VA – Adventures In Techno Soul 3 [FERLP009]

The original Adventures in Techno Soul compilation was released back in 1996 with remixes of Ferox tracks from the likes of Derrick Carter, Carl Craig and Kenny Dixon Jr. A full 16 year’s after its follow up “Further Adventures in Techno Soul” comes this 8 track album of new and unreleased material on double vinyl from 8 different and exciting artists. Ferox is proud to welcome established and respected producers such as Fred P and Germany’s Move D to the roster, as well as a welcome return from Affie Yusuf, Nebraska and Bush Funk (Steve O’Sullivan and Winlord X) who were last seen on Soma Records back in 1996. The label is also proud to introduce two new artists, Darren Harris and Spain’s Hoax Believers who alongside label boss Russ Gabriel round off this package of soulful electronica.

Zsa Gang – Beehive Rhythms EP [OMR003]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS523789-01A-MED.jpg

Entitled Beehive Rhythms, the four-track EP is the debut of Zsa Gang, a collaborative project between Jordan Czamanski and Future Times co-head Max D. Taking a similarly live and freewheeling approach to Czamanski’s sometimes psychedelic work as part of Juju & Jordash and Magic Mountain High, the raw hardware sounds nevertheless seem to have some of the stripped back dancefloor focus and thumping rhythms of Max D’s Dolo Percussion project.

Move D – The KM20 Tapes (1992 -1996) [OMRKM201]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS503847-01A-MED.jpg

Having launched Off Minor Recordings with some of his own refined solo material under the Cry Baby J moniker, Jordan Czamanski adopts a more archival tone for the label’s second release, digging into the unreleased early nineties works of Move D. Recorded at his KM20 Studio in hometown Heidelberg (hence the name) The KM20 Tapes feel all too appropriate for contemporary analysis, drawing on a smudged and improvised approach to analogue electronics. The rugged drawn out acid of “Ovi Riese” in particular bangs the box in a degraded manner that is most pleasing. Excitingly, this is the first of an irregular series of archival material from Moufang on Off Minor with Czamanski apparently sitting on a tonne of tracks.

Gerd Janson – Music For Autobahns [RH125]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS475372-01A-MED.jpg

Gerd Janson compiles an exciting ambient-not-ambient compilation that includes exclusive tracks by Âme, Move D, Quiet Village Marco Passarani, Roman Flügel and Tom Trago. “Music for Autobahns” is the result of asking Gerd Janson for a collection that starts where previous efforts left off. While Computer Incarnations for World Peace (his compilations for Sonar Kollektiv) concentrated on tipsy new wave music done by jazz-funkers or neo disco-ists, Autobahns has an
unintentionally strong leaning towards ambient not-ambient, kraut pleasers and codeine house, i.e. Industrial Ambient and Electrifying New Age. It’s all new and exclusive material by people who once or twice crossed paths with the compiler. You will hear Âme with their modular slambient concept sitting next to Amsterdam’s Tom Trago off peak time duties, Roman Flügel with an old DAT tape wunderkind that shares a side with Heidelberg’s very own Move D in love, outsider dance from CF & Daywalker alias Entro Senestre and Willie Burns as well as a greasy sounding Marco Passarani and finally Tensnake’s romantic pop appeal that is a counterpoint to Maxxi & Zeus (better known as Quiet Village) and their “Passion” for all beauties that lie beyond.

Magic Mountain High – The Schnitzel Box Vol. 1 [WORKSHOPXX]

MAGIC MOUNTAIN HIGH - The Schnitzel Box Vol 1 (Front Cover)

News first surfaced over a year ago of Move D collaborating with Juju & Jordash on an analogue heavy live project entitled Magic Mountain High with the added promise of Workshop released material to follow. Several illuminating festival appearances and many months later and the Workshop label finally present The Schnitzel Box Vol 1, with three untitled productions from the trio that ensure the wait was worth it. Granted the freedom of the A Side, the opening track is allowed the time and space to incorporate both brooding analogue drone and sprawling key laden melodic glisten. Flip over and “Untitled 2” is quicker off the blocks, swiftly settling into a fizzing house jam rich in warm colour and tone and driven by crisp Roland rhythms, whilst the final arrangement is surely the most eminently danceable with yet more warm analogue patterns and Hitchcockian synth drones worming their way around a skipping techno beat.
