Unbalance – Unbalance #10 [UNBALANCE010]

Seven years ago, Unbalance created his own label as a base for his musical ideas; a platform to play around with the conception of what ”techno” is and would be alongside his own creative progression. Come to present day and the label is now at its ninth release, reaching a point where the line of accumulated experiences must be drawn in the sand — and the experiences of previous projects and releases lead to venerable conclusion. Enter Ten, an album of internalized strife that was created during a period of big changes in the artist’s life. Between enduring personal experiences, his creative output veering between his straightforward club eccentricities and subdural sensibilities; Unbalance cultivates a symbiotic link between sounds played and sounds portrayed — whilst paying tribute to the essence of groove, vibration and the hypnotic unknown that exists to balance the scales. This album will be the final point in the label’s journey into the depths of multifaceted techno music.

Unbalance – Unbalance#6 [UNBALANCE006]

Alexander Matlahov’s self-released series of 12″s sees the sixth installment the Russian producer is diving into grainy industrial textures and restrained menace. “Devastation” worms its way into a streamlined cycle with the usual Unbalanced style of intricate rhythm, using vast sweeps of unsettling tones to steer the energy in the track. “Advent” is a decidedly warmer affair that exudes melodic warmth with rich layers of synth and a heart-rending string line. “Long Waiting” however sees a return to more icy tones with another detailed and dub-infected beat.

One of the deepest techno musicians out there Unbalance returns to Mutex Recordings with an incredible sound collage. His “Sand EP” is going to take you on a long journey through the unknown Siberian soundscapes. Dutch veteran techno producer Jeroen Search supplied two remixes of “Dependence” with some jacking 909 rhythms and spooky synths to add more dancefloor tension to the sound of this marvelous EP.

Unbalance – Unbalance #3 [UNBALANCE003]

Russian producer Unbalance continues to present his own vision of the many differing strains of techno for the third in an ongoing series of hand stamped clear twelve inches. On the A Side, “Legacy” jitters with peak time intent, as granite like textures collide rhythmically with the insistent jagged syncopation, with Unbalance deftly judging when to adopt an increase in pressurised poise. In comparison “Euphoria” commences in the deepest recesses, with the saturated bass throb becoming ever more viscous as the track bumps along, craftily accruing intricate sonic details which lend the track a woozy hypnotic narcosis. The mood gets drawn ever further down on the final, sludgy sounding “Violet’s Night” where fractured textures battle it out with the rattling percussion amidst swarms of cricket like atmospherics.

UNBALANCE - Unbalance #1 (Front Cover)

More uncompromising techno sounds from Russia as Unbalance starts his newly minted label of the same name with this triple header arriving on strictly limited, hand stamped clear vinyl. “Rhythm Slave” sets the tone, wasting little time settling into a heavily pressurised groove of throbbing acid oscillations and glowering bass movements, shards of percussion bouncing off in rhythmic fashion. The screw is tightened to breaking point, at which Unbalance drops some pneumatic hi-hats. Coincidentally, the track adopts a druggy, knackered sound akin to Andy Stott when played at the wrong speed. Turn over for the sci fi freakery of “Deep Journey” which eschews the locked groove dynamism of the A Side for a descent into a thick soup of growling mechanical textures. “Meteor” operates somewhere between the previous two productions, as skipping syncopation drives through the desolate industrial soundscape.
