Donato Dozzy / Retina.it – Officine Di Efesto [SEM075]

Officine Di Efesto is the latest 12″slab from Svreca’s ever on-point Semantica featuring remixes of two uncredited tracks from Donato Dozzy and Naples duo Retina. It, and the lack of further information doesn’t lessen the sonic impact. Dozzy features on the A-side, with his remix of “Automa Talos” a potent exercise in unrelenting techno hypnosis with a strange looped sound that is weirdly reminiscent of ducks quacking present throughout. The Retina. It take on “Automa Pandora” is a much more stripped back, minimal affair that is just as effective.

Cio D’or – All In All [SEMANTICA073]

While music in its definitive nature fills both space and time, creating environments in which we live and breathe, these miniature dramaturgies string together to become the screenplay to ones existence. Sometimes chosen, and often times forced, these sounds influence the subconscious and designate emotions. Purposely flowing fluently through a spectrum ranging from theatrical to rapturous tensions that mingle through the night. Cio D’Or’s cinematic compilation for Semantica explores another side of techno, a niche home to Cio where each intricate sound takes a risk for the sake of progression.

PLANT43 - Return To The Sentient City

Third and final chapter for the Sentient City serie by Plant43 aka Bleep43 crew member Emile Facey on Semantica Records. Continuing the theme of his previous two releases, the four strong suite of intense electro revolves around Facey’s sonic travels through the imaginary Sentient City. If you have indulged in previous Plant43 output you will know the London artist possesses a masterful range and it’s displayed wonderfully here. Opener “Chain Of Memories” combines ripples of richness with the instantly gratifying snap of 808 programming, whilst “Ascendant Machines” is a wonderful example of his ear for melody. B side opener “Ubicomp Malfunction” veers into alien territory whilst “Amphibious Architechture” offers a contemplative finale.

Inigo Kennedy – Vignettes (Two) [SEMANTICA036]

Cover art - Inigo Kennedy: Vignettes (Two)

A techno man for over 15 years, Inigo Kennedy was initially associated with labels like ZET and Missile in the second half of the 1990’s. Thereafter he took it easier until making a return to the studio some years ago. Formerly known as a backer of harsh 4/4 beats, Kennedy now explores new directions and follows up the first “Vignettes” experimental single released last year on Semantica. The second installment sees Kennedy moving closer to the floor again. Made for club charts is “Shapeshifter”, a mid-pace techno cut with abstract notes and occasional deep bass rave stabs, sending fluorescent sinusoids flashing through time and space. “Disquiet” bombs protons in thin air in an electrofied exercise. The B-side concludes with digital ballad “Ihana”, which feels like picking the summer’s first strawberries. Different from what I remember Kennedy doing, but contains a fair amount of excitement.
