Sandwell District – End Beginnings LP [PODR012LP]

‘End Beginnings’, the new album by Sandwell District, is the collective’s first new music since the tragic death of Juan Mendez (Silent Servant) in January 2024. Mendez’s stunning artwork and visuals have always been a central pillar of Sandwell District; in fact, he worked on a piece titled ‘End Beginnings’ – now the title of the third album and a tribute to their late friend. ‘End Beginnings’ invites new recruits – Monic, Rivet, and Sarah Wreath – and brings together towering techno and mind-blowing dancefloor dynamics, a masterful combination of innovation and ecstasy. It’s as deep, sturdy, and hypnotic as you would hope from the unit that invoked a sea change in techno and related club music during the 2000s and early 2010s.

Dungeon Acid – Dungeon Jams [ZAQUA]

DUNGEON ACID - Dungeon Jams (Rivet & DJ Fett Birger remixes)

Direct out of deepest Neukolln emerges Z O D I A C 4 4. Rusty, broken and cantankerous we spill forth our first ever release with Dungeon Acid at the helm. Dungeon Jams sees the Swedish producer summon madness from the depths of his mind and unleashes it on the world via his Computerriddimdrummachiner and the Analoguewavecombosignalizer. Aboard the pirate ship are fellow Viking Rivet and Nordic saint DJ Fett Burger with both bringing their own inimitable and unparalleled sonic grooves to the battleground.

Patrik Sjeren – WorkThat Body [VR001]

Swedish acid techno legend Patrik Sjern has experienced something of a career revival since an unexpected production credit on a FXHE 12″ last year; this EP for the newly minted Virgo Rising label is his second of 2013 following that excellent 12″ for the Fit operation out of Detroit. Not bad for someone who’s been seemingly absent since a ’95 12″ on the Fuck Pig Recordings label. The lead cut packs similar heat to Steve Poindexter’s seminal “Work That Mutha Fucker” with its hyperactive ’90s-styled acid synths weaving in between hardcore Adam X industrial strength sonics. Sharing the A-side is the cut up, percussive and broken ghetto techno of “Mannitj”, while Adam Rivet’s remix to the title track slows in BPM, opting for something much lighter in comparison, it’s equally jacking, with uplifting synths stopping the EP from becoming too much of a militant monster.

Rivet & Marcel Fengler – Amid the Roar [KM023]

Rivet puts a lot of effort in his sounds and his production. This is not another copycat. First out on the EP Amid the Roar is Metrist, a sexy march that blends the stiffness 80-ties disco with techno from the future. On the b-side Marcel Fengler takes his turn on Metris. He keeps the string of the original, chops up the bass and creates a dancefloor monster with a big anthem alert stamp on it. Amid the Roar ends with what might be the strongest track on the ep.
