With his fulminant debut ep “Untitled Dubs”, RAWAX became over night an incredible focus in the techno scene worldwide. Unbroken Dub aka Denis Safiullin was let’s say the co-founder of it and still a very close friend of the label. No wonder that now comes Denis’ 7th release and follow up to the first one called “Untitled Dubs 2”!

Unbroken Dub – Trashbin EP [RAWAX10.10]
Rawax closes the 10″ series with an EP from the Russian producer Unbroken Dub. It’s a simple two-tracker this time around, with the A side given over to the mid-air suspension of “No Feel”. Whether the languid guitar strums in the distance or the heavily filtered drums out front, it’s a haunting and evocative swirl of a track, hovering in a dense fog of harmonic interference. “Computer (Dubs)” plunges into deeper territory where the dubbed delays push out cosmic pulses that rinse the feedback for all its worth. Yet again it’s exemplary stuff from an always-on-point producer.
VA – Field Records – Collection [FCD001]
Field Records is to release a 2CD compilation of music from the labels artists old and new entitled simply, Collection. The imprint keeps up the Dutch tradition of releasing deep, Detroit-inspired electronic music with high-class contributions from various artists. Built on minimalism and modesty, the boutique label has expanded into a consortium for quality since first emerging in 2008. Artists such as Conforce, Delta Funktionen, DJ Sprinkles, Steffi, Mark Du Mosch and many other assured talents have all appeared on the label before now with sounds that range from deep, classically include house to more rough edged and raw techno. It’s much the same case on this expansive new two CD release, which will also be offered up as 3 x vinyl sampler. Across both CDs, established artists rub shoulders with more recently emerging talents and plenty of coherent and creative ground is covered in the exclusive new tracks. Things start off with the grainy ambiance of Sons Of Melancholia’s ‘Theme From The Lake’ before the likes of Delsin’s Unbroken Dub serves up a crawling bit od dubbed out techno, Acronym explores finely planed techno minimalism and Polar Inertia gets all heady and industrial on their ‘Sonic Outlaws’ contribution. Disc 2 starts off with lumpy ambiance before evolving through broken beat pieces, streamlined and stripped back techno and frazzled acid workouts. As a listening experience from start to finish this compilation works perfectly, too, because it never repeats the same trick. Featuring an exquisite selection of tracks by talented artists as well as contemporary favourites, Collection functions as a blueprint of the sound of the Field records label, delving into new geographical and musical territory in style.
VA – 100DSR/VAR1 [100DSR/VAR1]
Seventeen years after it’s first release, Delsin is soon to hit the landmark catalog number of 100. Truth is, taking into account choice re-issues and specials such as the recent house series, there have already been scores more than 100 releases. Nevertheless, in that time the Dutch label has become synonymous with a wide range of timeless sounds from house to techno to dub to electronica, nurturing and championing some of the most respect names in the scene. To mark the occasion, the label is to release five new various artist EPs throughout the rest of the year. This one includes tracks by Claro Intelecto, Gerry Read and Unbroken Dub.
Unbroken Dub – Deepfrozen Soil EP [RAWAX013]
Siberian producer Unbroken Dub returns to his regular home of Rawax for the Deepfrozen Soil EP. “Mansi Song” places a simple phased bassline and undulating textures in an echo chamber environment, keeping its kicks low in the mix, while “Deepfrozen Soil” takes an even more sedate approach, as a simple kick drifts through a glacier of weeping pads. On the flip, “Low Freq Vibes” offers a similarly placid take on house, but its “Dub Layer” that impresses most, containing some particularly Basic Channel-inspired textures, as malleable chords bounce around inside an increasingly narrow confine.
Unbroken Dub – Checkpoint EP [94DSR]
Siberian producer Unbroken Dub makes his debut on Delsin Records. The three track Checkpoint EP kicks off with ‘I Want To Make This Louder’, a widescreen, gently undulating soundscape with scraping percussion and thick, smeared synths. Cutting through the dense dub fug are sharp edged percussive ticks, driving the track forwards gently as more and more analogue textures unfold and unfurl. ‘Det Special’ is less smooth and more choppy, rising up and down as abrasive white noise swirls add caustic surfaces to the hopping wood block hits and buried deep in the mix bassline. Again, it’s seriously analogue and as cerebral as it is physical. Closer ‘Insane’ is a much brighter cut, instead of sounding introverted and melancholic it offers some hope thanks to the buoyant hi hat ringlets, up right kick drums and glassy, tinkling echo of percussion. Contrasting heavy bass with light percussion as he does, this young producer continues to find new life in the ancient form of dub.
Unbroken Dub – Kosmos EP [RAWAX010.2]
