G-Machine – Primo Contatto [BAP044]

Turning back the clock, before fast forwarding it, comes Giovanni Damico as G-Machine. A new virtuoso of space boogie. Buckle up, destination: Primo Contatto. Across eight tracks the Italian astronaut traverses the sounds of the cosmos. Warbling reverberations introduce “Flying Objects”, with thick bands of synthesizer throbbing in its veins. The ultra slick “Contact” follows. Electrofunk bars float beneath stratospheric synth. Styles co-mingle. Patrick Cowley melts with Afrika Bambaataa. Disco Magic meets Tommy Boy. An overarching groove permeates the album, a heady funk that courses through tracks like “Body on the Ground” and “Transmission”. The moon based mirrorball sounds flex and flow, “It’s A Shame” cutting floors with sleek vocoders and addictive analogue riches. If you’re waiting for re-entry think again, there is no return ticket. G-Machine will only be taking passengers further and further on his cosmic odyssey with tracks like “In My Arms” and “Boogie Down”. Buck Rogers in the 25th century breakdowns and rollerskate goodness from needle drop to the run-out.

Wish Key – Orient Express / Last Summer [DE95]

Wish Key was an Italo Disco duo of Manlio Cangelli and Lorella Ghilardi in Milan. Their first single “Orient Express” was released in 1983 by Discomagic Records. It begins with a rolling baseline, bright synthesizer stabs, and a sampled train siren. The double-tracked male/female vocals compliment each other perfectly, heightening the dramatic tension. On the flip is “Last Summer”, a slower paced affair with Silvia recalling a dream of lying on the beach and having a good time.

My Rules – Closer / Dig Dag [MR003]

The My Rules imprint was set-up by prolific re-editor Justin VanDerVolgen as an outlet for his wares, whilst retaining an element of mystery. This occasional NYC outlet has unearthed two more hidden gems and rewired them perfectly for modern dancefloor destruction. ‘Closer’ is the pure, distilled essence of the Disco strut, powered up and laid out over an unrelenting, insistent groove. ‘Dig Dag’ keeps the energy levels high with a pulsing, sci-fi, Euro Disco extravaganza.

Ma Spaventi – Viaggi [PN043]

SPAVENTI, Ma - Viaggi

Released by Pizzico for the first time in 2009 with the moniker “Erre”, Marco Antonio Spaventi was one of the most pleasant surprises about what an excellent techno producer can do with his beloved background: Italo disco. Influenced by soundtrack masters as Vangelis, John Carpenter and most of all Italian maestro’s like Nico Fidenco, Pino Donaggio, Francesco De Masi, and appearing in the sky like a laser beam in a post-atomic Bronx filmed by Enzo G. Castellari, the positive first album of MA Spaventi called “Viaggi” is landing. A real journey into obscure worlds, dirty streets, atomic sunsets, broken hearts and analog feelings, a blessing for your most romantic and cinematic essence. Could this folding full length fit the modern dance floors? Maybe It could be better for the outcast clubs of a near future: synths atmosphere are sweet and pressing at the same time, the melodies and beats fit together in a succession of deep emotions, the “tape” sounds old school and totally irresistible. Pizzico is proud to present MA Spaventi’s VIAGGI: nine exclusive tracks for a brand new album, invoking and evoking dusty Italo vibes, analog synths and written soundtracks for unwritten movies.

Katia – Io Senza Di Te [KATIA001]

KATIA - Io Senza Di Te

First introduced to the modern italo-disco universe by Flemming Dalum in 2011, the rare-beyond-rare original 7″ by Katia remains a holy grail for all but the most obsessive and/or bankrolled collectors. Mothball Record present this official and absolutely faithful repress, with painstakingly restored audio and sleeve by Hysteric and his crack team of italo specialists. The song itself was the final interpretation of “Mistery Woman”, a theme returned to several times by the authors Lupo and De Peppo. However this one is really set apart by the unique and unforgettable vocal performance by Katia, aged just 17 at the time of this record. As well as the original Vocal and Instrumental versions, a new extended edit has been made by Hysteric for contemporary DJs wishing to keep the flame burning a little longer.
