Awanto 3 – Holy Mozes [RHVD009]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS489961-01A-MED.jpg

Two hot new tracks from Steven De Peven aka Awanto 3 with a beauty of an Aardvarck remix. ‘Holy Mozes’ builds on a positively funky 80’s beat that reminds somewhat of Prince’s danciest grooves. The long, loopy synth stabs that Awanto 3 adds give away his history with Rednose Distrikt, as this sound was one of their trademarks. It also gives the track its dusty funk as it rolls into the quirky cross-over swinger it becomes.

OCH vs Jay Bliss – The Remix EP [AUTO015]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS493072-01A-MED.jpg

OCH has a strong pedigree of collaborations with fellow underground stalwart Jay Bliss the latest to share space on a Autoreply record with the label boss. Bliss should be known to many as the co-owner of Electrique Boutique alongside Markus Homm, for a long time the only vinyl outlet in Romania, and his discography makes for impressive reading these days. Recent times have seen Mr Bliss share record space with the likes of Skudge and Petre Inspirescu on respected imprints like 20:20 Vision, All Inn, Hudd Traxx and Fear Of Flying. AUTO 015 kicks off with a bouncy rework of OCH’s “Scammell” from Bliss featuring sub-aqua sound-scapes and sonar blips on an instantly playable US inspired groove. OCH’s original has a distinctly liquid approach possibly referencing the work of LTJ Bukem and Good Looking over techno framework. Jay’s main offering “Men Are From Mars” is sexy controlled acid which OCH shifts up a gear for peak time floor-play layering the original TB303 patterns to thundering climax. Road-tested on Eleven Club, Tokyo’s Alpha System’s custom speakers.

DJ Duke presents Freedom – Closer [LT1A003]

This is the first of two 12s containing one of our absolute favourite tracks from prolific producer Ken Duke aka DJ Duke. Closer was orginally released back in 1994 on Dukes Power Music Records and the amazing Klubb Kidz mixes quickly found its way into many DJs record bags, including label boss Mad Mats who rates the Flava Dub as one of his favourite deep house cuts of all time. If u ever heard Mats spinning a house set chances are big youve heard this mix blasted loud! First up for remixes duties this time is Mark Seven, Parkway/Parkwest label owner, a true DJs DJ, a passionate music lover and record collector extrodinare. The So Close Mix of Closer is deep house at its finest, an homage to the classic Prescription sound keeping it ultimately atmospheric. The Stalker mix continues on the same vibe yet develops into something more meaty and pumping during its course. Together with the original Klubb Kidz Flava Dub and the Mark Seven mixes this release got everything a true deep house head needs.

Miltiades – EPK.X [US001]

Expansive, discordant, deep house from Greeces newest electronic imprint Nous. The labels name hints at what to expect from this stable, exploring its own cultural heritage (the word means Mind in Greek) whilst looking at a future in which commonality and harmony need to take center stage. This debut release from the label navigates a curiously melancholy space in which the Motor Citys dissonant influence melds with a robust club sensibility, to construct a late night, eyes down, dance floor narrative. As well as a quartet of original cuts from the EPs author, Chicagos Hakim Murphy contributes a subterraneous take on the lead track that will no doubt charm fans of Theos Sound Signature or Rick Wades Harmonie Park.

With the ‘Tropical Interlune’ LP, a wonderful package full of high-level soulful analog house grooves, Rio Padice’s purpose is to bring us into a journey to celebrate 70’s atmospheres and sounds. Tornado Wallace’s massive “Thinking Allowed” EP gets a nice re-rub! Side A brings mysterious bella, Nina Amnesia, on board for a crispy 909 workout of “Bit 1” — a  nice float on the breeze, ready for Summer! On side B, Pharaohs do what they do best, adding warmth and live instrumentation to the title track while losing the original vocal altogether — a welcome transformation.

Moon B – Sussegad [PPU048]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS483116-01A-MED.jpg

Atlanta-based Moon B returns to the PPU label with a new transmission called Sussegad! Both the masterfully lo-fi modern funk of his PPU debut and the subsequent analogue thump of Moon B’s Entropic Feelings 12? for newcomers Going Good have been characterized by a nonchalant disregard for the art of the track title, rife as they are with “untitled” arrangements. Lead track “Oof” was apparently inspired by the producer’s performance at Brooklyn event Mutual Dreaming, so consumed with creative urges after the party was he. Complementing this are two of his rugged gems culled from that aforementioned performance at Mutual Dreaming. Essential cuts for fans of modern analogue funkateering.

Fred P. – Reach EP [AHD004]

New York’s born and raised Fred Peterkin makes his debut on the A Harmless Deed label. “Reach” on the A side is a total dancefloor burner. Keeps building from start to the end, having the peaking point when the arpeggio comes up fading in at the middle of the track. B side, “In the blue”, is the deep cut of the record and its a perfect example of Freds dubby and warm feeling.
