Perseus Traxx – More Songs About Girls [LVNO011]

A great pairing here as the rugged basslines, emotional melodies, and vintage percussion of Perseus Traxx seem right at home on the Love Notes stabel, who seem to be taking a quick break from showcasing artists from their homebase of Brooklyn, as they have on their last 4 records. More Songs About Girls is a cohesive EP of 4 original tracks and neither fans of this artist nor fans of this label will be disappointed.

Heinrich Dressel – The Styx Swamp [BAR014]

DRESSEL, Heinrich - The Styx Swamp

Roman producer (and a force behind MinimalRome label) Valerio Lombardozzi known as Heinrich Dressel returns to Barba with a second release for our label, titled “The Styx Swamp”. Heinrich has a unique way of combining classic techno and electro sounds with elements from the beloved Drexcyan universe and John Carpenter leitmotifs, and making them come together in a manner that both moves your body and pushes your mind beyond the point of awareness. “Gray Slope”, “Sailing The Nether Waterways” and “The Styx Swamp” are all quite moody and deep, rich with sound and thick with vibe. However, the tracks feel equally at home in 4 am techno situation and a heady afterhours affair. He truly is a master of crafting hybrids whose influences get so flawlessly embedded that it’s hard to point them out. If that’s not enough, “The Styx Swamp” got a treatment by Nigel Rogers aka Perseus Traxx, a multi-faceted producer and a mighty live act performer. Nigel stayed respectful to the original but made the original’s bouncy groove into something more direct and reduced, while retaining the same feel conditioned by lead synth’s hypnotic quality.

Perseus Traxx – Secret Gang 001 [SG-001]

Perseus Trax returns to wax with this first outing on new imprint Secret Gang. Three scorching hot electro/acid excursions. Bustling percussion and squelching synths meet head on, resulting in pure dance floor destruction.

VA – Signs Of Decay [SOM038]

Signs of Decay: Acid Compilation with dirty and hard acid cuts by Ekman, The Exaltics, Helena Hauff, Perseus Traxx, Drvg Cvltvre and a artwork made by Godspill. A powerful collective statement on the desiccation some “hard and dirty acid tracks” can do to a dancefloor. Don’t come here looking for any lofty concepts, this is just five of the best banging their boxes in the name of all that is grotty and lysergic.

Alex Cortex – Multi [BAR003]

Cortex means the nerves in brain used for thinking. On fishing boat this part of brain can sometimes stop working due to lack of sleep and repetitive noise of sea. Alex Cortex is clever man who thinks much about music and also names because ‘Spike Train’ is actually a science word for what nerves do. This confuse simple fishermen at first because this track does not sound like a train, more like when you drive very fast and noises outside your window vanish fast into the distance so that you experience much in a short time. But does not matter as we like the sound – drums on this one are snappy and funksome with big deep bass and a lot happening to occupy nerves. As well as original there is nice mix from Florian Kupfer which is very much simpler and has loud scary kicks which are like the 90s gabber music but actually nice to listen to. ‘Multi’ EP also has ‘Time Texture’ which is maybe not so much a track for dancing to and sounds more like frog blowing bubbles in x-ray machine. Perseus Traxx takes this tune and adds a big descending electro bassline so frog can journey to centre of earth. People who wish techno to tingle head nerves and then forget about head nerves because body nerves are working should buy this record.

Perseus Traxx – ILA007 [ILA007]

Seventh release in the I Love Acid series. Perseus Traxx in action with some lush acid techno – melodies submerged in deep reverb amongst clattering drum machines and 303 snarls. All original analogue kit, all the real deal.

Perseus Traxx – The Magic Garden [TC003]

Next up on Titanic City is Nigel Rogers AKA Perseus Traxx. He has been a staple part on most record bags, a man dedicated to performance outside the box. There’s a rough and raw DIY feel to this music that makes it jump out of the speakers and arrest your attention, as is always the case with Titanic City.

Perseus Traxx – Goddesses Of Inspiration II [FLR012]

18 months after Perseus Traxx brought us his first E.P, dedicated to four of the nine Muses of ancient Greece, Flight Recorder now brings you the second installment dedicated to four more Muses, on “Goddesses Of Inspiration II”. The feel is the same as before with jagged cutting tones jammed live then edited down. Heavy synths and scattered drums perform an ode characterising the appropriate Muses, as tangled wires and a pair of hands wrench the overload of inspiration they give from basic machines. Once again Perseus’ release on Flight Recorder is a unique set of acid-free sonic experiments, that sometimes feel as cold and edgy, as they do warm and carefree.

Perseus Traxx – Dr Burisch [COTF006]

The new release from Perseus Traxx ‘Dr Burisch’ on Crimes of the Future, is a four track soundtrack to some forgotten alien abduction documentary… maybe. Starting off with ‘Rainy Tuesday’ and its skipping pitch shift melodies, and followed by ‘Lotus Protocol’ and its almost Richard D. hook. On the flip we have the title track, slow and building, very much the ‘theme’ of the piece. The EP finishes with ‘Electrical Surge’, and its static crackle of radio interference and damaged power lines.

Perseus Traxx – Harmony Of Elements EP [PF007]

Perseus Traxx, aka Nigel Rogers, is returning to Photic Fields with a four track outing. This young Briton has time and time again shown his ability to sculpt soulful soundscapes using the building blocks laid down by Chicago House. Harmony of Elements is further proof of this. From the outset lush key strokes are laid down, warmth and texture brushed with subtle beats. Percussion patterns are used to scaffold achingly delicate bars. Autumnal tones swirl amongst warm winds and colder currents. Darker moments are present, nightskies bruise under weighty bars. M>O>S man ASOK is on remix duty, blotting “Grey Skies” with his ink-stained sounds; eclipsed moods balanced with honeyed notes. Harmony of Elements sees Nigel Rogers full range of ability on display. There’s a revived and renewed complexity to this layered EP. A landscape of emotion is lovingly created, edges are smoothed and richness flows.
