Helena Hauff – Kern Vol. 5: Exclusives & Rarities [KERN005LP]

Switching within digital binaries, analogue flux, and all forms of degradation in between, a creature is kickstarted to life, as if awoken with locomotion’s full might. Helena Hauff delivers a mix for Tresor’s Kern series, lashing together a sound world with a potent barrage of industrial dance music. Helena Hauff and Morah, Umwelt, Machino, Galaxian and L.F.T. all contribute with five previously unreleased tracks, exclusive to the compilation. Rare titles are also featured, such as the late Curley Schoop’s “Mayhem” under the name Esoterik, “City Of Boom” by DJ Godfather & DJ Starski, Nasenbluten’s “Intellectual Killer“ and “After Dark” produced collaboratively by Andrea Parker and David Morley.

MDVD – Re-Dscvrd [OT002]

Optimo Trax is an offshoot label of Optimo Music for tracks aimed at DJs/dancefloors. These four tracks sound as great today as when they were made, over 20 years ago by Dutch techno veteran Maarten Van Der Vleuten, who should be a far more well-known name than he is, as he’s responsible for oodles of marvellous 12” singles.

VA – Spargel Trax Vol. 4 [SPARG004]

Following the success of last year’s first two editions, Don’t Be Afraid return for Record Store Day 2013 with a third and fourth 12” combination of Spargel Trax releases, celebrating the dual themes of great seasonal music and great seasonal Spargel. The contribution of tracks from certain bona fide legends who appear under the now familiar spargel-related pseudonyms as well as some incredibly talented new comers meant that it was impossible to pass up the chance of working on a third and fourth volume. On this release we have tracks from 48v Spargel Brothers, Club Paranoia, Slazenger’s People and Freeman.

Maarten van der Vleuten – Internaut EP [SHIP019]

Maarten van der Vleuten, one of the godfathers of Dutch Techno and a true electronic music pioneer, on Shipwrec serves up his own recipe for Electro in the form of the ‘Internaut EP’. The title piece takes the rhythmic mould of the 808 but shifts the floorboards with industrial soundscapes and UK Techno sidesteps framing. A morphing and melting piece of otherworldly Electronics, over ten minutes of shifting synthsizer sands. “Holographic Inserts” lands with terse clips and pulsing basslines before a rumbling analogue chord breaks the surface. Warbling bulwarks of space meet clinical lines in an immense track of expansive proportions. An epic of atmospheric, sinister and sharp sounds; a style pushing the boundaries of Electro.
