Cute Heels – Spiritual [DE062]

Cute Heels is the solo project of Victor Lenis, a contemporary artist living in Brussels, Belgium. He grew up in Bogot, Columbia during the 1990s, surrounded by the radial punk scene. He has been working with many electronic projects since 2003. He manages the label Black Leather Records, which is also a regular party with live acts and DJ sets. Over the years, Victor’s passion and fascination for synthesizers and drum machines to produce and compose resulted in various digital-only releases as well as his first vinyl release, an EP on Gooiland Elektro. Cute Heels is ready to release their debut album ”Spiritual” of all new material written throughout 2013. ”Spiritual”, rides the line between cold electro-techno and left field electronic body music. Inspired by equal parts Liaisons Dangereuses and Drexciya, ”Spiritual” takes the listener on a journey over 8 tracks and 40 minutes of music. Cute Heels has been called ”the new blood and spirit for the next step in techno music” by electro/techno pioneer Juan Atkins. Listening to ”Spiritual” you can see why. The songs on this full length reveal a sublime influence from Detroit techno, early Chicago house and new wave. Advanced electronics for the dance floor, pumping and sophisticated.

VA – Obliged To Space [FLR008]

Flight Recorderl – home to modern interpretations of other European genres of dance music – Italo, New Beat, and EBM, in conjunction with Radio Oscillations, brings together a collection of music by those producers inspired by these ‘krautrock’ pioneers of the early to mid 1970s on Obliged to Space – a heartfelt and beautifully written love letter to those cosmic sounds of the 1970s. Tracks from Rude 66, Phantom Love, Antoni Maiovvi, Alessandro Parisi, Ian Martin and others.

Arrrgh – Gilga 2 [HHG002/6]

This is the second release and second album for the Gilga series which seems to be proliferating on Felix K’s Hidden Hawaii label. The first LP came from Legowelt, last year’s uber-rare and slept-on Gilga 1, and for all we know Gilga 2 could come from the Dutchman too if we base our findings on the Danny Wolfers-esque track names. Synths and musicality play a big role right across Gilga 2 with dubsteppy drums and other elements effecting tracks like “Reversed Shell” and “These Are My Thoughts”, while there’s a Livity Sound-feel to “Purple Jude”. For something a littler deeper and rhythmic check out “Maschine Series” and “Slow Depression”, while “Harmony Korine (Happy Jungle mix)” ends the LP on a trippy note. Gilga 2 is intriguing machine-made music to say the least.

Delroy Edwards – Teenage Tapes [RAVE005]

Continuing the current vogue for surprise albums issued with the minimum of fanfare we now have Teenage Tapes, a mini-LP from LIES artist Delroy Edwards consisting of production originating from his youth and more recent fare. Those expecting the grizzled ghetto house tools of Delroy’s output for Ron Morelli and his own LA Club Resources label will be disappointed, with this eight track release of untitled productions taking on more of an experimental note. Issued via The Death Of Rave label Teenage Tapes will appeal to fans of Minimal Wave, Diagonal or Gooiland Electro with the fare ranging from frazzled synth experiments to flexing primitive EBM brutalism and unsettling noise.

Lunar Lodge – Singularity [LXRC016]

Lunar Lodge is hailing from the darkest corners of Rome, delivering three tracks of dark analog music. The main track is an hypnotic adventure in noise. A journey into techno of the deepest shade. Signs, with its tense rhythm, is infused with frightening accents and voices. Finally, Event Horizon, closes the EP looking in the distance, the unknown, the death and the sorrows, and infinite solitude.

Common Series – Common Series 2 [CS002]

2nd release on the Common Series. Kraut Rock, Industrial influences all over. Main track is a massive slap bass with trippy string sections. A truly epic track. Seriously cool 8 minute track on this small 200 copies edition release.

Patrick Cowley – School Daze [DE052]

11 track album by Patrick Cowley. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the cannon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of Hi-NRG dance music coined The San Francisco Sound. By the mid-70ies, Patricks synthesizer skills landed him a job composing and producing songs for disco superstar Sylvester such as You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real), Dance Disco Heat and Stars. This helped Patrick obtain more work as a remixer and producer. Of particular note was his 18-minute long remix of Donna Summers I Feel Love. By 1981 Patrick released a string of dance 12inch singles, like Menergy and Megatron Man, creating the soundtrack for a generation. Prior to his passing on November 12, 1982, he recorded two more Hi-NRG hits, Do You Wanna Funk for Sylvester and Right On Target for Paul Parker. In 1981 Patrick was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles. John had heard about Patricks music from the legendary Sylvester and proposed he write music for his films. Patrick jumped on this offer and sent reels of his college compositions from the 70s to John in LA. Coletti then used a variable speed oscillator to adjust the pitch and speed of Patricks songs in-sync with the film scene. School Daze is a collection of Cowleys instrumental songs recorded between 1973 and 1981 found in the Fox Studio vaults. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos and Giorgio Moroder, Patrick forged an electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, modified guitars and self-constructed equipment. The listener enters a world of dark forbidden vices, introspective and reflective of Patricks time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco. The songs on School Daze range from sparse prototechno to high octane funk to somber post-punk to musique concrete, revealing the depth of Cowleys unique talent.

DETTMANN, Marcel - Dettmann II

Following the 2010 self-titled debut, Dettmann II combines techno with ambient, experimental and even house influences on an expertly paced album with a carefully rising narrative and wide scope. Also features a collaboration with Emika amongst contributions from other kindred artists and hints at new directions in the Dettmann sound.

Petar Dundov – Sailing Off The Grid [MMLP039]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/full/CS502465-01A-BIG.jpg

Petar Dundov runs his own ‘Neumatik’ studio in Zagreb where he works as a sound engineer as well as producing his own take on techno, ambient and electronica. Petar’s third LP, Sailing Off The Grid, expands on the lush, intricate synth explorations of his previous two releases, but sees him delve further still into those realms, invoking the spirit of classic ambient and synth-based music of decades gone by. While the album spans just eight tracks, each track clocks in over seven minutes, and some almost double that length. Each is slow-burning, expansive, gradually unfolding to reveal more of itself and to develop its motifs and sentiments without the often hurried constraints of the dancefloor (or even more so, the radio).

Donato Dozzy – Plays Bee Mask [SP029BLACK]

The prospect of Donato Dozzy reworking Bee Mask for the Spectrum Spool label is a mouth watering one and this double LP collection, entitled straightforwardly enough Donato Dozzy Plays Bee Mask more than lives up to it’s billing. Originally commissioned to turn in a remix of Bee Mask’s “Vaporware” track from last year’s LP for Room 40, Dozzy apparently felt the track’s inherent beauty merited more than just the one and sent over seven! This decision has resulted in a superb collection of reimaginations from the Voices Of The Lake producer, ranging from calming moments of serenity to bleepish, deep techno explorations.

Morphosis – Dismantle [HJP072]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS495331-01A-MED.jpg

Dismantle represents Rabih Beaini’s first substantial release as Morphosis since last year’s Tepco Report 12″, and comes in the form of a five track double 12″ release. The first comprises two Morphosis productions obviously aimed at more adventurous DJs, with the title track (in collaboration with Donato Dozzy) comprising subtly rattling percussion and organic tones unfolding over a steady rhythmic pulse, while “Tamrat Version” comes across as more full bodied, with thicker organ textures tied up with pulsing synths. The second 12″ meanwhile is something entirely different, comprising a live score to Carl Theodor Dreyer’s Vampyr recorded in Romania; free of rhythm and utilising some outlandish modular sequencing, it’s the producer at his most immersive.

VA – The Descent Of Man [ELER003]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS492006-01A-MED.jpg

The Descent of Man EP is the third and last part of a trilogy on vinyl dedicated to Charles Darwin studies. This final chapter is focused on the darkest side of electronic music and his impact on human psychology. As Charles Darwin studied the evolution of physical and mental traits, we want to show how obscure, trembling and aggressive sounds generate an increasing sense of agitation and loss while mild and gloomy atmospheres can relieve the body and brain, achieving a peaceful state of mind. Don’t be afraid to move into a shady space. This is not the end even if it could be.

Rabih Beaini ‎– Albidaya [END07]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS489965-01A-MED.jpg

Exploratory Lebanese imprint Annihaya presents a stunning debut album opus by Rabih Beaini aka Morphosis under his birth name. As Rabih was born in Lebanon it is fitting he shares ‘Albidaya’ – meaning “The Beginning” in Arabic – with a label from his home country, who provide acute context for its mixture of electronics, psych rock, folk and jazz. Impressively it was mostly recorded over the course of one day in 2012, wrangling myriad rhythms, tones and shapes from Rabih’s famous collection of vintage analog synthesizers and sequencers meshed with Eko Tiger Duo organ and guitar, and some assistance from Tommaso Cappellato on drums and Piero Bittolo Bon on woodwind and electronics (with additional credits to both Mike Huckaby and Donato Dozzy), and post-production done in Berlin and Rome.

Alessandro Parisi – Hic Sunt Leones [MROME024]

Hic Sunt Leones is a story about secret ancient technologies coming from pre-human civilization. Sacred steam-cyber punk electronix to describe mystic visions about laser marble, positron iron and extra-dimensional explorers too far from our technology-teenage era. Hindi’s Vimana, Israel’s Ark of the covenant, are just footsteps of what we inherit from our creators. The unknown camouflaged into the holy, the inexplicable into the dangerous: this is the aim of the keepers of our evolution It’s time to explore scary lands and finally tame the lions. MinimalRome is back with this great 8 tracks CD album.
