A stalwart of the Dutch techno scene since the mid nineties, Jeroen Search has been ploughing his own furrow aside from the typical norms and standards of the techno scene with lasting integrity and unflinching dedication throughout the years. A coinage derived from the sharp, clinically designed blends he has come to be known for, that Search-sound has long established as a blueprint for DJs seeking laser-guided weaponry into their sets, and Jeroen’s maiden effort for RYC follows that very guideline. Starting with the massive pound of the title-track, “Enigma”, the EP knocks into your system with blunt force, ushering us into a no-frills corridor of hydraulic kicks and sizzling static. As per usual with Jeroen’s compositions, minimalism serves a purpose of exponential effect.

Mark Broom – 100% Juice LP [REKIDS201]
UK techno legend Mark Broom returns to Radio Slave’s imprint Rekids for his latest full length, ‘100% Juice’. Title track ‘100% Juice’ leads the charge, barreling forward with phased hats and trippy bleeps, before ‘Slush’ carries the rest of the A-side with dense synths and stereo trickery. ‘Rainbow’ bridge sees muted chords drifting in and out of focus alongside rattling drum programming before ‘Reverse’ mutates dub techno inspired elements with swathes of spacious FX and pitch-perfect processing. Opening the second disc is the aptly titled ‘Wonky Workout’, which sees hard-hitting kicks meeting freaked out leads, followed by the fast-paced ‘I Want’, which brings crunchy, shuffling percussion and effected vocal samples together to devastating effect. The final side of vinyl is the one-two punch of ‘Boxed In’ and ‘Wiggle Me This’, with the former bringing sharp keys, rumbling low end and glistening pads, while the latter closes out the LP with warped acid lines and crisp drums.

Terrence Dixon – Other Dimensions LP [30DEXOLP-001]
‘Other Dimensions LP’, Terrence Dixon’s latest work and the new adventure in 30D’s ExoPlanets sublabel, comes for the very first time released in full length format, split in two sides, showing Terrence’s two faces. As everyone knows, words can not describe the music of this Detroit visionary, but we’ll try. Futuristic, avant-garde-esque, mesmerizing, trippy and minimalistic / reduced techno funk as expected in A side, but highly emotional and evocative, as only he can do. On the flip side, Terrence redefines and takes to another level the concept of dark, experimental, abstract, atmospheric, alienated and dystopian music, a true musical trip (perhaps a nightmare) to dive into. An extremely personal and intimate album.

Robert Hood presents the return of his Monobox alias with an album featuring seven tracks. For the return of Monobox, Hood has envisaged that the vessel has been lying dormant for 40 or 50 years and is now beginning to rise up again, or regenerate. The new Monobox album, ‘Regenerate’ creates an all-enveloping story from its opening chapter and the atmospheric ‘Rise’. Stripped-back tribalism ensues with ‘Blackwater Canal’ before the ominous ‘Wargames’, while ‘Angel City’ brings a lighter, sparkling touch. Disc two delivers the gritty ‘Exoplanet’ running at over nine minutes as it gradually draws you in, then flip over for the sweeping grooves of ‘Drydock’. The album closes on the album’s title track where vintage melodies sit alongside techno futurism.

The next chapter of Nosignal Records comes from Giri, Neapolitan DJ and producer, owner of Antiterra Records. Giri delivers three perfect tracks of extreme quality, ranging from vibes between space and forest. Following the remix of the Spanish techno master Tadeo, with a superb work.
Atonism – Kiki [KEY027]
Atonism has apparently been production electronic music for 12 years, but somehow this is a first ever official release. It lands on the Key Vinyl label and suggests the artist has a love of proper techno. Opener ‘Stampede’ piles on the pressure with its hurried drums and slinky synths all racing ahead in hypnotic linear fashion. ‘Still’ is a mind melter where drums, bass and synths all interweave freely and manically, then ‘Waiting For You’ mangles fragments of melody into a tight arrangement next to slapping hits and drums and oversized and frazzled hi hats. ‘Kobalt’ is a peak time, strobe lit bit of techno funk.
KSEL – Kontrast [KEY026]
Swedish duo KSEL is made up of Kim Stockblom and Elias Landberg (Skudge). This is their debut offering on the Key Vinyl label and it is couched in Jeff Mills style Detroit techno minimalism. Opener ‘Kontrast’ is all chattery claps, hurried drum loops and subtly evolving synth melodies, ‘Dash’ is edgy and keeps you in suspense, while ‘Reformed’ gets even more manic with its pinging drums and silvery hi hats overlaid with restless and warped synths lines. ‘Codex’ closes out with searching sonar blips and supple drums designed to take you deep down a rabbit hole.

This is the first release of a new mysterious label Wildacre. Straight from the eastern outskirts of the Netherlands with 3 tracks pure effective deep, dubby house & techno groovers.
Terrence Dixon / M.R.E.U.X – Total Chaos [BLUG015]

Psychedelic sounds demonstrate, again, the great mentality of these two artists, loyal to old school underground techno.
