Len Faki – Basement Trax Vol. 01 [OSTGUUTT064]

Len Faki is no stranger to Ostgut Ton having mixed the label’s third Berghain CD back in 2009. The Basement Trax Vol 1 12″ signals Faki’s return to Ostgut Ton in impressive and diverse fashion. Lead track “Btx1” is dominated by the heavily processed treatment of some orgasmic sounding female vocals which are submerged deep in the mix and smeared greedily across the channels chased by whip cracking percussion. The flipside accompaniment “Btx2” is a tougher version with the tribalistic percussion gradually consumed by the vastness of Faki’s string arrangements and the final version “Btx3” sees Faki present a swirling mass of ambient calm.

In anticipation of his forth-coming solo album, Aesthetic Audio’s Keith Worthy fathoms the worlds between the deep house and techno genres on his newest release ‘Lamar’. This double-sided banger methodically blurs raw abstract intensions with melodic chord play and the result is a frenzy of purpose & deep bliss.

Todd Modes / Bobby Dolo – M1 SSSNS #4 [M1SESN104]

M1 Sessions #4 features the men behind the scenes of M1 Sessions. Bobby Dolo and Todd Modes have been working together for years as DJ’s, Producers, and loft party hosts. Todd brings his own brand of sexy, deep house with a warm, late night vibe. Dolo’s side offers a samba-ish chop up of Dr. buzzard’s Sunshowers, and a disco edit of tropically groovy proportions.”

VA – Strings Of Love [KSR011]

Kinda Soul Recordings is back with a 3 track ep featuring Chet, Mnks (a project by M.Napoletano & Ksoul), Isoul8 & K.Tatham. “Strings of love” by Chet is an obscure sexy house track done in Dresden. “Collapsing Machines” by Ksoul & M.Napoletano is a sinister jazzy industrial track produced live in one take only at Marcello’s studio a couple of years ago trying to explore many sides of our musical taste. The b-side feature an awesome unreleased track by the reverend Isoul8 & Kaidi Tatham on keys.

Jovonn – Stump It EP [MU002]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS482039-01A-MED.jpg

Re-issue of Jovonn with some of his high priced tracks from Discogs. Probably not the classic smooth and sexy Jovonn as some know him but for sure some of the classic US house cuts that still sound fresh. Garage Shelter comes with a remix of Tuff City Kids in a nice yet a bit dented sleeve.

Calibre – Fabrivlive.68 [FABRIC136]

Dominick Martin’s a little bit of an anomaly in terms of contemporary drum & bass. Having been active and continually releasing music under his Calibre alias since 1998, it feels a little odd in a modern world so besotted with over sharing to think that he’s never had a remix made of his material, nor has ever released a commercial mix CD or ever managed an online presence. He’s one of those artists whose reputation simply precedes him; thanks in a large part to his incredible body of work that covers seven artist albums and countless 12”s, EPs and remixes. It’s an outlook Calibre draws on quite heavily for the duration of FABRICLIVE 68, using his own music and that of his peers to create a mix that’s both reflective of the way that he plays when he DJs and the bafflingly bountiful body of work he’s produced.

Consequence – Atrium / Box Rituals [RED012]

Cameron McLaren as Consequence with two tracks on Pushing Red. ‘Atrium’ is a steppy affair with it’s splintered kicks and shuffled snares. Warped atmospheres weave in and out of the background while bass works the chest and keeps thing interesting. ‘Box Rituals’ is a super deep, uplifting affair. A steady 4/4 pulsates throughout the tune while serene melodies float above keeping everything together.

Calibre – Rennaisance [PRINT007]

Dominick Martin aka Calibre contributes 3 different tracks on the “Renaissance EP”on Footprints. While “Plugs” runs on a bass heavy Drum N Bass mode, it is the title track that offers deep atmospheric dubbed out house music. The soulful uptempo version on “Reach” round off this recommended package.

Usio – Kuwa Huru LP [BARN012]

Years after rumors of the mysterious Usio first started spreading, Studio Barnhus are finally ready to release the project’s debut outing, an LP called Kuwa Huru. This is emotional, intricate electronic blues for the modern dance floor, with 8 tracks ranging from afro-beat influenced house jams to starlight spangled techno compositions.

Tony Lionni – Midnight Manoeuvres [FR180]

Tony Lionni ahead of his Madhouse album comes this three solid modern house tracks on Freerange. Title track ‘Midnight Manoeuvres’ is a main room stomper with a looped grooves that slowly builds and drops as the track progressive. A great cut that hasn’t been overworked. ‘Two Dark Figures’ captures that New Jersey vibe, but with a deeper, techy touch. Warm, soulful underground house sounds. ‘When Time Began’ gets on the synth arpeggio wave, letting the spiralling keyboard lines ride off into the distance.

Parris Mitchell – Juke Joints Vol. Two EP [DEMO006]

The second volume of Parris Mitchell’s Juke Joints presents his first new material since 1997. The A-side is taken up with “Across My Machine”, an uptempo deep house roller whose furious rhythms are joined by an insistent dub chord, sounding quite unlike anything we’ve ever heard from the producer. “Near My Eyes” is closer to the sample-based ghetto house of his past, with juddering vocal samples ploughing across a firm, bumping and deep Chi town groove, but it’s “The Track Stars” that sees him really return to his Dance Mania roots, with a lithe, elastic drum tool reminiscent of his classic “Rubber Jazz Band”
