/DL/MS/ – Exit Ghost [TRUST031]

Deep space techno electro on TRUST celebrating the label’s year XX. /DL/MS/ is the viennese duo behind recent Frustrated Funk outing, ‘Omakuda’, last year’s TRUST29, ‘Rogue Intent’, as well as one of the most-played electro tracks of 2017 – their remix of Second Storey’s ‘Attack Of The Modlings’. ‘Exit Ghosts’ takes the /DL/MS/ sound far into haunted new orbits, trading some of its earthy rumble for more ethereal emanations. stark and sombre bass signals return, but find themselves enveloped in delicately threaded string anomalies, copious amounts of melodic ectoplasm, and spirit-like liquid funk dilutions.

Harmonious Thelonious – Background Noise [KM051]

Harmonious Thelonious returns to the Kontra-Musik family with an absolute gem of a record. This is everything we want dance music to be: characterful, playful and impossibly funky. Harmonious Thelonious is a master of crafting organic sounding rhythms but arranging them in a manner that reminds one of a 1970’s car factory. Primal pulses running through modern assembly lines, gears and pistons covered in green lianas. The result is a perfect symbiosis between living tissue and mechanical parts – dance music for primitive cyborgs.

Chino – Kolaps [SHTUM016]

Chino from Krakow is one of Poland’s most distinctive players when it comes to providing a good amount of darkness into your nightlife experiences. With the Radar crew he’s hosting some of the wildest nights of Underground Dance music in Poland. When producing he has a knack for ice cold rhythms and sharp synth lines. His ever-changing, gear-heavy live sets have earned him a reputation as a tour de force in electronic beat music. Chino delivers an impressive five-tracker for shtum out of Dresden, a city he maintains a well-established connection to. From the hard hitting rhythms of “Kolaps” to the gloomy sound excursions of “Plattenbau”, you’ll feel in every note that this music comes straight from the heart. These are tracks that are interwoven by everything that surrounds Chino, whether it’s friends, drum machines or FM synths, architecture or just the mighty Tatra mountains. Dance the pain away.

Casey Tucker – Knoe 2/4 [KNOE2/4]

For Those That Knoe are back with another wedge of dusted down delights from Casey Tucker, a hidden treasure of the mid 90s that nearly got away. Fortunately his effervescent machine soul jams have found a new lease of life with these reissues, and this fourth installment comes from a freshly unearthed box of DATs that pushes Tucker’s story even further. “Inner Strength” is a pumped up shot of dynamic techno in the classic sense of the word, mysterious but hopeful, tough but sensitive. “Terraform,” which previously aired on a long-deleted 12″ from the 90s, takes things skywards with an unabashedly positive tone to the dense layers of synths and box beats. “Waiting Game” rounds the EP out on a wistful, acid-drenched tip – let’s hope there’s more jams of this quality to come from the Tucker archives.

Betonkust & Palmbomen II – Center Parcs LP [DKMNTL058]

Recorded in an ageing holiday park during off-season, Center Parcs is the debut LP by Dutch artists Betonkust & Palmbomen II; a conceptual, musical-tristesse full of lo-fi harmony, and fanciful, psychedelic-coloured modulations, with an undercurrent of saturated, outsider-house beats, all recorded to tape. With a shared passion for experimental music, and gnarled Dutch electro, the duo have crafted an LP of esoteric-electronic-pop, reflective of the time the two spent holed-up in isolation, in the out-of-time Center Parcs setting.

Jordan Zawideh – Acid Series Vol. 3 [IT-40]

The Acid Series celebrates over 10 years of No Way Back, with music that directly references that experience. Jordan Zawideh’s music perfectly reflects his personal migration from Detroit to Chicago. It somehow combines the raw elegance of a Larry Heard demo (listen to the demos of ”A Path” or ”Acid Dreams” and cry) with Detroit Techno and an unconscious take on the sonic exploration of Drexciya, showcased in songs like ”Magellanic Cloud” and ”Trails of Sophia”. In Jordan’s sound, the raw power of the cassette era of Chicago House combines with a Detroit Acid Dream. Gay Marvine and BMG complete the package with two edits.
