Morganistic – Fluids Amniotic LP [MOTELP06]

MORGANISTIC - Fluids Amniotic (remastered)

As Morganistic, Luke Slater only released a handful of cuts-but among those was the album ‘Fluids Amniotic’, still widely praised today as a benchmark techno long-player. Regularly featuring in the sets of Hood and Mills, Morganistic’s dark, rumbling minimalism was, as the album title suggests, the sonic equivalent of being trapped in the murky, viscous fluids of some sinister alien womb. Slater unearthed the original DAT and reel-to-reel tapes and got them remastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis. Fluids Amniotic will get re-issued both on vinyl and digitally for the first time in 25 years.

VA – Out of Addis [SHBLP001]

VARIOUS - Out Of Addis

Presented in collaboration with Sheba Sound, and originally released on the ‘Eastern Connections’ this compilation was Paradise Bangkok’s first foray into East African music. This album presents a selection of contemporary recordings from Ethiopia, an ancient country where incredible musical traditions have been brewing for centuries, unbeknownst to much of the Western world. The Horn of Africa nation is most often associated with the famous Ethio-Funk sounds produced during the latter years of the Imperial era, which lasted until 1974. But in this defiant culture – Ethiopia was the only African state never to be colonised by Western powers – the golden age for music never ended, despite decades of war and social upheaval. Ethiopia is home to over 80 ethnic groups, each with its own deep-rooted language and culture. Contemporary musicians living outside Addis Abeba, the capital, have little opportunity to record their mesmerizing sounds. Sheba Sound is redressing this by recording and releasing high-end audio music of local stars. So far, Sheba Sound have recorded more than 25 groups in ‘pop-up’ studios across Ethiopia.

PLACEBO - Polk

About four years after the label was founded in summer 2016, ”Matasuna Records” is about to drop its 25th release. To celebrate this anniversary, Matasuna has dug up another treat and is delighted to reissue two songs from the legendary LP ”1973” by Belgian jazz-funk group ”Placebo” of jazz legend Marc Moulin, who is rightly considered one of the rare groove Holy Grails. Both songs are available for the first time as official reissue on 7inch vinyl – the title song is even available on 45 for the first time ever.

Conrad Schnitzler – Auf dem schwarzen Kanal [BB3576]

SCHNITZLER, Conrad - Auf Dem Schwarzen Kanal

‘Auf Dem Schwarzen Kanal’ is one of the most outstanding, most sought-after releases in Conrad Schnitzler’s extensive catalog. It was the only Schnitzler record to appear on a major label and saw him flirting with the experimental new wave sound that was emerging in 1980, particularly on the title track. Nevertheless, it still managed to sound idiosyncratically unlike any other music around at the time. Recorded with Wolfgang Seidel at Peter Baumann’s Paragon Studio in Berlin, the four tracks take us on a caustic, dissonant mutant disco trip which has lost none of its fascination in the years since. Now Bureau B great reissues this long lost work.

The Deep – Silver Surfer / X O Surf [VIOLENT10]

DEEP, The - Silver Surfer

The Deep, was the alias Matt Frost and Pete Diggens recorded under from 1993-1996. Frost and Diggens released a stream of vinyl on their own imprint Violent Drum. ‘Silver Surfer’, ‘X O Surf’ and the ‘X O Surf remixes’ were created over a series of weekends in ’93. When you listen to the record you can hear Frost and Diggens try to create the sound of waves amongst the beats, they were also influenced by tracks like Pink Floyd’s 20-minute epic ‘Echoes’.

Jyl – Jyl [MW075]

Minimal Wave presents a reissue of Jyl‘s self-titled full-length album from 1984, originally released on Klaus Schulze’s Inteam label. Born and raised in California, Jyl travelled to Europe in her twenties to dance and met several talented and like-minded collaborators along the way. She ended up in Germany, and worked with Ingo Werner, Angela Werner, and Klaus Schulze, on what would become one of the most important and forward thinking electronic albums of the time. Shortly after its release, the song “Computer Love” became a mini-hit along with the album’s opening track “Mechanic Ballerina”. The lyrics of “Silicon Valley” and “Computer Generation” are reflective of the times and have become even more relevant now, 36 years later. The production and song arrangement on the album is immaculate. The synthesizers, drum programming and vocal contributions complement Jyl’s voice perfectly. The album contains an incredible depth beyond a regular dance album likely due to the spirit of the people behind it – the list of contributors add to its significance and near-mythological mystery.

Phuture – Rise From Your Grave [SR1273WHITE]

PHUTURE - Rise From Your Grave

Another classic jammer from 1992 lifted straight from the Strictly Rhythm vaults. Phuture aka acid House pioneers Spanky and DJ Pierre (with a little help from Roy Davis JR) turn in a driving, acidic monster in true Wild Pitch style. Probably the only record that begins with a sinister voice saying ‘This is cocaine speaking’ before diving head-long into one of the best anti-drug House records ever. Bubbling 303 basslines and cavernous handclaps combine with a funked out, dubbed out synth line that just doesn’t stop.
