Rick Wilhite – Vibes 2 [RHM010CD]

As a DJ and promoter Rick Wilhite has been holding it down for over twenty years. His ‘Vibes New & Rare music’ record store has been a main source for soulful electronic music in Detroit until its closure a few years back. The ‘Vibes New & Rare music’ compilation only features material that Rick Wilhite truly believes to represent the artists. After releasing Volume 1 in 2010, Wilhite now delivers the sequel, featuring pioneers and new talents alike from New York, Chicago and Detroit.

VA – Datafunk v1.0 [AFSLP001]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS503667-01A-MED.jpg

Adventurous electro project featuring a what might be regarded as a who’s-who in the current electro scene, reeling-in names such as DJ Stingray, DMX Krew, Ian Martin, Shemale, Elec Pt.1; with perhaps lesser known talents such as Linear Synthesis, Federico Leocata, Koova and Das Muster. A fine selection of tracks which successfully presents fresh sounds by tried-and-tested names, while simultaneously introducing upcoming and arguably lesser known, but by no means any less talented artists.

Factory Aire – B.O.Y. [SHK006]

Shaddock’s sixth outing features the young talented L.A. based artist Jeremy Berman aka Factory Aire, including remixes by two longtime companions DJ Stingray and Atom™ as well as the ominous Auxon.nThe original title – B.O.Y is an epic-futuristic track, rich in complexity and varied melodic levels subtley playing with heavy, stomping beats. DJ Stingray delivers a stunning rework with his unique, fast paced blend blurring the borders between Jungle, Electro and Bass Music while Atom™, returns to his old Acid House heights dropping a 120 bpm house killer. Auxon’s high-energy rerub puts a more modern touch to this disco-spacey crusade adding some vital sparks of trance.

Urban Tribe – Program 1 – 12 [MM025LP]

Not much really needs to be said about a new release on Mahogani Music, especially since it involves contributions from some of Detroit’s greats, including Kenny Dixon Jr, Anthony Shakir, Carl Craig, and last but not least, the main man Sherard Ingram aka DJ Stingray. It’s a single LP which contains twelve tracks – a couple of shorter skits, but most pretty much full tracks. Now maybe time to state the obvious… this won’t hang around long!
