DMX Krew – Zsagi [ZSAGI]

After landing his malfunctioning PX-4000 on the purple planet, Captain DMX steps out of the smoldering cockpit. After barely setting foot on the dusty landscape, the Captain is startled by deep thudding from over the hills. Dragging his oxygen pack with one hand and his atomizer with the other, he sets off in search of the other-wordly din. Over the hill his pupils adjust to the stroboscopic lightning and below him lies a sea of strange creatures moving together as one body. A cosmic sermon takes place under the three suns in the sky, mechanical and stuttered frequencies set a manic pace and drive the dark creatures back and forth. Captain DMX sighs a heavy breath and starts to descend into the fray….

G-23 – Mongrando Mongrel Trax [SRTX006]

G 23 - Mongrando Mongrel Trax

Super Rhythm Trax is back with a fresh new artist G-23 who delivers 2 monstrous slabs of Mongrel Acid music. “Kidding Kids” is an ultra fresh beast of a track that sits comfortably outside classification, melding Acid with a super heavy breakbeat and peppered with UK Garage references. “Mountain’s Acid” goes for a straight up 4/4 Acid track with a deep bubbling Acid line that hooks you early and keeps you locked throughout. On the B side label boss Jerome Hill is on remix duties turning in a tracky Acid version of Mountain’s Acid with a heavy bottom end and funky percussion

Marco Bernardi – Motionless [MATH082]

Given the prolific nature of his output and close links to Jamal Moss, it’s something of a surprise to find that Motionless is Marco Bernadi’s first outing on Mathematics. It sees the Bristol-based Glaswegian in suitably nostalgic mode, dropping a quartet of tracks that pop and crackle with vintage analogue rhythms, raw electronics, and intoxicated acid lines. The A-side boasts two chunks of electro/techno fusion, with the vintage rave stabs, relentless drum hits and barely audible vocal samples of “Shiny Windows” most impressing. Flip for the skittering rave breakbeats, foreboding chords and undulating acid lines of “Finite Space”, and “Hater of Love”, a sparkling fusion of sharp electronics, bubbling acid bass and foreboding, anti-fun vocals.

Mark Verbos – Walk The Distance [BK013]

The Bunker New York presents a surprise EP from veteran techno producer Mark Verbos – a man whose discography stretches back over 20 years – fits that remit. Flitting between acid-laden psychedelic intensity (“Just A Little Late”), high-octane loop jams (“In The Back Room”) and sweaty, all-out assaults on the senses (the metallic madness that is “Start Up Drive”), it portrays Verbos as a masterful producer of no-holds-barred dancefloor techno. Interestingly, he diverts a little from the script on the EP’s final moment, “Walk The Distance”, combining sparse dub techno rhythms and ghostly electronics.

Romans – Ambulare Aude [BK012]

The Bunker New York delivers a second collaborative Romans EP from Gunnar Haslam and acid obsessive Tin Man. They go in hard from the off, blending extended analogue bass, metronomic rhythms and wiggly acid lines on “Enoma”. There’s a classic bleep feel about the ghostly chords on “Coptos”, which seemingly float above a hard-as-nails techno groove. They seem to soften a little on “Delenium”, which pairs the uplifting, end-of-night ethos of progressive house with classic Detroit techno sounds.

Black Merlin – Burn It / Experiments In The Dark [COMMONTHREAD004]

Treacle thick tech treats from Black Merlin on super-limited vinyl. Worked on an all-analogue set up, both “Burn It” and “Experiments In The Dark” take us back to the early ’90s when Black Strobe were smashing down European boundaries and Beltram was doing the same in the US. “Burn It” is the real crunchy groove-heavy cut while “Experiments In The Dark” takes us even deeper inside our own minds with an orgy of modem banter.

Tissu – Unmanned Vehicle [MORK004]

Warm, washy chords collide with bubbling, subterranean acid and crunchy drum work on this subtly epic debut from Swiss newcomer, Tissu, with his trippy delay-drenched synths giving everything an astral-aquatic quality.

Liverpool label Scenery Records continues to shine a light on local talent by next turning to Mark Forshaw for a new four track EP. Remixing is the singular Autodidakt Records boss Daniel Andréasson and once again the release showcases a gloopy, analogue heavy house and techno sounds with influences of acid and beyond.

FALLBEIL/DIE FORM/SLUGBUG - Events At The Fatal Party EP

Contort Yourself returns with “Events at the Fatal Party” which comes over more as a description than a title, brimming with a bubbling sense of tension and fear. Hamburg duo Fallbeil kick things off in impressive style with a crunchy acid monster which twists and turns followed by two killer proto-techno cuts from legendary French industrial band Die Form from their 1985 tape Hurt. Here we find ourselves in a unsettling scenario with metallic voices scowling over clanging machines and guitar feedback in an unhinged way. The mysterious Slugbug starts the flip with “Goback”, a creeping acidic beast moving unstoppably forward as a reverberating voice ripples throughout. Any calm is then shattered by IBM a.k.a. Jamal Moss whose remix of Die Form hammers home a tough seven minutes of mangled synths, bubbling acid and thundering drums.
