Chris Davis – Travelling Light [EE028RTM]

New release by Chris Davis who is one of the founding members of 80s cold wave legends Shoc Corridor. On Travelling Light, his first solo release on vinyl, Chris Davis moves within the space between minimal wave and dark ambient. The three original tracks on side A are emotionally rich, melodically strong and leave you with a sense of nostalgia. On side B, the tracks are remixed by Electronic Emergencies’ finest in various styles: dark electro by Rude 66, disco noir by Machinegewehr and industrial ambient by Yabibo Hazurfa.

Peel Seamus – Susurro [138DSR]

Delsin founder Marsel van der Wielen revives his Peel Seamus alias for a debut album proper. The leading Dutch techno label began in 1996 with a cassette-only Peel Seamus release, Publik Draft, which Van der Wielen primarily distributed through early online channels of communication. There was a small flurry of 12″ releases from the project around the turn of the century, but for a long time Peel Seamus has been quiet. Now Van der Wielen has gathered together tracks from his archives, mostly written and recorded circa 2000, to present the Peel Seamus debut album proper, Susurro. Rooted in the classic Detroit and European techno that Delsin’s identity is forged on, it’s a deep, rich listen laden with heart and soul to match the mechanics of Van der Wielen’s chosen tools – a masterclass in expressive electronics and a fascinating insight into the musical DNA behind one of the world’s finest techno labels.

Jeff Mills – The Director’s Cut Chapter 5 [AX083DC]

For those who dig Jeff Mills but don’t have the time or money to hoard records from his extensive back catalogue, the ongoing “Director’s Cut” series showcasing hard-to-find gems from his discography is a godsend. Volume five begins with a trip back to 2015 and “Solar Cycles” – an alien-sounding, otherworldly mid-tempo techno loop jam – from the limited edition, USB-only “Proxima Centauri” album. Side B begins with the bleeping tribal techno hustle of “L8” from 1998’s “Skin Deep EP”, before Mills offers us a chance to drift through space via 2006 track “Above Waiting Worlds”, which is one of his most intergalactic and cinematic dancefloor cuts to date (and that’s saying something).

Julien H Mulder – The Sequence EP [SYMLTD006]

Swedens’s Julien H Mulder delivers the sixth release for Ben Sims’ Symbolism LTD imprint this Autumn. Mulder, who has been releasing his brand of tripped out, spacey techno since 2007 received what is perhaps the ultimate techno compliment early this year when Jeff Mills mistakenly released Mulder’s ‘Patterns in Nature’ as his own on Axis offshoot, Str Mrkd. Now, we’re treated to a full EP of spaced out but punchy techno cuts.

Octave One – Locus of Control Vol. 2 [4W720]

Detroit pioneers Octave One serve up Locus of Control Volume 2, continuing their journey of exploration of power or powerlessness over what moves one’s world. This EP series takes its name from a psychological concept that refers to how strongly people believe they have control over the situations and experiences that affect their lives. Part 1 showcased euphoric piano stabs and uplifting drum lines, and Part 2 explores more propulsive techno.

Vortice Mortale – Memento Mori [W07]

This artist tends to use vintage, analog and modular synths. Vortice Mortale is his new project in which he mixes space disco and dark synth music. It is clear as water that Herbert West loves Italian horror movies and French disco music of the past decade considering that this work “Memento Mori” is perhaps a perfect combination of powerful beats, enigmatic passages and wicked catchy melodies.
