The Dutch producer W1B0 aka Wibo Lammerts is back with an EP on Alienata’s label Discos Atonicos. The vibe across Heretofore EP is tense, combative machine music with a peak time bent and plenty of future-shock dystopia radiated into its atmosphere. “Fear Tactics” is an especially potent track, but for a uniquely creepy mood try “ACRONYM” too. The Master Scratch Band was first break-dance / hip-hop / electro funk band in Yugoslavia in 1984. The band members were Zoran Vracevic, Zoran Jevtic and Milutin Stoisiljevic, previously known as Data and Sizike. Jugoton, the biggest label in Yugoslavia, published Data 7” and MSB’s ‘Degout’ 12” with limited edition cassette containing two bonus tracks. Impossible to find on the collectors market, Fox & His Friends team in collaboration with Jugoton / Croatia Records is releasing a full, complete version of the rare “The Breakwar” tape, with tracks “Tonight” and “Pocket” never pressed on vinyl. All tracks are sourced from original studio tapes. With the kind help of Zoran Vracevic on credit list and liner notes, this is now the ultimate Master Scratch Band album, released originally in a year 1984 when break-dance was in the peak of its popularity in Yugoslavia. This release is pure breaks and hip-hop electro, done old-school way in one of the best studios in Yugoslavia, Enco Lesic’s ‘Druga maca’ in Belgrade.

Frigio Allstars 3 comes from the murky underbelly of electronics, where the nights are long and the days are short. Ashen tones pricked with lighter shades, all smeared with attitude in this collection of underground tracks made for the underground. Daniel Holt dives deep into the darkness with the nine minute industrial throb of “Vaccuous Transient.” A stomping beat pierces sci-fi score synthlines in a track brimming with menace. Grey people debuts on Frigio with the grime smeared jack of “Bruxism.” The flip is all first timers to the Madrid label with Scannoir offering “De Panaesher.” Sitting somewhere between synth lament and uplifting wave, this track is a true modern classic from a member of the GOTT camp. Madrid’s very own Negocius Man follows with “101 Wars” a winding worming work of glazed electronics to kill any dance floor and the amazing finale, “The Smile Of The Body” coming care of Bari’s talent based in Berlin under the moniker of Sons Of Traders.
French duo Maelstrom & Louisahhh, make their debut on Discos Atonicos with an excellent 3 tracker of metallic and twisted textures, riding between the electro and darkwave, backed with the pulses of EBM. An absolute weapon that comes with a heavy remix delivered by Snare-Master Cardopusher.
Bearing the torch of a new generation West Coast artists, The Hague based Pasiphae comes through with a haunting four-tracker on Pinkman. Weaving the accents of horror with the ambience of hope, ‘Possessed Realms’ offers a trip through desolate terrains of restless minds. The haven of the night congregates the wrecked ones and hope tainted with misery turns the grimness into light. The idea of finding comfort and rejuvenation in the dark is liberated, opening broad horizons for creation. While our future might be uncertain, the present is ripe for Pasiphae.
Krakow based Olivia joins Pinkman with a modern twist on ancient charming practices. “Dancing Snake” takes you to a surging tomb rave in the heat of the desert. Your dehydrated soul will be satisfied by liquid notes of acid, while your mind is hypnotized by oriental melodies. Grubby rhythms and crunchy kicks reminisce about reality, making you wonder whether this all was just a lucid dream.
Lou Karsh returns on X-Kalay with his next effort “Lifeforms”, a finely crafted knack for electro, and the 303 in particular.
Silicon Scally is the most prolific of Finlow’s alias projects, and on Dormant, the third Silicon Scally release for Sheffield’s Central Processing Unit, Finlow constructs four pieces of thrillingly futuristic broken-beat electro. These tracks never stand still, their little cells of synth and percussion always evolving. When combined with some stomping drum programming, the final result is an EP which has that rare balance of endless danceability and genuinely innovative production. It’s the sound of a master creator letting loose while also managing to keep everything in the pocket, a marvel of moving parts.
Back in December 2019, Lunar Orbiter Program added Turk Turkleton to its roster via a fine split EP. Now they’ve given the mysterious artist a chance to shine via a debut solo EP. It’s a quietly impressive affair containing four fine cuts, all of which boast stupendously sturdy drums and tons of intergalactic electronics. Our pick of a very strong bunch is ‘Rock It’, a throbbing peak-time workout smothered in undulating acid lines and razor-sharp electronic riffs. That said, there’s plenty to set the pulse racing elsewhere across the EP, including chunky, funk-fuelled opener ‘Safe’ and rumbling Drexciya-esque closing cut ‘X-Statione’.
