Mark Broom & James Ruskin – Erotic Misery [BP031]
James Ruskin and Mark Broom follow up their previous and serious selling outing (BP029 No Time Soon) with a stonking slab of the dark techno stuff. ‘Erotic Misery’ ploughs a heavy 10 minute groove of dry humping bass throbs with a payload of acrid synthline dissonance while ‘The Future That Was’ hankers for classic dark techno memes with a dirty, pipe-rolled bass sound and Millsian ambient drones. ‘Black Lines’ is far slinkier, kinked with swinging drum patterns and stealthy synth arrangements.

Rough electro boogieness in High Definition. Running Back unearthed a treasure from the UK Eighties art funk vaults: “Nature Makes A Mistake” – written and produced by Chris Bishop. The little diamond was given the treatment by those ueber-couturiers of electrical bliss-dom: Ame (teaming-up with Marcel Dettmann in the mix). The result is maintaining the spirit of the original and teleporting it onto the dance floors of the 21st century, the age this piece of futurist art always was destined to have its true rightful place in time.

Hipodrome Podcast 008 – Alexander D’niel
The year 2010 was a good year, we started to do the podcast series and some events also, bringing artist like Mick Wills and Traxx and revealing mysterious cats like Das Komitee and Transilmania. Mostly we championed the Chicago sound in our podcast series, there was also some techno on the side and Italo in the middle.
Now we present the last podcast of 2010, a session from Alexander D’niel, a young artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. This podcast is an one hour length incursion in the berghain-esque sound.

Publicist is the brainchild of Sebastian Thomson, mainly known as the drummer for post-rock stalwarts Trans Am and punk band Weird War. Mixing live drums and vocoded vox with spacey, arpeggiated dance rhythms and funk-laden bass lines, Publicist’s one man band approach appeals directly to a spectrum of 70s kraut-rockers, DJs, dancers, and party people.
Marcello Giordani – Disco Cutz [IDR003]
Three other edits by the Italo Deviances founder Marcello Giordani. ‘Stop’ is an Italian release from 1983 with 303, live & electronic drums, and percussions…a very Chicago feeling till the lead vocal starts so become very early 80s Italo Disco! ‘Automatic’ is from an Italian singer / soubrette called Patrizia Pellegrino… warm bass and synth pianos with a space/ flangered lead vocals. ‘P&P’ is a must for all disco lovers, taken from the break of Nightlife Unlimited Peaches & Prunes its a tribute to Ron Hardy.
Social Disco Club – Dynamite [DD017]
Social Disco Club returns for his second release on the Disco Deviance imprint, and he delivers two mighty fine reworks that perfectly bridge the gap between Disco and House tastes.
Fernando – Endless Disco [REDUX013]
Fernando returns to Redux with some fine disco funk tracks based on some classic material. ‘Endless Disco’ and ‘Retrospective’ might come at different tempos, but they compliment each other perfectly, both are prime examples of his deep, low slung disco excursions, that feature his live bass and vocals. Bearfunk chief Steve Kotey repays the remix favour on a great mix of ‘Endless Disco’.
Sandwell District – Feed-Forward [SD2X1201]
International techno collective and record label Sandwell District release their debut studio album. Feed-Forward, features previously unreleased techno cuts by the three central Sandwell artists – Dave Sumner as Function, Karl O’Connor as Regis and Juan Mendez as Silent Servant, with additional input from Female. A trademark, highly effective array of big industrial beats, off-kilter riffs and icy strings can be expected.
Marcelus – EP1 [DRH032]
Expertly crafted DJ tools from a new French producer, the serious debut ‘EP1’ by Marcelus. The A-side confidently straddles that boundary between deepest Techno and House music with the pulsing, hypnotic propulsion of ‘Perception’ and ‘Friction’. The B-side goes more House wise with the sublime square bass churn of ‘Utopia’ and the squashed aquatic Dub House of ‘Phenomena’.
Tim Wolff – The Straight Story [WOLF019]
A deep, flowing piece of music with loads of dynamics, climaxes and atmosphere from the Dutchman Tim Wolff. Some well crafted techno tracks full of beautiful strings and fragile melodies. Steve Rachmad and Estroe on remix duty.
