the cloying futurist horror of the original film.

Parade Ground has always been the duo of brothers Jean-Marc and Pierre Pauly from Brussels, Belgium formed in 1981. Taking cues from Post-Punk, Cold Wave, Dada and Surrealism, Parade Ground channeled suffering, tension and rage through pulsing synthesizers, skeletal guitar, severe bass and Jean-Marc’s expressive vocals as the most melodic and emotional instrument. “The Golden Years” is an 11-song, career-spanning collection of Parade Ground’s long out-of-print 7” and 12” singles as well as rare compilation tracks from the pioneers of emotional body music created during 1982-1988.

Samiyam – Sam Baker’s Album [BF022]
“Sam Baker’s Album” operates within recognisable Brainfeeder territory: instrumental tracks with compressed sound; unquantized, misshapen beats, with an analogue haze hanging over it all like smog (although Baker actually works digitally, favouring the Roland SP-303). But within these familiar parameters Baker successfully applies his creativity to making funk-derived sample-based hip hop sound fresh.
Philippe Laurent – Hot-Bip [MW028]
Minimal Wave is proud to present a full length LP by French mastermind Philippe Laurent. The LP is entitled Hot-Bip, a pseudonym Laurent used throughout the 80s and 90s and also the title of his 1983 cassette on Fraction Studio. Hot-Bip features tracks recorded between 1979-1988, most of which have either remained unreleased or only previously appeared on scarce 80s experimental cassette compilations. Laurent’s music can be described as spacey synthpop, containing much depth and range. Hints of classical influences as well as electro influences can be heard.
