Robert D – Lost Legacy Tracks EP [AAL005]

Robin De Wolf is a man of many talents (and identities). Almost two years ago, he co-produced a groundbreaking debut EP, as one half of SHIN. At the moment, he’s making a name for himself as ‘Phara’ with uncompromising hard techno on labels such as Black Sun and Stockholm LTD. And now he delivered us three solid tracks under his new alter ego ‘Robert D’. While ‘Un Ni Yo is a house track with a wavy sound and affective synths, the second A-sided track ‘Dommel’ is a banger that begins with a smooth intro that changes over into hard kicks and raw bass chords. On the B-side, you can find a more melancholic uptempo track that goes by the name of White’s Wisdom. Interstellar Funk’ tops it all off with a remix of ‘Un Ni Yo’ that combines the wavy sound of the original with synth-heavy electronics.

Tobias. – Eyes In The Center [OSTGUTLP025]

Tobias. returns to Ostgut Ton with his third full length Eyes In The Center and expands the musical narrative laid out by his Helium Sessions EP (O-TON, 2016). The Berghain resident keeps exploring the vast modular synth-driven Techno, Experimental and Ambient territories on a journey in-between genres. Tobias Freund is long established as an influential artist and has – since the early 1990s – been working as a professional producer, sound engineer, label owner and strictly live musician. On Eyes In The Center Tobias. sticks to this mantra. The album, instead of following a stringent musical concept, channels a certain attitude and sovereignty fed by almost three decades of Tobias. expanding his skills in music production, in their entirety the 12 songs work as a raw, unpolished collage and evoke the spirit of (Post) Punk and the more experimental niches of electronic music. Think Chrome, Residents and Throbbing Gristle – but not Kraftwerk. Or think The Human League, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Der Plan, but think more in terms of musical attitudes and concepts rather than past sound aesthetics.

Noah Gibson – A New Hope [MDR022]

GIBSON, Noah - A New Hope

Sweden’s Noah Gibson first appeared in 2015 on his local imprint Krasch Records, in addition to a release on TANSTAAFL and his own Trouble In Paradise imprint which he runs with Henrik Bergqvist. It’s quite impressive that his sixth release thus far in such a short amount of time lands on Marcel Dettmann’s esteemed imprint. “A New Hope” features six cuts of raw and jacking analogue techno shenanigans which are quite a departure from the label’s usual preference for harsh and industrial greyscale techno excursions. Gibson’s style is somewhat reminiscent of the rusty analogue punk of homegrown heroes like Frak at times; especially on the lo-fi electro funk of “Silent Install” which was real style. However, the high octane clang and clatter of “Origin” and the cyclical thump of “Tilt” (MD Edit) will have the MDR faithful satisfied for sure.

Tolouse Low Trax – Decade Vol.3/3 [ATN030-03]

The thrid an final installment of archive material. Tolouse Low Trax just needs an MPC, a small Synthesizer set up and some effects to create subliminal hypnotic music trips, driven by dark synthlines and drunken shuffled patterns. ”The primitiveness in my music is linked to something simple, and that don’t have to be obligatory minimal. For me it is enough to dance rough around the core. Music you don’t shape till the end contains of a moment of beauty. A veil of secrecy. I work very simply. I rather reduce my possibilities in ompass. Limitations offer lots of liberties.”

Xosar – Xymeria [FREE DOWNLOAD]

The year is 2051. The human race has split into two groups. One maintained their basic human state, while the other transformed by tapping into their psychospiritual lifeforce potential. The second group created a higher dimensional civilization. They called it Xymeria.

JP Enfant – Sjatoo [LET005]

LET Recordings boss JP Enfant returns to his own label for a third solo EP. The Dutchman, who is a resident at De School in Amsterdam, mixes up techno, breakbeat, ambient, dub and house into his own long and all consuming tracks, and on his latest EP he does that once more. Spacious and elastic grooves aimed at the body and the floor. Once again, this versatile and robust offering from JP Enfant is another standout release on the young label.

Slip-D – Hypnoelectronix No.1 [HPNX001]

The North East of England is known for its role in helping to shape the UK House and Techno club landscape during the late 80’s and throughout 90’s. It’s infectious and raw energy engaged Slip-D from a young age exposing him to a number of venues including The Riverside, Empire, Pleasure Rooms and the hedonistic Rockshots. Drawing inspiration from the scene along with potent labels like Svek, Guidance and Shaboom that came in to prominence in the late 90’s, a bedroom studio set up of amassed hardware funded on a basic income was then formed over time. Residence in Teesdale Avenue, regular local Car Thefts and the wail of the Rag and Bone man all assembled themselves as a formula of what was happening outside the 4 walls of the studio. The vaulted Hypnoelectronix No.1 finally got pressed after some years, and transports us to the true crux of that era.

Romansoff – Colonial Past / Bodylock [SPORTIV002]

Bucharest’s Romansoff brings post-industrial heat on the second Sportiv release. Tudor cranks it to 11 and does crunchy, saturated beats under a killer analog riff on “Colonial Past”. “Bodylock” on the flip is equally intense but chooses a more stone-cold approach. Gripping, energetic material from a country at peak creativity. Sportiv is a dexterous white label operation that brings you heavy-weight rhythmic performances from the world of techno athletics.

Jann – Murder People [PBD006]

Jann arrives on Pinkman with a soundtrack of breathless panic, an ode to a blighted world of diesel fumes and indifference. Rhythms are grizzly, gored and torn. Thick chords judder, revving like a clapped-out engine as metal slashes at savaged snares. Acid scorn is poured on this inhospitable world, amplified by the haze of distortion that clouds Jann’s hard and cold vision.
