Theo Parrish – Hand Made [RB036]

Theo Parrish’s second visit to Running Back is all new material – almost. Black Mist in its extended version is just that: an extended take of the already released version on the rare-as-hens’-teeth Sketches pack. Previously unreleased and no less persuasive are Pop Off and Wild Out. While the first one centers around an endless piano and sucks you into the magic of repetition, the second one sounds like a Theo Parrish demo for Dance Mania after he came back from listening to Lil Louis at the Bismark Pavilion.

Robert Owens & Tone Control – Starting With Me [TNCL012]

Tone Control return with house music vocal legend, Robert Owens for a steppin’, bass led mantra for the dance floor. Tone Control bring in soulful house star, Sean McCabe on Moog, Rhodes and Organ to complete ”Starting With Me”. Working the analogue delays, ”Stuck On Loop” is a dark and serious dubbed out excursion. Glaswegian producer, James Johnston has been making big waves for vinyl loving, deep house heads recently (recent Juno #2, regular top 5) – he turns in a heavy chorded, bumpin’ dub remix

Ben Sims – In The City [THEORY039]

The prolific run of Ben Sims and his Theory imprint shows no sign of stopping, this time it’s a tough but DJ friendly 3 tracker featuring remixes from 2 of Holland’s finest. Orlando Voorn, a bonafide Techno legend, graces the E.P with a firing and typically quirky, funked up, analogue drenched reworking. While ‘Ritzi Lee’ returns with another no nonsense, raw as fuck, balls to the wall monster.

Mr. G – State Of Flux [REKIDS011DA]

MR G - State Of Flux

Back and cooking up more funk and flavor with his second album for Rekids, Mr G proves he’s still the king of rhythm with ‘State Of Flux’. Packing more history than most of the top current producers put together, Mr G has been fine-tuning his breed of music for two decades. Described by the man himself as “it’s all about a bassline”, his music takes the formula of a ballad and the movement of reggae.

VA – The Box Vol. 4 [THEORY038]

The Box series returns on Theory with 3 peak time tough edged tracks. “Bite This” sees Ben Sims drop an anthemic analogue fuelled jacker. “Reverse Processed” from Holland’s Ritzi Lee is an uncompromising old school Techno banger and “Dry Run” by Paul Mac is a drum heavy DJ tool with a crowd pleasing vocal sample

Sanys – Forward Thinking Logic [DF003]

More business from the man like Sanys, on his fledging Downfall Theory label. Like previous releases the mastering and cut on these records is truly electrifying, and sure to send currents of energy through most underground rave dungeons. “Forward Thinking” has rattling percussion against a sonic bed of luminescent strings, twangy acid bleeps and an intermittent piercing lead. “Front Row” is more heads down. The phasing percussion jars rigidly in between the grooves while some filters get to work on the pads. A head-mangling track which should get people pulling out the strangest of shapes, if they manage to keep vertical that is.

The Secret Initiative – 05 [TSI005]

The Secret Initiative return with the latest chapter in the series. Going for a classic Detroit and Chicago Techno House vibe. ”East of the Northern Star” blends dark dub-ish chords , deep melodies over classic 909 Wild Pitch styled drum rhythms. On the flip side ”Half A Life Ago” is a proper classic Detroit drum driven fueled affair layered with a lower the low deep hertz baseline , melancholic strings.
