Dez Andrés & Victor Kiswell – Casablanca LP [SPTLTE004]

‘Casablanca’ first started as a party exploring the depths of Arabic grooves from Northern Africa and the Middle East, brought to life by two musical legends…Parisian digger Victor Kiswell, known for his journey through the world’s rarest records and influential NTS radio sets, and Dez Andrés, a Detroit native whose roots in the city’s hip-hop and house scene are matched by his love for soul, fun, and jazz. The two artists have stepped into the studio to bring the same energy and ethos from their party to this album.

Dez Andres – Culture Shock [AUDI004]

ANDRES, Dez/VARIOUS - Culture Shock

Although he started his career back in the early 2000s and has links with Moodymann’s Mahogani Music label, Andres’ profile has increased of late thanks to a string of brilliant EPs for M1 Sessions and his own La Vida . The time is surely right, then, to drop his first commercially available mix CD. As you’d expect, it’s firmly rooted in soul, effortlessly joining the dots between disco-funk, jazz, slow jams, global beats and summery Latin flavas. Opening with the Universal Robot Band’s impeccable “Dance and Shake Your Tambourine”, Culture Shock sits somewhere between a particularly good radio show and a dancefloor-bating mix-up, making it perfect for home listening. It also includes Gilberto Gil’s disco era samba classic “Toda Menina Baiana”, which is never a bad thing.

Hipodrome’s 2012 Review (Part 1)

After three fruitful years of existence and daily careful surveillance of the electronic music scene, I’ve decided, for the first time, to draw a line and make a review of the year that is just closing.

I will make the review in two parts, the first is dedicated to our followers and their choices from this years. So, I will make a list with the most successful post on my blog, the releases that gathered the most likes and clicks in 2012 for our visitors. The second part of the review, will include my own picks and I will present some of my favorite albums of different genders. Also I will make a review of the best parties and acts I’ve attended this year.

Electric Street Orchestra – Scorpio [DTR01A]

ELECTRIC STREET ORCHESTRA feat MAD MIKE BANKS/CHAOS/THEO PARRISH/DEZ ANDRES/DUMINIE - Scorpio

While a series of projects are slated for release under the Dirt Tech Reck banner, the first is the Electric Street Orchestra. Its inspiration is from those who are called street people. Forgotten people from a forgotten city. It’s also steeped in the Detroit tradition of ignoring the notion of genre and taking a broad range of elements and inspiration to create something that is both new and familiar. Bringing together a constellation of Detroit’s sonic masters. DTR-01 takes UR’s Mad Mike and Agent Chaos, house music king Theo Parrish, hip hop/house percussionist Dez Andres, and rock/funk master guitarist Duminie Deporres, and joins them through the lens of Jeedo’s vision of the future.
