VC-118A – Inside [130DSR]

Samuel van Dijk releases his third album as VC-118A on Delsin Records. It dives deep into the sonic narrative of VC-118A (who is also known as Mohlao) and mixes up his unique sounds with evocative musical imagery. An album that goes from sparse, mysterious grooves to shiny underwater electro to frazzled and distorted techno via absorbing passages of ambient and overdriven machine workouts. It marks his first original work on Delsin, having released his distinctive brand of electro and techno on Frustrated Funk, Radio Matrix and Tabernacle before now.

Lapien – Brumal EP [TIKITA009]

Tikita return with more of their deep and groovy techno, this time from Lapien, who is one half of Artefakt and a master of deep voodoo sounds. His ‘Brumal’ EP includes a remix from label mainstays natural/electronic.system. that completes a deep and powerful three track disc. Lapien s ‘Brumal’ kicks off with deep, swirling pads and punchy drums. It s soft and atmospheric techno with a dubby bottom end and cosmic moods that is soothing and warm. The natural/electronic.system. remix of ‘Moonset’ is simmered down into an absorbing ambient soundscape with rolling, rubbery drums deep down below. It s thoughtful mind music to get utterly lost in. Last of all, the original ‘Moonset’ is another richly layered and spacious techno groove, with gentle percussion over underlapping drums and synths smearing out in all directions. It s brilliantly expansive music for intimate dance floors.

Anthony Naples – Take Me With You [ANS2000]

Anthony Naples returns with his second full length album, “Take Me With You”. Originally conceived as a D.J. mixtape dedicated to friends and the time spent with them in the morning hours after the parties over (or beginning) – it quickly morphed into a soft focused meditation on all things warm and intangible. “Take Me With You”‘s message is undoubtedly about escapism, given away by its happy-abductee cover art done by the legend Biscuit— but first and foremost it reflects on that lingering feeling one gets when walking away from the ones they love.

Sam McQueen – Sephoria EP [DSR/X18]

Sam McQueen’s 2004 EP Sephoria is next up to get the Delsin remaster, recut and reissue treatment. Across six cuts here -two of which have new titles- the little known producer mixes up. There is serene ambient landscaping on the ‘Inception’ and the beatless ‘Graduated Frequencies’, which resonates with exquisitely melancholic synths, then ‘Simple Pleasure’ is a celestial world of wiry synths and warm solar winds and 14 days has pillow drum programming and soft focus chords that sooth the soul. ‘Yemia’ is another symphony of chattery drum hits, meaningful chords and real astral techno beauty and ‘Outer Drive’ closes down the epic space voyage with delicate melodies and melancholic synths that encourage you to lay back and gaze into a starry night sky.

Valentino Mora – Transmagnetic [SPAZIO016]

Spazio Disponibile welcomes Valentino Mora for a new EP featuring four tracks of rhythmic exploration. Boss of the IDO label and known for his atmospheric deep techno sets, he brings a richly infused palette to his music. The four tracks on ‘Transmagnetic’ are steep in moody atmospheres, with exquisite sound design colouring in the grooves which range from dark and eerie to more subtly uplifting and enlightened. Icy synths, abstract motifs and a sense of paranoia and tension characterise each one, with barely-there drums all working to sink you into a trance.

Indio – Inca EP [DSR/X17]

Indio was a short lived but influential trio of John Beltran, Sam McQueen and Seth Taylor. They released an album and three EPs of hi tech ambient techno on Derrick May’s Transmat and the Rhythmic Tech label between 1999 and 2010. Here, three tracks from their self titled 2003 EP and one that was released on Styrax get put together, remastered and recut for the next Delsin reissue. Opener ‘Winter Long’ is classy techno cut that looks into the future. A symphony or gorgeous strings lights up the backdrop as scintillating drums dance and shimmery in the foreground. A Detroit sense of melody adds colour and ensures utter timelessness. ‘Blue Fantasy’ is another track that show off the power of machines to make music that touches your soul with its gorgeous strong stabs and masterful drum programming, and ‘Inca’ then slips more into a house groove, with busy, shuffling drums driving along beneath acidic twitches and broad, heavenly pads. It’s slick, urgent and compelling and ‘Nolita’ closes things with more delicate dancing machines, rueful synth work and rubber bass. It’s archetypal Detroit techno that sounds as good and forward facing now as it ever did.

VC-118A – Vaxna [DSR/X16]

The next carefully assembled Delsin re-issue EP is four tracks of slick electro from VC-118A aka Samuel van Dijk, an EP was originally released on AC Records in 2015, strictly limited and only sold by the label itself. All four cuts are electro of the highest order: opener ‘Vaxna’ is a mid tempo, atmospheric piece that places you in the middle of a desolate futuristic landscape, while ‘Sepia’ is a more rueful track that encourages your mind to wander amongst its thoughtful pads and sombre chords. It’s timeless and tender machine music that’s followed up by 25h, which has an astral feel. Beautifully smeared pads and a nimble bassline cast you free deep in the cosmos. The EP closes in style with ‘Versicolor’, an emotive electro jam with clever arrangements and immerse sounds.

VA – Air Texture Volume VI [AIR006]

The Air Texture Series asks two Producers/ Performers to select a double CD worth of unreleased music. The only guidance is the music should not be main floor bangers, other than that we get out of the way, allowing them autonomy over their selection. This time Steffi and Martyn were asked to step up. Exciting, since as residents at Berghain/Panorama Bar – two of the most important dancefloors in the world… how would two such respected artists approach our experimental ethos.

VA – Bias Jams 3 Munich Edition [IT038]

EL MORR, Kareem/DARIO Z/KONRAD WEHRMEISTER/MARCO/STENNY - Bias Jams: 3 Munich Edition

In 2012, the Zenker brothers introduced a new series on their Ilian Tape imprint: The Bias Tapes. We are now into the third edition come 2018 and it’s a great one. Like the name may suggest, The Munich Edition features some heroes of the local scene such as Kareem El Morr: who delivers the dark side electro bass of “Eros 404”, likewise label boss Dario Z. (ft. Maurice P.) goes down the same toute on “CEJ”. Elsewhere, dubby and cyclical warehouse techno in the vein of G-Man can be heard on Konrad Wehrmeister’s “CWS” and usual suspects Marco & Stenny hammer the message home in typically bold fashion with the emotive “Imcon”.
