The Transhumans – Theory & Practise Of Domination Vol II: Pleasure & Pain [TH005]

https://i0.wp.com/images.junostatic.com/full/CS500973-01A-BIG.jpg

Transhumans bring some fresh new techno sounds to the platter. ‘A piece of raw asphyxiated post-industrial techno which explores the duality between two primary stimulus: pleasure and pain…’ “Stimulus 1” is squelchy, acidic, reverberating and narcotic. Tailor made to get dancers vibrating manically next to the speaker stacks come 5AM. Übermensch remixes the track into something equally as narcotic, but utilizing repeating dark synth stabs and darting leads to send the track further down the wormhole. “Stimulus 2” has a bounce that recalls Dave Angel and Sound Enforcer – straight up banging Euro tech. Rolando-esque strings converge on the track as it evolves, making for a pretty spine-tingling excursion. Finally “Stimulus 3” uses futuristic drum patterns and sounds for some cerebral twisting and body eleviation.

Shxcxchcxsh – Strgths [AVNLP001]

Cover art - Shxcxchcxsh: Strgths

The enigmatic SHXCXCHCXSH introduced their unique understanding of industrial-leaning techno to Avian with last year’s 12-inch Rjrjrffrjrj. Now Avian announce the Swedish duo’s first full-length album. STRGTHS features 7 scuffed, throbbing industrial tracks. Initiated by the drones of SLVRBBL, the openers’ atmospherics soon give way to the more direct, beat-driven LTTLWLF. RSRRCTN brings dubbier elements into play before leading into LVNGWTR’s searing melody and acidic dynamics. PCTSTSS accelerates up to the record’s zenith, before descending back into the darkness for the cold steel rhythms of WHTLGHT. Closer LLDTMPS evolves over the course of its near-12 minute running time to move from unsettling, disorienting tension to a warmer, contemplative climax.

Morphosis – Dismantle [HJP072]

Dismantle represents Rabih Beaini’s first substantial release as Morphosis since last year’s Tepco Report 12″, and comes in the form of a five track double 12″ release. The first comprises two Morphosis productions obviously aimed at more adventurous DJs, with the title track (in collaboration with Donato Dozzy) comprising subtly rattling percussion and organic tones unfolding over a steady rhythmic pulse, while “Tamrat Version” comes across as more full bodied, with thicker organ textures tied up with pulsing synths. The second 12″ meanwhile is something entirely different, comprising a live score to Carl Theodor Dreyer’s Vampyr recorded in Romania; free of rhythm and utilising some outlandish modular sequencing, it’s the producer at his most immersive.

The Essentials of Techno! It’s been twelve years since the first and last Mike Parker album called “Dispatches”. 12 years later, Prologue is very excited to host the second album from Mike and this time it’s all about techno performed as a kind of ritual. Let us open the secrets of Mike Parker’s “Lustrations”. The title has multiple meanings and stands also for clarity. Clarity is in general the attitude of Mike’s tracks. He has the massive aptitude to bring techno back to the essentials. Mike’s music has clarity in sound structures, bass lines, drums and arrangements. Everything is lead by puristic sound engineering and exactly this kind of unique and authentic Techno can be discovered on “Lustrations”. 12 hypnotic driven tracks designed to be timeless, produced to be played in techno temples in order to set the audience in hypnotism and to clear the mind.

Somaticae – Catharsis [26192]

In 2011, we begin to think about doing a record label. We had been following Somaticae for some time and at this moment he was playing some art and punk gigs with a furious live of electronic improv, on the edge between hypnosis and noise. But Somaticae had already moved forward, and in a matter of a few weeks, he was sending us what quickly and easily took shape as Catharsis, a ten track piece which is to be the first album release on In Paradisum.

Metasplice – Infratracts [DOSER017LP]

Rabih Beaini’s Morphine imprint has undergone something of a renaissance in the past year to become one of contemporary techno’s most vital labels thanks to the recent material from Hieroglyphic Being, Container, Upperground Orchestra and Philadelphia duo Metasplice, whose two EPs for the label have provided some of the most alien sounding techno to emerge in recent years. Their debut album Infratracts appeared this week with no prior fanfare; it’s as exciting a journey into the duo’s uniquely desolate sound world as you could imagine; combining skull-shattering rhythms with brain-warping textures, the whole things recalls a seasick version of Container’s noise techno being transmitted via SETI’s long-range radio telescope. Essential wares for lovers of adventurous electronics…

Svengalisghost – Vicious Circle [LIES022]

After emerging from years of seclusion below the Chicago underground last year, Marquis Cooper aka Svengalisghost, returns with all new material recorded this winter somewhere between the woods of North Carolina and the streets of NYC. An advocate in creating what he calls the “Anti-Beat”, Cooper takes what he’s learned from the traditional machine experimentation of the early pioneers, reconstructs and retransmits the sounds which lie somewhere in the realm of unhinged synth punk or industrial forward-thinking beat electronics. These tracks are truly the essence of house, and a vicious circle it is.

Especially Good ‎– Foundation [EST83-02]

https://i0.wp.com/imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS489339-01A-MED.jpg

“Foundation” is the new EP fromlis’ Especially Good, the most exciting band from Detroit in recent memory. The eight track EP showcases the trios dynamic energy of Julio Dominguez’s vocals, Joe F synthesizers and drum programing and Paul Kiry’s bass – culminating in songs that are equally raw, brutal and honest. The sound of E.G. exists in a space of its own, but one can hear influences of Throbbing Gristle, Factory Records and Detroit Techno in the rhythms and sonic textures throughout “Foundation”. Recorded and mixed in Detroit by Sam Consiglio and Adam Lee Miller (of Adult). Released on Est. 83′ Records, a sub-label of FIT SOUND.

Vatican Shadow – It Stands To Conceal [HOS369LP]

In it’s third year of operations Vatican Shadow became an unavoidable issue on the international noise and techno agenda. Following Type, Blackest Ever Black and Modern Love editions, Dominick Fernow aka Prurient aka Vatican Shadow ploughed forth with his project, resulting in three tapes ‘Jordanian Descent’, ‘Ghosts Of Chechnya’ and ‘Atta’s Apartment Slated For Destruction’, collected here on vinyl for the first time. Disc one features both sides of his extended ‘Jordanian Descent’ meditations, some of his longest in this guise and given to incredible, unfurling loop repetitions; Disc two holds ‘Ghosts Of Chechnya’, one of his most concise and varied issues, eight tracks wide and tending towards gloomy, urgent, cinematic arabesques including the outstanding ‘Voices Came Crackling Across A Motorola Hand-Held Radio’; Disc three comprises the four parts of his amazing ‘Atta’s Apartment Slated For Destruction’ including the impeccable darkness of ‘Once This Fire Gathers Strength’.

Covered In Sand – Heaven’s Gate Suicides [MIRA003]

Shifted unveils yet another cloaked figure with his Covered in Sand project, the first release on the Avian sub-label Mira following two impressive turns from the mysterious Bleaching Agent. The title track to Heavens Gates Suicides is saturated in overdrive with cloudy Regis and BMB influences evident. Vatican Shadow remixes “Heavens Gates Suicides” adding subtle musicality to his version, almost throwing the track out of sync with it’s awkward snare hits – if you can call them that. “Russian Gold & Blood Diamonds” is like a beatless Severed Heads piece pulling desperately at your heartstrings while “Pale Skin” is another electronically shambled scuzz of hollowed hisses and jittery sound design.

VA – Exploitation [ENFANTET017]

‘Exploitation’ is the new film by Dutch independent filmmaker Edwin Brienen. Enfant Terrible produced the soundtrack for this gothic-noir satiric fresco. 90 minutes of music to be enjoyed both as true soundtrack as well as a sequel to previous Enfant Terrible compilations… but more dramatic and ritualistic in the way the record is building up. It will please fans of minimal electronics and (post) industrial music but also moves into different styles such as idm, tekno, angst pop and chanson, while always keeping a dark and cold mood and/or dream state feeling throughout.
