VA – Dalmata Daniel eats Lahmacun [DDC04]

Pure energy shines through the latest Dalmata Daniel compilation, where all producers gathered together for a good cause. Lockdowns and social distancing practices are slowly easing up in the luckier half of the world, yet local producers and clubs are still facing a hard ongoing period of no live shows with a non-existing club culture. As a result, web-based platforms are more important than ever. The Lahmacun community radio is an integral part of our Budapest scene, as they provide a remarkable online platform not only to musicians and DJs, but to local broadcasters, hosts and music enthusiasts alike. Keeping up the spirit, Lahmacun radio is eager to promote and celebrate music from the local Hungarian scene and from passionate labels, collectives and communities, be it anywhere in the world. This 20-track fundraising compilation is therefore dedicated to Lahmacun radio. It is presented by 10 local and 10 international producers, hailing from the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Greece and Israel. All of us worked and participated in this compilation to help the operation of this very important platform. All income we receive from sales of this V/A goes to support their work.

Stanislav Tolkachev – Up The Steel Stairway [RYCL014]

TOLKACHEV, Stanislav - Up The Steel Stairway

Ukrainian don Stanislav Tolkachev resurfaces with his debut solo four-tracker for Reclaim Your City. Not quite swerving from the sonic pathway his name has become synonymous with over the years, ever so alien and transporting, Tolkachev’s latest boasts the very exact qualities that have made his sound stand out from others, earning him a constantly growing crowd of heirs and imitators along the way. Breaking the trip in, ‘Up The Steel Stairway’ sets the tone for the EP without further ado. Sniping hails of steadily frantic, arpeggiated synth chords and puncturing kick drums that’ll have you dancing like one rolls with the punches, Tolkachev sails into the eye of the cyclone all guns blazing. Lacking no pounding heft either, ‘The Less You Know’ slits a way open into your head through a carefully dissonant symbiosis of corrosive synth lines and octave-shifting bass gone astray. On-the-edge techno at its rowdiest, most mentally challenging. Flip the coin and here comes the deranged, trouble-brewing ‘One More To Go’. Cranking the mind-bogglingness a notch further, this one bulldozers its way past all sanity thresholds without blinking. Final number ‘The Way To The After’ tops it off in more straightforward but equally immersive fashion. Plunging us in a submerged chamber of sorts, where heavily verbed-out synth flexions entangle along tranquilly ascending pads, progressively dissolving in inert pools of FX-charged bleach and slo-dripping dub venom.

ANNA FUNK DAMAGE/DUTCH COURAGE - DDS 04

Up to kick off 2021 in the most adequately frenzied, thoroughly corrosive fashion, DDS04 serves up a quintet of chrome-tanned, hi-velocity beats courtesy of Italian hardware fetishist Anna Funk Damage and Austrian-Hungarian outfit Dutch Courage – alias Superskin & Uj Bala – each of whom step up to the plate to deliver an exquisitely ear-wormy slice of their deranged industrial gospel.

Boris Barksdale – Slip the Pick [PHXS17]

“Slip The Pick” is a Street Electro industrial ghetto eight tracken album from the Greek producer who is based in France, Boris Barksdale. “Slip The Pick” strongly remind of the now-iconic electro of the mid-late 1980s, confused with unconventional elements, industrial textures, featuring atonal noise, distorted drums and ghetto vocals.

VA – No Photos On The Dancefloor! Berlin Techno 1992-Today [ABPLP0061/ABPLP0062]

VARIOUS - No Photos On The Dancefloor! Berlin Techno 1992-2006: Volume 1

‘No Photos on the Dance Floor! Berlin Techno 1992–Today’, compiled by Heiko Hoffmann, follows a hugely successful photography and video art exhibition by the same name that was co-curated by Hoffmann and shown at C/O Berlin in late 2019. The exhibition included works by photographers and visual artists such as Wolfgang Tillmans, Romual Karmakar, Sven Marquardt and Camille Blake, that dealt with Berlin’s club culture since the fall of the wall. It was followed in 2020 by a book of the same name which collected together the most striking imagery from the exhibition alongside interviews and personal essays.

Șerb – Transient Recs 2 [NDWAX008]

SERB - Transient Recs 2

In 2015 we stumbled across an EP by a low-profile Romanian producer, which retrospectively was a pivotal event for the development of the label. This record was Serb’s ‘Transient Recs 1’, released via Listen2me from Bucharest. We were deeply touched by the harsh and progressive sound of the tunes, which at the same time were so musical.
After a remix for Fehlzuendung and his LP ‘A12 Proceedings’ in 2018, things are coming full circle in 2021 as Șerb returns to Night Defined Recordings with ‘Transient Recs 2’, a collection of tracks produced between 2015 and 2018.
