Smallpeople come along with another joint in splendid House Music to welcome wintertime. Dionne and Julius Steinhoff had an enormous success with their Meadows EP together with Christopher Rau on Smallville in last year’s autumn.

The duo of Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma (Braille), utilize the broader canvas of the album format to develop their collaborative process and incorporate the diverse influences present in their solo work to their sonic mixture. But both artists add a crucial sense of emotional sensibility and melodic sensuality that defines the Sepalcure sound.
A return to VR from Ben Sun, who delves into deeper territory on the original cut; emotive analogue synths washing over a roland drum groove and a swirling female vocal, all underpinned by a warm, rumbling bassline. The flipside features some heavyweight remix work from the prolific Deep Space Orchestra (Use Of Weapons, ART, Delusions Of Grandeur) and label mate Tyson Ballard teaming up with Vincenzo (Poker Flat, Dessous). Vincenzo and Ballard’s mix is a heavy hitting, moody take on the original, with subtle, dark strings and a growling, evolving bassline, while DSO round off the release with trademark fat drums and soaring melodic synth work.
Kevin Reynolds, showcasing his savvy for deep mesmerizing grooves, he brings us two tracks for the mind, the body and the soul, ready to conquer dancefloors worldwide. Fusing raw tribal elements with warm strings and chords, Kevin creates his own fresh trademark flavour, paying hommage to the original techno soul of his hometown along the way. Keeping traditions alive by retroperspective modernism.
First released on Beautiful Granville Records, the band FLO Crew, meaning For Lovers Only Crew, was meant to be an outline for an actual performing band. In Other words, all instruments heard on the FLO Crew recordings were meant to be assigned to instrumentalists, leaving these recordings as, actually, templates of song concepts. Thus, featured here are all instruments composed and recorded by Tevo Howard. Simply put, FLO Crew is Tevo Howard’s funk Band. The Band itself addresses all aspects of romantic love, which includes breakup songs like the one featured here. The band should be considered a funk outfit that pays its own funky way of looking at many genres and tempos. Both tracks in this selection are in their original arrangements and re-mastered.
William Smith aka Leisureware is a house DJ & promoter from Brixton, London (UK). William manages the Fill Yer Boots blog and organizes events under the same name. In the last two years he made a bunch of parties with quality house artists like Wbeeza, June, Hunee, San Soda, George FitzGerald, James Braun or Kenton Slash Demon, just to name a few. He compiled for us an over one hour session with deep and raw modern house sounds.

Four tracks from Jon McMillion’s wonderful eponymous LP get the remix treatment here on Seattle imprint Nuearth Kitchen. San Proper drops remixes of “Saw You Looking” and “Solette Simms”, with the fat chords and claps of the latter proving to be the highlight, although both efforts are worthy of many, many repeat listens. Elsewhere Ukrainian producer Vakula pops up to turn “Climbing Out” into a glacially paced jam replete with cosy pads and Motor City atmospherics. Amsterdam based duo Juju & Jordash turn in a moody analogue refix of “Love Of Parking” to round off an essential 12″.

Aybee shows his other side with the 7 short tracks on this EP. While the aural palette is similar to his 4 to the floor work, the beats here leaning more to the hip hop side. Funky & deep, the way you’d expect, but with a twist.
Mike Huckaby lets loose on Vladislav Delay and Pole on this excellent 12″ for Slice Of Life. Huckaby’s S Y N T H remix of “Keno” was a considered highlight of Remasters & Remakes, Halo Cyan’s exhaustive remix project of Delay’s SISTOL recordings from the late 90s. Released only on the Double CD and as download, it was begging for a vinyl release, and thanks to Slice of Life that is now possible. One long, bubbling Motor City groove primed for the early hours of a sweaty basement, it is complemented by Huckaby’s equally fine revision of Pole’s “Silberfisch”, all driving sub bass intricacies and tightly wound metallic percussive grooves.
Creme Organization presents some raw bangin, surf house from the no-cal beaches. Behind the name Seaside Houz Boyz is the genius of Legowelt aka Danny Wolvers.
A New Phil release coming from Ron Deacon. Phil 3 sounds like Carl Craig during his Landcruising album period jammin with Jean Michel Jarre, while someone is playing some jazzy keys in the corner of the studio.
