Mark Du Mosch – Cold Sweat EP [CD006]

Rotterdam’s legendary disco-house producer Mark Du Mosch presents his debut release for Cyber Dance Records in the shape of the Cold Sweat EP. Consisting of five outstanding tracks that take us from the near-italo disco bliss of Now Or Never to the classic Dutch lo-fi electro sounds of Revenger, on to the searing intensity of The System and the title track then rounded off beautifully with the deep chi-house vibes of Satical, this is not an EP to be missed. Already getting rotation plays on Intergalactic FM and called by Moustache label impresario David Vunk “one of the best techno records of the year”, we can’t speak highly enough of this totally rocking record.

Martyn – Hear Me [3024006]

First out the gates is 3024-006, helmed by a pair of artists as unique as they are elusive; Zomby and Redshape. Easily one of the most talked about new producers of the last few years Zomby continues to evolve upwards and out, never settling on a particular style and constantly twisting the technicolour DNA of his output. Those smeared neon fingerprints are all over his reworking of Hear Me’ which lights up clattering percussion and a black hole of a bass drop with layers of sparkling neon crystal SID chip melodies. Tackling “Seventy Four” on the flip side is determinedly enigmatic Techno classicist Redshape. Responsible for a string of unashamedly human releases since 2006, his rich organic sound has recently caught the imagination of a 4×4 scene beginning to look beyond icy [and boring] minimalism for inspiration. A highlight of the forthcoming Fabric 50: Martyn mix CD, the original’s glowering pulse is carefully built on with walls of murky analogue warmth and hissing industrial ambience before reaching a monolithic climax.

Rondenion – Dark Adaption EP [RH-R2]

Dark Adaption is Rondenion’s second EP for Rush Hour and we are pleased to have him back! The freestyle disco cut-up ‘Sun Glare’ nicely sets the mood here and is a must have for Detroit house lovers. “Blue Canal” shows a deeper side of Rondenion; a bluesy, mid tempo groove that sticks. The title track gives way to, well, Rondenion’s darker side.. A hypnotic and mean cut that really builds, reminds us Theo Parrish’s rawer tracks.

Kirk Degiorgio – Isomer Shift [B1223]

Cover art - Kirk Degiorgio: Isomer Shift

Kirk Degiorgio, the man behind Future Past and As One, continues to innovate with unique sounds and dance floor friendly beats. The Isomer Shift EP is an uncompromising set of progressive dance floor beats in the tradition of Craig/Saunderson and Beltram. The four tracks are outstanding 21st century techno, an instant Degiorgio classic with typically syncopated dance beats, beautiful chords and rhythms that create memorizing and energetic soundscape. On the A side, ‘Isomer Shift’ is a perfect example of Degorigo’s relentless rhythmical talents. Twisted beats, beautiful strings and chords combine to create a master work of futuristic funk. Isidora, the second track brings bigger and spaceier atmospheres to a club fulfilled club beat. The B side takes the future funk even deeper, great strings provide the backing for two tracks that see Degiorgio returning to his previous influences with rhythms and bass lines synonymous with Kirk’s much acclaimed earlier works.

Elliott Dodge – Body Rock [MSR X.3]

Two brand new tracks from the rising star Elliot Dodge, whos currently working alongside Orlando Voorn on the newly resuscitated Night Vision label, while collaborating with Rennie Foster, Quantec and others. We’ ve always admired Elliots forward thinking approach to beat driven Techno music, which tips the hat to Detroit legends Hood & Mills while retaining a firm understanding of classic UK Techno.

VA – Sub:stance mixed by Scuba [OSTGUTCD11]

Cover art - Various Artists: Sub:Stance

When combining the energy of Berghain and Panorama Bar, together with a (in context) unusual side of dubstep, the Sub:stance club manages to take out the best of both “sides” – and fuse them into a concrete monster. Even though the sharp and ambitious sound may seem a bit uneasy as well as clever, the direction in which Sub:stance is going seems more natural than ever. Keeping the essence of the sounds that define dubstep, as well as the tempos, structure and attitude while fusing them together with a very techno-fied city and all the inspiration, aspiration as well as unique sense of bass music – Scuba seems more than just fit to create a mix CD of it all.

Dario Zenker / Marco Zenker – 92 / Think Twice [HRK001]

92 / THINK TWICE

The first born of the legendary Munich based technoclub that besides its booking agency and netlabel now grows into a vinyl label. In this sense it’s perfectly clear what to expect: straight, nameless Techno by the Zenker brothers that due to their youthfulness embody a new post-minimal generation for Munich and a brighter tomorrow for the Free State of Bavaria. Technomusic had been kept up and nourished throughout
every crisis especially at Harry Klein, ever since. So it’s all the more important for Harry Klein to actively start forming their scene with some own creative output. As well the cover totally positions itself in Bavarias southern metropolis showing the legendary Sunshine Pub. A small intimate sanctuary for the castaways of the night, open almost 24/7, existing in-between gay culture, afterhour and being a drinking hole ever
since. In Munich therefore the infamous Berlin question „ What comes after Monday?“ is considerably easier to answer then elsewhere. And by looking at it more closely you can probably picture the intensity of the gatherings going on there from the runlet of blood, sweat and tears leaking through the entrance.

Dario Zenker – Berlfort [VALT3]

Dario Zenker - Belfort

Vakant continues its VALT series with the third installment of uncompromising club tracks. Started in 2008 with Onur Özer and followed up by Tolga Fidan in 2009, Dario Zenker brings up VALT3 in 2010. Vakant’s representation in the decent south of Germany locates ‘Belfort’ as close to Detroit as it’s indefinite in time. Was it written by little Dario in the 90’s? Or maybe on a US tour in Detroit itself with some helping hands? We don’t know, but surely have a timeless piece of music here.

Sven Weisemann – Vivid Memento [STRXL008]

VIVID MEMENTO (BLUE COLOURED VINYL)

Smooth techno tracks from Sven Weisemann who seems to be one of the hot German talents. After his great releases on Mojuba he comes with more blissful Detroit techno. 4 tracks that fit perfectly on the cool Styrax label.

Reggie Dokes – Untill Tomorrow [Royal02]

UNTILL TOMORROW

After his big release on the Clone Loft Supreme Series, and great tracks on Prime Numbers and Philpot Mr Dokes is back in the spot lights. Here another intense three track ep with tracks that ll give you goose bumps all over. With his special way of programming, his dramatic strings and light piano play and shuffling house beats this is one of those artists with a special musical finger print that one recognizes out of thousands. A rare talent which puts more value on playing with his moods and emotions instead of aiming in straight dancefloor power. This 12 is building on what he started with the Chicago Pimp release… Pure house tracks with a deep irresistible drive combined with joyful keys and seductive strings. Some magic tracks from Mr Dokes!

Andy Vaz – Shadow City [YRE021]

The Yore Captain returns to his own Yore Imprint on the Labels 21st Release. “Shadow City” presents different visions of funky house grooves. The A side’s “The “Y” Theme” gets deeply moving with a funky house pulse before stoking the fire with the addition of speaking voices, a move which single-handedly jumpstarts the track. After the voices appear, the groove’s intensity escalates and plunges deeper, its gyroscopic house swing becoming more dizzying and torrential with each passing bar before coming to an acidy storming end. In its opening moments, “Shadow City” opts for a deeper and more serenading vibe by comparison, but that’s traded in for a slinkier attack at the three-minute mark that grows progressively more ferocious as the track makes its drastic upwards ascent. The B side’s B2 track, “Mumbai Dweller” keeps the focus primarily on the bottom end, specifically a strutting tribal-house funk groove that’s dragged even deeper by a throbbing bass undertow, adding Dark Chords to it, giving this EP a Darker Feeling towards the end.

Franco Rago & Gigi Farina feat. Lectric Workers – Robot Is Systematic [IDL007]

This is the holy grail of Italo Disco history. For the first time you can get the early Disco Magic releases of Franco Rago & Gigi Farino on one EP. The classics: Robot Is Systematic, The Garden, Life With You… and The Man From Colours plus the previously unreleased track For Hours Now by Pleasure Dicipline. This song could only be heard as a short sample on two mixage EPs, but on here you’ll find the full remixed version, with great synth hooks and classic breaks. The great picture sleeve shows us for the first time the faces behind the music.

Ben Rymer – La Trinciatrice [ARCO13]

disc

Serge Santiago’s Arcobaleno imprint ends 2009 with an excellent Italo inspired EP from Ben Rymer. Ben is ex of The Fat Truckers – you remember, they’re the Sheffield-based Brit electroclash band who wrote tracks about cheap motorbikes, import-export business and multiplex cinemas. He was also part of Gucci Soundsystem, who have released tunes on Bugged Out and DFA and who promoted the now legendary London club-night Druzzis. Most recently, Rymer has joined the Disco Bloodbath crew, London’s finest connoisseurs of only the best cosmic, disco music, and set up the Channel 83 imprint with fellow Bloodbather Damon Martin. Meanwhile, on this 12″ we have the “La Trinciarice” (meaning ‘The Shredder’). The ‘Main Mix’ is an epic, heavy yet cosmic journey into space. The ‘Dream Dub’ is a floating dream sequence with mid-way battle and an ending that slowly floats off…
