Hipodrome Podcast 014 – Jay Bliss

hipodrom014

Here we have a very special installment of The Hipodrome Of Music podcast series, featuring a guy that I was hunting for a long time to get it on Hipodrome. Iulian Cazan aka Jay Bliss is one of the persons and djs that had a great influence on my evolution in the electronic music, opening my mind to new musical horizons when moving to Sibiu 8 years ago.

Since then, Iuli has moved from being one of Romania’s youngest dj talents to one of the most respected Romanian producers and djs, with releases on labels like Diynamic, Hudd Traxx, Fear of Flying, All Inn and 20:20 Vision and collaborations with fellow Romania starlets Mihai Popoviciu, Petre Inspirescu and international artist like Och, Markus Homm and Skudge. Also he had shows all around Europe, from UK and Spain to Germany, Holland and Russia.

VA – Mosaic Reshaped & Unreleased [SUSH023]

A long-overdue reappraisal of Steve O’ Sullivan’s efforts as a producer is underway with this bumper release from Sushitech. Collating the myriad aliases of the Mosaic boss and drawing on some on his co-conspirators such as Mark Ambrose and Jorge Zamacona, this triple vinyl beast of a package is overflowing with high-grade house music powered with the attitude of techno. There’s a classic feel to all the tracks here as they carry the torch for Basic Channel and the original dub techno ethos, but attaching the spacious, mysterious tones to a funkier template. That possibly oversimplifies the majestic quality to this breed of techno, but then of course the devil is in the details.

DML ‎– Munique 2 [BRQ089]

https://i0.wp.com/images.junostatic.com/full/CS2180193-02A-BIG.jpg

Dirk Lamprecht aka DML lives in Munich, a fact he seems to enjoy as suggested by his new “Munique 2 EP” as well as its predecessor “Munique” (both on Broque). The local influence presents itself not so much through the music itself – though being reminiscent of the past in its own sense, DML’s down-to-earth dub and dub techno couldn’t be farther away from folkloristic traditions – but through the subtle use of field recordings which reflect the specific vibes of individual Munich districts. This has nothing to do at all with local patriotism but only shows Dirk’s curiosity for the diversity of his hometown and the individual characteristics of its different neighborhoods. His new “Munique 2″ EP features five fantastic new tracks, which continue the concept of the predecessor release and create their very own vision of traditional dub techno standards, contemporary influences and local field recordings. Classic chords of “Nymphenburg” meet deep dub techno (“Dreimühlen”, “Klonk”), marching arpeggios (“Westend”) or an almost ambient transcendence of “Oberföhring”, and develop a very original and well-deserved homage to Munich; an area which otherwise receives far less recognition within the respective circles than, for instance, Berlin Neukölln or even Cologne Porz.

The newest offering from Luke Hess’ Deeplabs imprint: Warehouse Sessions Volume 1. All four producers on duty here keep the vibe deep and unique, jacking at times while laid back and cosmic at others. Four tracks with a groove firmly rooted in early to mid-nineties Detroit warehouse techno, the results mix analog instruments and machines with a dose of atmospheric dub.

Marco Shuttle – There’s No Point… That’s The Point [EE002]

Cover art - Marco Shuttle: There's No Point... That's The Point

Second installment on Marco Shuttle’s EERIE is again a 2 tracker by himself. Sticking to the deep cinematic hypnotic signature sound that has trademarked all his work so far, the London based Italian producer delivers 2 long journeys of deep, dubby, Detroit flavoured EDM. Both tracks have a subtle progression, building up gently from an intro initial part to a more ”dramatic” core through very subtly arranged and modulated layers of sounds and subliminal melodic elements.

Seph – AM 02 [AMR002]

AM 02

The Aula Magna team proudly presents the label’s second release, a solo EP by Seph. A mind dazzling odyssey through the artist’s breaks and techno obsessions, exploring new dance realms of his sonic world. On the A side, Temporaria kicks off the record with dancefloor intensity and Reflejo grooves on a funky edge, with layers of modulated dub synths and bells. The energy doesn’t stop on side B, shifting into a more introspective feel: Navi drives forward with its warm glitchy breaks and sets the stage for the mysterious Zoom (Bi), an epic dream that deconstructs it’s melodies over a sci-fi rhythm and ghostly distorted whispers. The journey resolves with the shimmering evolving synths of the digital exclusive track Glow. We hope you enjoy the ride.
