Charles Cohen – Brother I Prove You Wrong [DOSER026]

Composer, improviser, and Buchla Music Easel master Charles Cohen returns to Morphine with a suite of new material. In keeping with the timbre spectrum of his semi-modular system, Brother I Prove You Wrong is built around pointillist analog tones—Cohen’s cosmic “beeps and boops”—that swarm and scatter in mesmeric patterns across four sides. Moving through surrealistic textural overlays and industrial miasma, the album’s nine tracks reveal a more introspective and personal side of the artist, following from a retrospective LP trilogy released via Morphine in 2013. Those assembled works, dating back to the late ’70s, quickly became essential listening and brought Cohen—at the time largely unknown outside Philadelphia’s experimental circuit—to critical renown.

Jahiliyya Fields – Chance Life Moon Dance [LIES060LP]

Brooklyn-based experimentalist Jahiliyya Fields presents his second album on L.I.E.S. On Chance Life, Jahiliyya Fields changes track a little with the 11 tracks a tad closer to the dancefloor. While there are still out-there moments (including a bizarre spoken word cut), for the most part the album pairs his throbbing synthesizers and crusty electronics with dense techno grooves, psychedelic tribal rhythms and humid box jams.

33.10.3402 – Mecanica III [ESP016C]

33 10 3402 - Mecanica III

33-10-3402, also known as Serbian-born artist/producer Nenad Markovic, returns to the ESP Institute for the fourth and final release in his opium den and whorehouse inspired Mecanica series. ‘Slow Port’ is a cacophonous track, skillfully composed of an erratic barrage of percussive klinks and klanks as you might find in an automotive factory—pistons, gears, quips, cranks, but despite its industrial instrumentation, Nenad manages to extract a beautifully seductive quality from this beast. On Side B we’re faced with the slightly more musical ‘Plutonium Certainly’, an exercise in distortion which is punctuated by repetitive androgynous chanting, and finally we culminate and release simultaneously with ‘Elika’, an overtly ethereal blur somewhere between hope and melancholy.

Traxx – Nation Podcast #23

Traxx – Formulated-Unconventional Theories

“Nowadays, artists are afraid of diverting from a well-known stylistic path which seems the style dictates the track, not the maker.

Traxx is a totally different story.

although a lot of people appreciate it, most don’t understand Traxx’ approach to music as its been labelled diverse and eclectic which shows how significant it is for him to follow the innovative footsteps of his heroes.

in this distinctive podcast he provides a dramatic euphoric high energy, that opens gates to an esoteric and unpredictable sound beyond boundaries endlessly exploring unruled electronics of unrestricted, under the table music with no boundaries pushing the vision forward+expanding into the modern day of his interpretation.”

Helena Hauff – Lex Tertia [WDNT013]

Helena Hauff returning to Actress’ Werkdiscs with a 5-track EP. In the producer’s own words: “Lex Tertia is a further exploration into the idea of grimy, sonically crushed, dysfunctional, insane stuff that kicks on where Actio Reactio left off.”

Maoupa Mazzocchetti – A-Morality [UP001]

“Given the positive reception that led Maoupa Mazzocchetti’s debut EP for Unknown Precept, we have decided to put on tape some of the tracks that were not released on his vinyl. Call it what you will, this vicious industrial terror for when the dance-floor turns ugly sees Maoupa going a little further in the experimentation, giving sex-appeal to discomfort through these four oxidized cuts.”

Skanfrom – Postcards [SUCTION028]

Skanfrom is Roger Semsroth, best known for his purist minimal techno project Sleeparchive. Skanfrom first appeared in the late-90s, releasing limited edition 7”s on his own A.D.S.R. label, part of a small movement of DIY labels influenced by the melodic, experimental electronica output of labels like Rephlex, Skam, and Warp. Skanfrom found a likeminded home in Suction Records, who were releasing records by Solvent and Lowfish with many of the same musical references. In 2002, Skanfrom released his debut album on Suction Records, ‘Hand Picked Fragments.’ A lot has changed since 2002, but in Skanfrom world, 2014 is very much the same. ‘Postcards’ is full of the same pure and melodic electro(pop) that made Skanfrom so special from the start.

Herva – Instant Broadcast [DSR/E4]

Returning to Delsin after 2013’s What I Feel EP, Italian producer Herva aka  Herve Atse Corti is now serving up a double EP offering, Instant Broadcast.  Instant Broadcast, the 12 tracks to be released on 2 x vinyl, proves that in spades, combing as it does intricate electronic stylings with an off kilter sampling style, organic instrumentals and plenty of rough hewn charm. The album kicks off with ‘And The Crunch Goes On’, a fractured, sample heavy track with sensuous piano notes floating above barrelling techno drums. It evolves through many different forms across its 6-minute duration and from there the kaleidoscopic journey really begins. ‘Slam The Laptop’ is deep and lo fi techno, ‘Pitch Business’ is glistening IDM and ’01 (Edit)’ is scuzzy dystopian ambiance of the sort LIES has become famous for. Elsewhere there is blissful and heavenly ambiance, sketchy sound collages that put dusty old soul vocals next to trilling melodies and pounding broken beat that is awash with spring like rays of sunshine. Sometimes dark, sometimes beautiful, but always unpredictable, Instant Broadcast is a refreshingly original, sketchy album that shuns the usual Chicago and Detroit reference points and instead conjures up a truly idiosyncratic style that puts Herva in a class of his own.

Pye Corner Audio / Not Waving – Intercepts [ELP006LP]

Intercepts is a split album between Pye Corner Audio and Not Waving. Drawing inspiration from the shadowy world of espionage both producers embark on a voyage of forward thinking yet backwards compatible, cosmic tinged, techno excursions. Pye Corner Audio leads off with ‘Perfect Secrecy Forever’, centering on a progressive, doddering synth pattern paired against muted thuds whereas Not Waving opts for something a little more direct with ‘Protecting The Revolution’ oozing with dark, italo disco vibes owing to it’s dominating, feral arpeggio. The clandestine spirits permeate these eight tracks of dreamlike industrial techno, impressionist synth burbles, fragmented post-modern ambient and cosmic sci-fi adventure.

F. Mavelli – Special Brigade [B4003]

The Special Brigade – one of Legowelt’s best fictitious classic-italian-late-’70’s-police-horror-cult-movie electronic techno music soundscape. Florenza Mavelli’s Special Brigade soundtrack (aka Uomini Brigata Specialle) an obscure italian tv-series tells the story of an elite special government police unit formed to counter terrorism and organized crime. It first surfaced on the legendary CBS blog late 2007, only to fade into obscurity again after the old CBS’s foreclosure. In 2009 it was remastered from vintage reel to reel tape and released on Danny’s Strange Life label on a CD album. Now Bunker brings it back! It’s great to taste six of those dramatic cuts on vinyl finally.

Alessandro Parisi / Adamennon – Il Plenilunio Del Fuoco [FLR009]

“We were lured by the call of the Naught. We bring royal blood to purify the land with the consecration of ancient sages. In the name of the sacred all-glorious crusade, moved by psychokinetic power, we brutally kill as the heavenly dew falls on the battlefield.
We are the fire’s moonlight warriors and this is our holy war.”

Sons Of Melancholia – Beauty Is Imperfection [20DIAM]

A new artist in the Diametric roster is delivering his debut album as Sons of Melancholia. Being a long time contributing artist in the techno scene, David Nizet, better known as Ozka, has put his heart and soul into this album. It is an album of sheer beauty and pure emotions and will enchant you with its honesty and rawness in places. The music is a mixture of harsh metallic percussive elements, abrasive sounds and breathtaking moody strings and pads. The clash of these elements makes this album so special and we at diametric. HQ believe that this will indeed become a classic electronic music album. For fans of early Autechre and 90s IDM music such as Beaumont Hannant, Stasis, Likemind and B12 but also with a nod to nowadays artists such as Vatican Shadow for example.
