Aux Tha Masterfader – Ready To Dance [BAP071]

Aux Tha Masterfader may sound like a creature beamed in from a distant galaxy, yet he’s the latest homegrown talent to join the Bordello. But don’t be mistaken, there’s a definite space influence to his sound. Drums come with a southern flavour in the vocoder dipped “Ready To Dance”. Steeped in the rhythms of Rimini, this is a track that will whisk you away into happiness. It’s the laser light synthlines that capture the ear in the clean and shining “Tennis Record”. Bars glide against an iced background, chords gleaming amongst claps and warming bass.

Massimiliano Pagliara – Connection Lost Pt. 2 [UV038]

For the second part of his “Connection Lost” series Massimiliano Pagliara teaches a lesson in how to translate Disco music in a modern language of sound. Without further ado “Trying To Hide But Then I Cried” comes across as pure dance floor material. Above a drum-fueled foundation various synths swell up and down while the bassline is pumping steadily for an irresistible groove. “If You Were Here” on the other hand benefits from similar ingredients but has a rather dreamy feel to it. Thanks to its elegiac pads and pensive synth melodies. “Ukulele Groove” takes its time to build things up but when the bassline and those distinctive synth stabs come in you can’t help but hope for a never ending summer. The final word here is “No More Love To Follow” featuring the vocal talents of Matthew Morris, a slow progressing, gloomy Disco ode to the ups and downs of love.

Billy Bogus feat. Kasillen – Svengali [PN045]

Pizzico Label head Billy Bogus is back on track, this time joined by Kasillen , mysterious producer and sound designer who comes from a hip hop and black music background, and is behind Italian pop projects. Bogus & Kasillen come up with two original tracks with the consistent help of a MPC 1000, blending old Italian horror soundtracks with dubby/cheesy analog sounds so to convey the sense of discomfort you feel while watching a thrilling Italian b-movie, but in a clubby way. The final punch comes from the acid psychedelia of a different version of the same track by In Flagranti and the 80’s space-like vibe of homeboy Ma Spaventi.

Pellegrino – Periplo [EAS011]

‘Periplo’ marks the solo debut of Early Sounds Recordings co-founder Pellegrino S. Snichelotto, following occasional contributions to other material from the label’s extended family of artists. Pellegrino goes for a periplus around Mediterranean savors, dispensing a multi-flavored cocktail of fast-moving disco groovers, spacey jazz-fusion experiments and sun-bleached funky melters. Stylistically, most of the tracks sit somewhere between jazz-funk, cosmic funk, and the kind of melodious Afro-Cosmic fare that was once a staple of Northern Italy’s eccentric club scene. There’s plenty of hazy musical humidity to enoy, too, with the impeccable “Ad Libitum” standing out.

Sordid Sound System – Lux Exterior [INVINC008]

The record begins with the motorik hypno drama of The Baron, followed by the post punk dub psych of Scratch and then the sprawling widescreen Technicolor of the title track. The B-side opens on the floor of a cosmic discotheque with Der Mond and then works its way through the minimalist -voodoo swamp funk of I Walk On Splintered Gilders before closing with the unhinged synth dancehall styling’s of Keep Your Head.

Gemini Brothers – Lost Babylon [NIGHTNOISE001]

Debut release from Amsterdam based label, Night Noise. The original from Romanians Gemini Brothers is an Eastern flavored, chugging slo mo cut. In Flagranti ups the tempo and adds a darker disco edge, Moscoman offers a slower dystopian version flavored with analog synths, and Daniel Kyo turns in a darkly spartan Italo-esque remix.

DJ Bert & Eagle – Import [MMI001]

‘DJ Bert & Eagle – Import’ came out of the blue and disappeared right back into the depths of the universe. Originally composed to hit the Top 50 charts, it completely failed to do so – luckily! With this 12 inch Maxi single release the vocal drum edit of spAceLex will finally see the light of day and be available for your personal DJ experience. Remixed by Alessandro Adriani, the additional dub remix has an Industrial, Wave-like touch to it and invites to a seven minutes mind-bending trip.

Macdonald Flak & The Ack Ack Pack – The Cortina Kidz [MR014]

MACDONALD FLAK & THE ACK ACK PACK - The Cortina Kidz

Mr.intl have unearthed a lost gem. ‘Cortina Kidz’ is an utterly overlooked part of the tapestry of late 80’s British acid house history. Recorded in a cold water flat on Stoke Newington Road in 1987 and then released as a B-side in 1988, its eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. This is a unique recording whose time has come. That was until Mr.Intl, Andy Butler’s record label, made a chance discovery in 2015. It was a track so good that they pledged to resurrect it with interpretations from Factory Floor and NYC cohorts Juan Maclean & Tim Sweeney.

Martin Heimann – Salto [CO008]

Frankfurt based producer, DJ and music lover Martin Heimann presents his debut single Salto’ on Carry On 008. Remaining faithful to its name, the small label puts out another piece of limited wax every once in a long while. Enrooted in the soundscapes of 80s proto house the original version of Salto’ is a thriving piece of octave liberation. Consistent changes between harmonics break up the repetitive structure, while FM pads and the 303 are performing a little duet. The release is ennobled by two proper remixes from Moon B (Peoples Potential Unlimited) and Jex Opolis (Good Timin’). While Moon B keeps it bubblin’ with some extra analogue funk bounce and subtle Italo dance floor energy, the B-Side is Jexi-fied with some embellishment to the cords, change in the bassline and a nice 808 snap. On top Mr. Opolis adds some mysterious but cheesy vocals samples that match perfect with the moody 80s orchestral stabs.

Faze Action – Mangwana [FAR029]

Faze Action return with a brand new 12”, teaming up with Zimbabwean born Zeke Manyika to create ”Mangwana”. Sung in Zeke’s native Shona, and taking influences from Mory Kante, South African Kwaito to early house, Faze Action manage to create a record that harks back yet still has a modern and contemporary feel and is set to be the soundtrack to countless festivals and outdoor parties this summer. The title track is followed by the stunning ”Chiiko”, featuring Zeke’s vocals enriched by Rob’s ‘cello’s with African rhythms floating you away to another tropical world. A Vision of Panorama turns up the dial with a stunning mix on the flip side. A new bass line adds to some quality keyboard work. Finally the brothers deliver are more stripped out dub ”Paradise ’89 Mix” tailored for the peak time.
