The Egyptian Lover – 1987 LP [DMSR-8703]

Egyptian Lover has been kicking out the jams now for a full four decades. His famously hardware-driven sound is pure bay-popping perfection and has seen him define and redefine electro many times over. Staying true to his signature 80s west-coast electro sound, his new album 1987 echos classics of his like ‘Egypt, Egypt’ and Thebes of them all, ‘I Need a Freak’, by blending signature Roland 808 beats with Kraftwerk and hip-hop influences. He’s a veteran at this stage, but he still moves a floor like few others can.

Egyptian Lover – Emotions / Dirty [DMSR87011]

Egyptian Lover is celebrating 40 years of releasing music in 2024 AMD ‘Emotions’ is the first track from his upcoming album titled 1987. It’s a classic 80s inspired west-coast electro style cut – a style that Egyptian Lover is pretty much responsible for creating, harking back to his classic material like ‘Egypt, Egypt’ and ‘I Need a Freak’, his use of the Roland 808 along with Kraftwerk and hip-hop influences making the artist synonymous with the origin of the electro sound. Also included is ‘Emotional’ which is the instrumental version of the title track. For the B-Side ‘Dirty Passionate Yell’ is featured again, along with the instrumental version (Dirty Music).

Egyptian Lover – Lose Control / Vocoder Jam [DMSR8501]

The Egyptian Lover’s 2021 album 1986 was a widely-hailed blast of electro funk perfection from a true lifer – is there anyone other than Greg Broussard you would trust to bring the heat with an 808 and not much else? Now one of the album’s standout cuts, ‘Lose Control’, is getting the single treatment with an extended mix which lets Jamie Jupiter and Brian Ellis’ bonus musical contributions to the track take off in full flight. As a bonus treat on the flip, we get the sparkling new joint ‘Vocoder Jam’, ensuring you have two sides of raw electro heat from one of the sound’s true originators.

Egyptian Lover – Freak-A-Holic [DMSR80802]

EGYPTIAN LOVER, The - Freak A Holic

It’s been 25 years since the anthem ‘Freak O Holic’ by Los Angeles electro legend Egyptian Lover was first released. His label Egyptian Empire Records serves up a repress for all the fans out there, featuring an extended version of the track, presented here as the super sleazy Alternate Universe mix on the first side, followed up on the flip with ‘2 The Extreme’ (long version) taken from the seminal album of the same year – the 1986 LP. A true pioneer, Egyptian Lover’s (real name Greg Broussard) earliest material is name checked by producers such as as Autechre and I-F as influential.

Egyptian Lover – Killin’ It [DMSR1985]

It’s 2016 and Egyptian Empire Records is still going strong over thirty years form its first 12″. It’s creator and master, Egyptian Lover, is as active now as he was on the launch of his timeless and genre-defining 1984 LP, and this new remix of “Killin’ It” shows us that the man hasn’t changed a pair of socks since the mid 1980’s – the tune is a dirty, utterly on-point electro scorcher with twisted vocals and that eerie, inimitable sound of the Nile. “Tryin To Tell Ya” is another mean-spirited, highly strung electro dominator with a powerful bassline to blow your jaw firmly out of place. A huge 12″ and one that will become rarer and rarer as the years go by, so you know what that means…
