Uku Kuut – Vision Of Estonia [PPU034]

PPU’s first long-play LP highlights some of the early beginnings of one of our favorite producers, UKU KUUT. Written and recorded at UKU’s home studio in Los Angeles and Stockholm between 1982 & 1989. Some tracks co-written with Maryn E. Coote, famous jazz vocalist who had her beginnings in 1960s Soviet Union. ”That’s my MOM” recalls UKU, ”I remember when I was little, sitting under the mixing board at her sessions”. Growing up in studios, UKU’s love of music production began early, and over the years he has amassed a vast collection of domestic and soviet electronic gear. In true PPU style this LP is a mix of UKU KUUT’s raw cassette demos, forgotten masters and unreleased magic.

Frank Booker – Fall Out EP [SBR10]

Title track ‘Fall Out’ is an irresistible uptempo peak time nugget that cleverly walks the line between moody deephouse and organic disco. Flip over for ‘Boss’, a pearl of a midtempo track with loads of oomph and drive that keeps building and building. On ‘Points’, the closing track of the EP, Frank Booker conjures up an infectious beatdown groove with a killer bassline.

DEA/ALBION/SPACELEX - Blackdisco XI (Front Cover)

Blackdisco Volume XI pushes forward into new territory (and with a new aesthetic) by welcoming a group of three deep diggers who shun musical trends and their inherent fakers. Dea, Albion & Spacelex combine their vinyl-mining efforts to unearth some real diamonds from the rough. Dea’s cut Malaka its a floater with a funky sailboat vibe, while his complimentary cut Taubat takes the tired jungle disco vibe to new level with its triumphant synth-led chorus, an absolute stunner that could be extended for 20 minutes. On the flip, Albion spoons water over the coals, steaming up the joint with an uptempo percussion bomb as if Santana had a disco secret, and Spacelex rides us out with a sexy rock groove complete with mysterious male voiceover, almost as if someone lowered the volume to whisper in your ear.

VA – Black Gloves EP [GD001]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS454213-01A-MED.jpg

Giallo Disco Records presents their first release Black Gloves EP. Between Berlin and Vienna, Giallo Disco Records is a new label dedicated to the sub-sub-genre of Horror Disco. Gianni Vercetti’s macabre soundtracks are presented with lashings of VHS grain. ‘L’Incubo Senza Fine’ is dripping with tension, a relentless kick drum thud like the march of the undead themselves. Legowelt’s remix only adds to this, calling on the sound of his most recent collection ‘The Teac Life’. Antoni Maiovvi’s Rituals Of Lust is a 98bpm dark EBM/New Beat-esque stomper. Retro-space age futurism, battleships preparing for war near the moons of Jupiter. Themroc(k)’s would perhaps be the perfect music for a malfunctioning T-800, demented vocals a-go-go. Dark brooding action soundtracks for a bleak tomorrow.

Nitetime – Jivetalk [FCL073]

Nitetime is the new production duo from Boston, USA comprised of Kon and Whisky Baron. Nitetime’s debut EP Jive Talk sits on a bridge between OG boom bap hip hop – with its tough drums and grooved up interludes – and the 4/4 rhythms of classic house and disco.

VA – RDY #8 (Ron Hardy Edits) [RDY008]

Various Artists - Ron Hardy Edits #8

Amazing 3 Ron Hardy edits straight from the basement… A1 brings ‘I Need you’ from Sylvester, more than 7 minutes of pure maddness. On A2 we get the brillant & timeless ron hardy mix of Robert Owens cult track ‘your mind’. On the B an obscure track called ‘Hardy goes acid’.

VA – Episode 1 – Messier 42 [IT001]

Tracks by Humandroid, Dark Vektor, Antoni Maiovvi & Synthesized. ‘In the interstellar medium are regions known as nebulae, they formed by gas and heavy chemical elements in the form of cosmic dust. Have a significant cosmological importance since many of these regions are where stars are born by phenomena of condensation and aggregation of matter. One of the most beautiful is M42 or Messier 42, the Orion Nebula…’

San Laurentino – Forbidden Fruit [PLAYRJC017]

It’s still relatively early days for  Lóránt Talpai aka San Laurentino, whose sensitive take on deep house is imbued with the mystique of early braindance material streets ahead of cookie-cutter pads and chords. The beats are most certainly Chicago-indebted on his EP for Robert Johnson, not least on the title track, but the atmosphere created by the intricate melodies of his synths are the real stars of the show. If you miss the soothing embrace of nineties back room ambience, then head straight for the massaging bass tones of “Rainforest Hunters” and get ready for the bliss-out.

Grand Prix – Mach 1 [SF67987]

Reissue for this super-rare space funk album from 1983, one of the holy grails of the Cosmic scene. Extremely expensive and hard-to-find in the original, this LP was created by legendary French producers Jean-Pierre Massiera and Bernard Torelli (listed here as Areisam and Bernie) and released on French label Savoir Faire. It is a superb example of the duos innovative electronic disco madness, always pushing boundaries while remaining supremely funky. Stand-outtracks are the Italo classic “Challenger” – heady synths, tough bass and astronaut vocals combine in a strange space odyssey, “Cruisin”, a superb electro-boogie style cut with a hypnotic driving bassline, and the fantastic “On The Border”, a tight funky percussive workout whipped by wild space-rock guitars.

“Cameloen Chameleon” is the follow up to the hugely successful Cocaine Blues and finds NY disco band Escort goin’ tropical with fun, sunny vibes that takes cues from Kid Creole and the Coconuts. The track rides a catchy midtempo groove with a latin/tropical twist and is chock full of catchy vocals and melodies to make the crowd move. The club mix injects some thumping 4/4 kicks and ups the tempo just enough to hit the dancefloor hard. Also includes the Club dub edit.

Twilight Ritual – Fear for Loosing You [FRV006]

TWILIGHT RITUAL - Fear For Losing You

In music, phrygian mode is dissonant, dark, depressive and gloomy. Its use was even forbidden in classical Greece for centuries because it was considered pagan. The sound of phrygian mode is rather exotic… This track was composed 30 years ago and now for the first time on vinyl. Old Belgian electronic band Twilight Ritual has authorized Frigio to re-edit an amazing song from their early 80,s album Rituals. To accompany the original version, we have an awesome remix by Sneaker (Uncanny Valley) who created a club oriented version of it.
