Kelpe – Monte Verita [DBADUB002]

Kelpe makes his first outing on Don’t Be Afraid as part of their coveted DBA DUBS series. Monte Verit sees the London based beat veteran at his housiest (sic) yet. The track sports a low slung four to the floor and a deadly analogue funk bassline. Kevin Reynolds improvises on the original with a more upbeat outsider house groove and an acid line guaranteed to bring the dancefloor to its knees.

Mark Hand – Remind Me [SIG.MMXI.VIII]

Take a twilight drive down the A19 with the billowing steam of Redcar steel works in the distance and the exotic promise of the lights of Teeside’s chemical industry on the horizon. A wonderfully produced; debut vinyl 12”, direct from the moody streets of Hartlepool, filled with all the analogue warmth and low frequencies required for late night dancefloors and early morning reflections.

VA – 001 [STUDIOR001]

001 (VINYL ONLY / 180G)

Studio R is a new label from the minds behind the identically named Internet TV station based in Berlin. The mission for the imprint runs parallel to the goal of the station: to document modern club culture. Thus, we will release a series of vinyl split EPs featuring famous names showcased alongside new talents. The first EP presents New York-raised but now Berlin-based Fred P, who shares the A-side with another recent New York-to-Berlin transplant, Eric Cloutier, here making his awaited production debut on vinyl. For the B-side, Moscow is in the spotlight with offerings from well-regarded Russian talents Anton Kubikov and Korablove. It’s a perfect type of deep for summer 2013.

James Booth – Reunion [SILK053]

Memory-taper James Booth trickled through his teen years in Manchester tracking melancholia house shadows and overcast bedroom bangers on a home-rigged dictaphone/Tascam arrangement, and though he’s since upgraded his studio assemblage the essential agenda remains unchanged. “Reunion” is his debut, documenting ten of his choicest Northern isolation reveries, a Polaroid-hued tube-ride-turned-rhythm-odyssey through 150 shades of grey, from the nocturnal ice-house jazz of “End Tipsy” to the foggy, 5 AM club deja vu, “Seeing Voices.” An alternately hushed and hypnotized journey to the end of the night, in search of pleasures known and unknown.

Leo Gunn – Sea Changes EP Vol. 1 [DEEPEX029]

As an intermittent feature over at Deep Explorer, Leo Gunn makes his second vinyl appearance for the label appearance with some typically astute deep house ponderings, starting off with the lush undulations of “Dancing With Dreams”. “Come Down” gets into a tripped-out mind state of a different nature with its soulful key progressions, although still very much in that elegant vein championed by Deep Explorer. “Open Spaces” brings equal amounts of wistful atmospherics, although over a slightly more pronounced beat, while “Quiet” sees Dubbyman getting in on a reconstruction that lets cheeky synth flutes amongst other things dart into the blissed-out mix.

Mihai Popoviciu – Sortable EP [PR005]

Mihai Popoviciu joined the team for the fifth vinyl release of the Popcorn Records’ fabric. The record starts with Sortable, evolving with a deep vibe around a subtle patch that conveys you in weightlessness. The whole theme is sprinkled with a synth that unconsciously reminds you the cue of a famous pink comic of your childhood. D’Julz made a rework using all the elements in a total different way, focusing on the drum’s effects. On the B face, Blur close this records with melodic patches and slight strings flying around a deep bass for a perfect summer result.

Two tracks, featuring ‘Tree Of Life’ which originally came out on Ron trent’s Future Visions Records & a new and raw late night track called Deep Thoughts. Two remixes come in the form of French Life Recorder & Seed Records man Bradford James. Life Recorders version is deep yet heady & continues from the original tree of life with the vocals and deep synced chords. Bradford James remix turns it on its head with deep congo groves and club drums.
