Radio-Logg – Sports/Tools [WEME313.17]

Stian Gjevik (EOD,CN), passionate and curious about electronic music, found in a Trondheim thrift store a tape of the norwegian legendary project : the educational music “Sports/Tools”. He contacted one of the two composers called Dildrian Schrodinger. He has managed to negociate with him a deal for a vinyl license with WeMe records. We can find in this project ordered by the norwegian state all an experimentation work with electronic machines from the 1980’s. It is sometimes accompanied by a clumsy singing quite modern at that time.

Richard H Kirk – Never Lose Your Shadow [MW055]

Cabaret Voltaire member Richard H. Kirk with an experimental electronic release including the great dancefloor track ”Never Lose Your Shadow.” On the EP, there’s tracks originally recorded between 1978 and 1987, which have never before been released on vinyl. The title track, Never Lose Your Shadow blurs the lines between harsh industrial, dance floor, and no wave. The other three tracks are more experimental and reference ideas Kirk was exploring in Cabaret Voltaire at the time.

CWS – Untitled [STRUMENTS004]

CWS - Untitled

CWS (pronounced ”Classicworks”) is the new brainchild of Cardopusher and Nehuen, and their debut release for Barcelona imprint Struments Records presenting their first explosive statement as a formulated duo. ”Untitled EP” sees them experiment with new forms of production and creation. These four tracks of raw, analogue fetishized techno draw you out of this world and into an acid drenched bunker in outer space, with rhythms and synthesis drawn exclusively from analog gear. The A side showcases two very blunted electronic jams – beginning with the overdriven synth and drum layers of ”Untitled 01”, and rounding off with the tape saturated, funky yet introspective electro jam of ”I”. The B Side sees things set off into hypergear; ‘Untitled 02’ ignites the dancefloor with its relentless kick and hard, acid-inspired bassline. The EP is topped off beautifully with a remix by Rephlex Records electro superhero and Breakin Records boss DMX Krew, flipping the forward drive of ‘Untitled02’ into a staccato old skool electro breakdance, drenched in sinister pads and block-rattling orchestra stabs. An absolute essential for the DJ crates worldwide.

Light Sounds Dark – Light Sounds Dark [LSD013]

Blimey, Light Sounds Dark really went to town on this new compilation of curios, obscurities and delights that’s spread across three 12″s. If you’ve indulged in previous slabs of LSD curated obscurity then you should have an idea of what is waiting for you within the rather tempting mirrored, triple-gatefold sleeve; namely a smorgasbord of industrial, proto rhythms and early wave sounds. Unlike previous Light Sounds Dark transmissions, there is no identifying information of any sort.

impLOG – Holland Tunnel Dive [DE074]

impLOG was the solo project of Don Christensen after leaving New York No Wave group The Contortions in 1979. He began making music using found sounds, a Univox drum machine, guitar stomp boxes, Casio keyboards and percussion instruments. Holland Tunnel Dive is a monotone lament, with a narrator reciting a list of all that is missing in his life along to a sparse, mechanical beat. A variable speed Milwaukee drill creeps its way into the song, eventually reaching cacophonous levels. After four minutes of industrial motorik, an upbeat saxophone riff breaks out unexpectedly, unsettling the listener even further. On the B-side is a deranged version of the Lieber and Stoller show tune On Broadway, featuring lead guitar by Jody Harris of the Contortions. The record perfectly captures the dark and seedy vibe of downtown New York in the early 80’s.

Versalife – Collision With The Past I [FR029]

Sometimes people from different environmental backgrounds cross paths with one another through similar interests, and they notice that they have more in common then a certain taste in music alone. Boris Bunnik (aka Conforce) is hailing from the small scenic Dutch island Terschelling, that can be seen as the complete opposite environmental background as the dirty streets of Rotterdams South Side that drew the first guidelines for Frustrated Funk’s watchword: Mad Drama From Everyday Life. Although the background is opposite, the drama and struggle of daily life seem to have more similarities then one would expect. Struggling creative minds searching for correct paths, fighting to keep focused with daily routines, burning ships, moving forward, trying to bend negativity into something positive, writing music as an outlet for their compulsive need to create. This is our game. No hits, no hype, no bullshit, just the real deal, bringing timeless techno from the heart that will always stay untouched. So here’s FR029, experimental techno from the young master mind thats Versalife.

Volkan Akaalp – Baskin OST [GD006]

Giallo Disco journeys further east with the release of Baskin. Our first original soundtrack written by Turkish composer Volkan Akaalp for the short film by enfant terrible Can Evranol (To My Mother And Father). Baskin tells the story of four cops discovering a nightmare of Lovecraftian proportions during a routine investigation. This incredible soundtrack is an eastern twist on the works of Fabio Frizzi, industrially corroded by early 90s R&S Records. Shot independently in Istanbul, Turkey, during the height of the Gezi riots Baskin has been described as ”Disgusting. Disorienting. Brilliant” by Horror director Eli Roth. Comes with a full colour sleeve and two exclusive remixes on the b-side by Giallo Disco heads Vercetti Technicolor and Antoni Maiovvi.
