Teasing his upcoming full-length, Credit 00 returns to Pinkman for the first time since ‘21 with a punchy single that draws inspiration from believe and despair. Future dancefloor karaoke anthem ‘Hope’ travels through time by laying 21st century autotune pop over ancient bit crushed computer beats. Watch out for the dangerously catchy hook, once it’s in your head it won’t be leaving anytime soon!

Hamburg-born and raised, Helena Hauff studied both Fine Art and Systematic Music Science. Her astonishing DJ and producing skills reflect this experience, as this juxtaposition shaped her approach to coaxing music from her machines. As a former resident of the esteemed Golden Pudel club, Helena has established herself as a selector who prefers playing vinyl, a producer who uses vintage hardware, and a virtuoso of seamlessly handling the crowd. Wherever she performs, her style is significant and recognizable—fierce, rough, and raw, yet steadfast and playful. All this is perfectly captured in Helena’s mix for the ‘fabric presents’ series. Nine tracks from Helena’s mix for fabric, cut to double vinyl by Matt Colton. The bundle includes her new single for fabric Records, ‘Turn Your Sights Inward’, as well as the exclusive ‘Alter Simus’ by Magda Rot. This is the first solo release by Sinitsin, producer, DJ and one part of the duo Formally Unknown. Six tracks of electro with a clippy and dystopian edge come amid the theme of a psyop radio transmitter; a radio tower parasitised by a giant squidlike alien with many grotesque eyes, hijacking our human broadcasts with its own alien agenda. As if to question the popular belief that such a thing has never happened before, each track is hyper-orderly and mega-sequenced, challenging the listener to give over their connotations of humanity with rhythmic imperfection. This is subliminal broadcast electro, bypassing all media and eerily working its way straight to the dome.

Releases on the Ilian Tape label are nearly always two things – a) shrouded in mystery, and b) a little unconventional. Given that the painter who created the artwork gets a credit on the 12″s label but the musician or musicians themselves get no mention, it’s fair to assume a) has been fulfilled. The music itself fulfils b) too, as hard edged rhythms clocking in closer to electro than techno provide a vehicle much softer, more sensitive musical flourishes. ‘WantU’ is probably the overall highlight, with its crystal clear arp riffing and Kraftwerk-esque bumping, but ‘Chiemgau606’, the rawer ‘OSC’ and ‘Sinister808’ should all appeal to those who like their grooves esoteric and full of personality – but ultimately still dancefloor slaying.

Label head Dj Nephil returns on Gravitational Waves with a new 11 tracks cassette release using his System Disorder project.

Los Angeles based Ole Mic Odd (Michael Padgett) hits Dead Channel with this highly anticipated scorcher of an EP. At the forefront of mutant sounds, Padgett hammers his way through pumped-up, biting acid electro, lo-fi fuzzed out melodia, and absolutely mangled percussive tracks shattering your wrecked body into a thousand pieces. The musical vanguard seamlessly fuses rhythm and sound from the far reaches of modern dance music, culminating in this sinister work of preternatural maximum overdrive.

‘Psykhe’ sees Lithuanian musician and composer Gediminas Jakubka continuing to explore his distinct sound, but taking it in a new direction: a step away from the euphoric new age dance floor and into a significantly murkier, more precarious territory. ‘Psykhe’ is meant as a sonic simulacrum of the artist’s psyche during the pandemic – a quickened mind bred by a decelerated world. In that and other senses, the record is a modern take on the ‘80s/’90s Detroit ethos of dance music created for an illusory dance floor.
