The Cyclist – Bones In Motion [LR022]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS486634-01A-MED.jpg

“Bones in Motion, the Northern Ireland hailing producer’s latest full-length exercise, is dance music Leaving Records style – thoroughly busted techno for the post-punk demo tape set. On a blurry path between house music’s early analog experiments and astounding vistas in modern digital production, you will hear ghostly wisps of woozy trance, distorted and dazzling, cooing through a thick haze of warbling warmth and soulful, revolving resonance. Propelled rhythmically by a ramshackle assemblage of maimed drum machines and battered samples, Bones in Motion doggedly pedals ahead with no finish line in sight – towards the endless possibilities of electronic music.”

Exillon – Mind Technocontrol EP [FRV009]

Frigio happily announces a new release by San Francisco based artist Exillon who is well known for his amazing works for Detroit Underground among other labels. In Mind Techno Control EP, Exillon (aka Jay Fields) drops 3 energetic and overwhelming tracks. On side A we have an incredible 10 minute long acid techno killer that for sure will burn dancefloors. You can hear all the analogue gear frequencies bouncing in your bones. On B side, the 2 tracks keep the same forcefulness and get closer to an IDM drum structure that maintain the groove but out of the straight 4×4 beat. By using deeper melodies and mixing different styles, the result is very rich in textures and makes the sound exotic.

Polysick – Daydream LP [AUDIOMER011]

These last few years Rome based producer Egisto Sopor has been turning heads with a steady stream of most excellent releases. A cdr on Legowelt’s Strange Life Records, a tape on 100 % Silk, a double LP on Planet Mu and an evergrowing series of jams that are put on soundcloud or on his youtube channel. All of which offer atmospheric acid tinged techno laced with idiosyncratic touches. He has thus developed quite a cult following among lovers of lo fi electronic music who eagerly await his next grainy video, that feel like lost transmissions from an early nineties MTV broadcast. Polysick doesn’t get out much and keeps a low profile which adds to his rather enigmatic standing. With his new LP ‘Daydream’, Egisto has created the perfect soundtrack to a midnight trip through darkened cityscapes. Starting out like a confused jam session it slowly takes off and twists into uncanny shapes conjuring up images of a futuristic nightlife that plays out under neon lights, with a feeling of dread constantly lurking in the shadows. This is techno that tells a tale; a storyboard that comes pushing through in muffled flashes. A chase scene through deserted back alleys, executed while hunter and prey are both in a half-awake state, stuck in an infinite loop. And when the ambient synth twirls unravel and a 4/4 pulse kicks in and tears through the dreamy state of conciousness, it never signals a reassuring release of tension. You might dance to it, but not without anxiously looking over your shoulder.

Healing Force Project – Hybrid Furrows [SEQ005]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS480920-01A-MED.jpg

Presented in two parts, “Hybrid Furrows” marks the second transmission of the mysterious Healing Force Project from Treviso, Italy. The first part is a dense, introspective overture. A ceaseless minor key drone lays the path for deep thrumming gong-like pulse and shuddering percussive textures. A song without a coda, a dream without resolution, it simply dissipates like fog—never revealing it’s center. The second part is similarly monolithic in nature, but crafted more for movement than meditation. It is vicious arpeggiated psychedelia, sharp enough to cut into the deepest recesses of your psyche.

Container – LP [SP025]

Cover art - Container: LP

The second full-length self-titled album by Ren Schofield’s Container project, “Container” is spare, minimal, Noise-influenced outsider Techno with a rigid focus. The opening track establishes the tonal palette of the record, with bit-crushed rhythms set against a deceptively simple drum pattern. A careening, looped oscillation appears midway through the track and steadily gains momentum and position in the mix. Schofield is adept at making these jarring juxtapositions feel organic and coherent. Standout track “Acclimator” teems with insectoid chatter and whips up fascinating polyrhythms by way of its creative and judicious use of delay. Some may write off Noise-Techno as trendy and topical (and perhaps much of it is), but Schofield’s efforts are well worth a listen.

Casetofoane – Electromagnetic [LCL13] FREE DOWNLOAD

Sent from the future to save the world from a possible quasi-cosmic tragedy, the duo Casetofoane (Tape), landed in 2012 after a failure of Discobolului Temporal 5000, is forced to adjust to these times. Using electronic beats and spacial instruments to mesmerize the audience, but also as a means of communication with intergalactic posterity, these two deviants are secretly working to save the music from superficiality and hypnotizing people from these times with retro rhythms, extracted directly the time machine.

Seawash – Pantomime EP [DSR-E1]

https://www.delsinrecords.com/images/releases/r3292_0.jpg

Following on from the success of Delsin’s new house series, the Dutch label are branching out again with a new sideline in electronica. The first release comes from Venetian producer Seawash and comprises 6 tracks of dense and fuggy, otherworldly sounds. ‘Pantomime’ opens the EP awash with ethereal yet underwater sounding synths, light and dark contrast with rough and smooth and the effect is one of pure electronic escapism. ‘Revolution’ shows a lighter side to Seawash and comes over like a mature adult lullaby with harmonic bells dangle above scraping, skeletal percussion. ‘Free Alternatives’ closes out the first side with a stripped and downbeat air: lazy snares cut out a rhythm as more blissful harmonics drift by like feathery clouds. On the flip ‘Close (Vox)’ shimmers like reflections on a lake as an r&b vocal drifts between sun-kissed guitar licks. Slow and sexy without being overly saccharine, it’s more than lush. ‘Emeralds’ is initially more industrial and sounds like machines in torment before Seawash’s surely trademark watery smears dissipate the tension and transport you to a deep sea world once again. Closer ‘Little John’ stutters and skips along with only the slightest hint of a ticking hi hat immersed in oceans of aqueous echo and delay. Traces of garage lurk within, but like the EP overall, it’s a truly unique listening experience.

Alan Hurst – Nzambi LP [ERS001]

https://imagescdn.juno.co.uk/300/CS452736-01A-MED.jpg

The debut release on Emotional Response comes from Alan Hurst – aka Brooklyn based producer Jason Letkiewicz – with a deeper exploration in to the experimental, ambient electronics first seen on his debut work ‘Processed World’. The results are a darker mixture of hypnotic rhythms and uncertain soundscapes, hinting at soundtrack and library forms. Known for his productions under a series of alias’, including Steve Summers and Innergaze, this is Jason’s sophomore album under his Alan Hurst moniker and is the perfect way to launch the label.

This is his 5th album for Touch. FE3O4 – Magnetite was recorded in Berlin between 2011 and 2012. In contrast to the dark vistas of his most recent releases, FE3O4 – Magnetite oscillates between the two poles of silence and noise. Using his signature sources which range from radio signals to sine wave generators, Mika Vainio creates a unique emotional journey that moves from the serene to the unsettling, always challenging the listener’s comfort zone.

Metasplice – Decant / Churn [DOSER015]

Fierce new two track 12″ from Metasplice, bringing premium ‘outsider techno’ onto this insider label. “In a time when techno and abstract music is sounding repetitive, Metasplice continue to utilize unconventional sounds and arrangements. “Decant”, being the more floor oriented track, combines groovy bits that turn into splashing immense noises and harmonies. “Churn” opens with a barrage of beautifully crafted harmonic sequences, then relentlessly descends into a sublime world. Both tracks are spectacular floating grooves that immerse the listener in the group’s unique and intense headspace.”

Mock & Toof – Temporary Happiness [TINC007]

After 2010’s ‘Tuning Echoes’ Mock & Toof return with their second album entitled ‘Temporary Happiness’, featuring the young Swiss artist Ghostape who features on half of the 10 tracks, the remainder being instrumentals. Their sound isn’t easily pigeon-holed & this album continues in the same tradition. Stylistically there are the occasional nods to today’s & yesterday’s myriad of electronic genres, but it is concocted in such a way that the resulting tracks can’t be easily slotted in with this gang or that scene. ‘Temporary Happiness’, as the title suggests, is darker, deeper & perhaps a little less accessible than its predecessor, but it does have its moments of light where the energy & drama of dance tracks ‘Snowball’ & ‘Walking the Streets’ shine through, contrasting with the murky & more melancholic ‘Confusion Time’ & ‘Don’t Work, Don’t Care’. There is also plenty of space and a dub-funk mottled vibe running through a good number of the tracks, which could be said to be a bit of a trademark. At its core ‘Temporary Happiness’ is made by a combination of old machines & new computers, where Ghostape’s vocals and the emphasis on hooks & melodies constitutes the more human side.

Two Dogs In A House – Eliminator EP [LIES016]

Two Dogs in a House, aka Steve Summers & Ron Morelli, took to a secluded studio in Stockholm Sweden during spring 2012 to record while on the road. Here we have the result of uninhibited access to machines with no time constraints and no distractions from the outside world. This freedom allowed the duo to expand upon their ideas of deconstructing conventional song structure and harnessing the power of what immediately surrounded them in the moment. Two full side tracks that will absolutely crush and/or isolate anyone who crosses through the sonic pathway of them. Perfect sounds for the apocalyptic world we live in.
