Sneaker – Java / Sumatra EP [UV016]

Sneaker’s first solo EP for Uncanny Valley is a record of high humidity. The Java / Sumatra EP evolved in large parts in Indonesia when Sneaker lived there for almost a year and it literally conveys the Indonesian heat to dance floors in the rest of the world. This four new tracks show another, rather dark, Pop and New Wave side of Sneaker. The “Java Island” side starts with “White Glow” where a serious percussion workout is blended together with the sharp electric guitar by Indonesian guitarist Al Goz. Backed up by Sneaker’s typical drum work, Slovakian singer Helena and Sneaker himself are dreaming of that mystical light. In “Misty Mirror”, it seems like Sneaker is speaking to his reflection in the mirror and trying to figure out what he is seeing there. The track is as relentless as it is bittersweet with its stumbling dark bass synth and the bell-like melody before the pads bring things to an almost orchestral end. “Sumatra Rain” again features Al Goz, this time on the Bamboo Flute, Guitar and with a poem in West-Sumatran Minang Language. The track can be read as a meditation on the fact that if it rains in Indonesia, it pours. At the same time it is an irresistible dance floor killer that sometimes feels like “I Feel Love” for modern clubs with its ongoing octave bass and an uncompromising kick drum. Eventually, “Run To You” stands in the tradition of love song duets like “Je T’aime…Moi Non Plus”. You simply cannot forget this catchy synth melody. This is pop music for people that like Italo Disco and Chicago House and rounds up the EP in a charming way.

DJ Sprinkles – Where Dancefloors Stand Still [MM158]

Who knows better about revealing emotions on the dancefloor then Terre Thaemlitz worldwide known writer, public speaker, multimedia producer, dj, audio producer, and head honcho of Comatonse Recordings. His deep house alias DJ Sprinkles began life in the gay clubs of midtown Manhattan and New Jersey in the late eigthies and early nineties a time when deep house began to take air. The mix grooves with DJ Sprinkles’ trippy mixing signature that playfully melts tracks who are built of flying piano notes, arresting tactile basslines, straight kicking drums, and magnetic layered samples. a deeply cathartic piece of a DJ mix that transforms dancing into a ritual in which dancers do rhythmic body painting that amalgamtes the indivual identity into a collective.

Apersonal Music introduces a very special collaboration between Massimiliano Pagliara and Jules Etienne that goes by the name of Egyptian Nipples. The songs on “Back but Half EP” were originally composed and produced by Jules Etienne. Massi then proposed Jules to re-work them and add his additional production. The result is an ode to 80s inspired song writing, analogue grittiness and heavenly melodies.

Erdbeerschnitzel – Cushion EP [DSRH006]

Cushion EP

German producer Erdbeerschnitzel aka Tim Keiling is the next to get the nod for the house focused Delsin series with a new three track EP, ‘Cushion’. The title track is a blissful, sunny day affair with raw, loose drums, trilling harmonies and a light fingered percussive touch that simply fills you with joy. Next track ‘Am Bossele’ is a more dense affair with layered samples of voices and off kilter percussion never really settling, instead they prickle and bustle in all directions and make for a lively listen. Final track ‘Crossroads’ is a nine-minute workout that eventually makes way for a fizzing, slowed tempo melange of wiry synthesiser lines and clusters of wooden sounding percussion. The textures are both organic and synthetic and the counter between the two is what stands the track apart. An all important human touch comes from the mired vocal sample and once again proves Erdbeerschnitzel to be someone with a very unique voice.

Debut release from Tom Bugs on FXHE Records. Bugs is the man behind the BugBrand modular synthesizer company in the UK. His hand built electronics have become a staple in many studios including that of FXHE label head Omar-S. “Living Leaving” is a peak into the creative mind of Bugs- two extended tracks that wander amongst the outer boundaries of techno, experimental, and ambient electronic music.

R-Zone – R-Zone 02 [RZONE002]

R-Zone is a new label launched by Global Darkness. Who is involved isn’t exactly a secret, those who feel so inclined can piece the information together quite easily. It is however irrelevant to the concept of R-Zone, which would like to shift the focus away from namedropping and perception based on hype around individual artists and bring it back where it belongs; in the lap of the music.

VA – Network EP [ANDERTRAXX002]

http://images.junostatic.com/300/CS485061-01A-MED.jpg

Ander-Traxx is back with more supremely crafted tracks from label head Alex-Ander. This E.P definitely has a strong low-end swing to it, and there’s a subtle rawness gathering in the heart of all the productions here. This is probably best exemplified in the tough soul of Borrowed Identity’s “Reflection”: reminiscent of some of the less aggressive U.R cuts of the past. In fact, all the original tracks presented here have that elusive touch, one that is actually rather hard to convey in writing. “Broken Tape” by Alex-Ander is a leisure-pace stomper worthy of the Fit catalogue, that gives us one of the most syrupy basslines we’ve heard around these parts in a while Slowburn’s “Dermopad” brings abstract elements to a righteous groove: well-implemented Chicago/Detroit influences, unafraid to introduce new sound palettes to a heavily aped style. For remix duties, main man Meschi returns after his appearance on Ander-Traxx 001, putting his solid sound signature on “Broken Tape”, showing us once again his deft talent for structure and ability to tickle the ivories.

Phon.o – Schn33 / Go [50WEAPONS027]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS481543-01A-MED.jpg

Genre bender Phon.o finds new perfection in merging UK bass music with techno, garage and even house music. Not in a wild mash-up kind of way, but very organic and natural sounding. ‘Schn33’ is a guaranteed floor filler for all kinds of dance music Djs. No matter where, no matter when, no matter what mixed with, this is an anthem! Perfectly supplemented with a strong B-Side, this might be the strongest Phon.o single yet.
