Hermans – Lab Our 06 [LBRM006]

LAB.OUR 06 features offbeat, dancefloor techno from Hermans (Jerry Riggs ‘Dick Diamonds’ & Maxwell Church). ‘Sweat Box Rock’ is an epic stormer that sounds like a techno jam session with alternating beat patterns and dirty keys. ‘Dustin Tombtones’ is an uptempo acid workout destined to move dancefloors. B2 is a remix of ‘Sweat Box Rock’ by Lab.our Music bosses Basic Soul Unit and J-UL.

Global Goon – ILA006 [ILA006]

Number six in the I Love Acid series. Rephlex legend Global Goon features with four wonky takes on acid. A-sides ‘Caramel Door’ & ‘The Botanist’ jitter in and out of slo-mo techno & electronica. On the flip, ‘Black Wheat’ ups the tempo with a bit of disco playfulness, while closer ‘Creamy Noogies’ gets its rave on with samples of Snap’s ‘The Power’ against a rampant 303 bassline.

INIT – Two Pole Resonance [HVNLP001]

Having first joined forces last year to lend a hand of Massimo Pagliara’s collaborative With One Another full-length, Benedikt Frey and Nadia D’Alo present their debut full-length under the Init alias. It’s a thoroughly atmospheric, clandestine affair, with the duo delivering a dark-wave opus that tips a hat to early Depeche Mode, minimal wave, Detroit techno and the ambient soundscapes of Brian Eno. D’Alo provides the vocals, though for much of the time they’re utilized as textures, rather than the central focus of the duo’s shuffling, slowly evolving synth-scapes. As an album, Two Pole Resonance is initially attractive – albeit in a stylized, late night kind of way – but really comes into its’ own after repeat listens. It is, though, definitely worth the effort.

5X0D – 5X0D [DOM008M]

5X0D has always been Mark Phillips and Rob Lawrence since it began in 1981 in Bristol UK. Early influences were many going back to pop, prog and krautrock bands of the early 70s, through punk and new wave to industrial, then later Japanese technopop like YMO.

VA – Ixtab Compilation Series Vol.1 [MF095]

First in a series of compilations from Monofonus Press is this lovely 4 song 12″ EP. Opening track “Molecular Psychology” by Interbrain, duo of Willie Burns and Alessandro Adriani is a 14- minute Electro-Kraut caliche stomper to keep the mosquitoes riled up around the sweat-drenched masses. The Stockholm duo Empfänger swarm in with throbbing kick drums, buzzing bass sequences and some meth-crazed psychopath vocals on their Acid Techno track “Charles.” Side B opens up with the Cosmic Disco track “Tsch” by Welsh producer Samoln. Closing the record is the epic “The Terrible Comet Salt” by Idea Fire Company & BRRR, which has a peculiar narrative over a haunting low key composition.

Mr.G – Night On The Town? [PGSEXLP1]

The G man returns to his Phoenix G home with a somewhat special album release. Where the usual Mr.G sound is still present on this LP, ‘Night On The Town’ showcases G’s more adventurous works and exposes some of his more exotic influences. African Rhythm sections, hints to EBM and low tempo chugs make this album very actual yet unique.

Kai Alce – Sunday Transit [POEM001]

Detroit house hero Kai Alce inaugurates People Of Earth with a stellar EP showcasing his knack for the most soulful of modern, Motor City deep house. First up “Quiet Revenge” has that classic Three Chairs kind of vibe; all soulful deepness that this circle and their extended cast of peers have the knack for, complete with smooth Rhodes piano and dusty rhythms. On the flip “Sunday Transit” is a more straight up deep house jam with female vocals shouting out the lowdown loud and clear; wicked groove on this one. The dub version of this surpasses the vocal for those less keen, but why would you.

Natan H – Lignes EP [FS029]

Finale Sessions presents this release by Natan H hailing from the “City Of Angels”. The track “Lignes” with its melodic pads and its wavering synths make for a late night beauty. Track 2, “O (Phase)” is another late night stomper with moving chords and melodic drum patterns that keep it a smooth sounding piece. The dub techno song “Invariant” (Feat.Jordan) is floor filler for sure with its heavy laden pads and synths and its monstrous sounds.

Frak – Primitive Drums [LXRC024]

Frak on Lux Rec… Nordic woods are a dangerously primitive place. Fueled with madness and induced delirium Frak land on planet Lux. Three slow, acid numbers with a barbaric, crude attitude. Relentless drums. Fierce, hypnotic synthesizers that get you lost in your own mind. Suddenly sinister, disastrous images populate your consciousness. And then one last strange, twisted wave track. New places, new adventures.

Sneaker – Meet The Heat EP [ULM002]

The infamous Sneaker delivers 5 tracks of acid and ghetto house for ULM Records. Rough and dirty and material … straight down to the bone. ULM Records is run by an old guy. He loves to collect records from genres like boogie, modern soul and disco, but he also loves house, techno and acid. From time to time he’s hanging around in his home studio.

Justin Vangdervolgen – Sketch 2 [MR1002]

Since establishing the illicit My Rules imprint earlier this year, New Yorker Justin Vangdervolgen has used it to deliver a mixture of sneaky edits, hush-hush remixes and sly, sample heavy original productions. “Sketch 2” is towards the rougher end of Vandervolgen’s output, and sees the former man laying down some seriously tough, twisted beats, jagged analogue motifs, bleeping melodies and mind-altering acid lines. It sounds like the sort of sweaty machine jam that will get dancefloors in a frenzy of flailing arms and legs.

High Mobility Weapons Unit – Transverse Velocity [HMWU001]

High Mobility Weapons Unit sets off from an unknown location on Earth, making its maiden voyage beyond our solar system and towards a distant galaxy. The ‘Transverse Velocity EP’ is the debut release on the self-titled imprint, serving up four original tracks that are heavily influenced by mechanical cycles and deep space concepts.
