And then Bavaria was born. In other words this 4 tracker supported by your mum manages to come along heavy without rippin off some folk song and putting some lame ass ritterbeat underneath it.

Abstract Division – Relevance EP [LABRYNTH017]
Abstract Division venture away from their own Dynamic Reflection imprint for the first time, releasing the Relevance EP for Portuguese label Labyrinth. The deep and repetitive bleeps of “Relevance” suggest it’s a track for peak-time dancefloors during longer sets. Pacou inventively reworks the original into an effective loop made up of the same elements, only upping the intensity, whereas Michaelangelo does away with any bleeps in his version, substituting them for an acid bassline and dissonant synths. Forward Strategy Group maintain Abstract Division’s late night vibe via subtle blips embedded in dusty atmospherics and ricocheting reverberations.
Jeff Derringer – Situational Ethics [MRECLTD014]
Jeff Derringer fashions hypnotic loops into deep and darkly charged techno. Now comes Situational Ethics, Jeff’s first full three-track EP. Over “Ambition”, “Compassion” and “Shame” Jeff Derringer masterfully builds tension with shamanic cyclical rhythms and punishing basslines, weaved here into potent and intoxicating concoctions from haunted beginning, viper-laden middle to heavyweight end. Electric Deluxe bedfellow Brendon Moeller then concludes the EP with a rework of “Shame” plied with signature Moeller-crafted sounds over a punchy, turbulent beat that only just about lifts Jeff Derringer’s powerful spell.
Parassela – Label Nightmares EP [VVR004]
The Analogue Cops and Blawan are back on Vae Victis with the second installment of their brand new Parassela series. The intent of threesome to restore the old school analog vibe is clear also in this 4 tracks ep of raw and gritty techno which also feature a remix from Italian label pals Die Roh.
Nick Höppner – The Weed EP [ECHOCORDCOLOUR022]
The new bomb on Echocord Colour comes from Nick Höppner and Scott Monteith aka Deadbeat. Höppner only releases sporadically, but whether it’s solo or alongside Lee Jones as MyMy, his records are always remarkable. The 2 tracks for this release are both peaktime tracks. Deadbeat did the remix.
Mala – Mala In Cuba [BWOOD090CD]
Vinyl Boxset includes 4 x 180g vinyl, including free download code with bonus tracks. Album sampler BWOOD089 also fits in to complete the boxset. The results of a true culture clash, ‘Mala in Cuba’ marries the intricate rhythms and deep, spiritual roots of Cuba with Mala’s own roots in South London and his dedication to bass culture.
Machine Drum / Sun Ra – Views Of Saturn Vol 3 [ACSR12X3]
Machine Drum applies his spur of the moment style to the 1979 Sun Ra classic Door Of The Cosmos. A slightly different take from the previous two, but equally as experimental in its own right, his trademark frenetic psychedelic high speed beats are at work here for a truly unique interpretation of one of Sun Ra’s most recognizable works. All the covers come with bespoke cover art via Stephen Serrato and photographer Simon Wald-Lasowski and this looks like their best yet.
Jamie 3:26 / Boogie Nite – Do The Mickey [LIH007]
This latest missive from the Lumberjacks label features a mixed bag of reliably groovesome oddities. There’s the disco-jazz madness of Jamie 3:26’s “Can You Feel It”, and three wide-eyed bangers from the unknown Boogie Nite. Of these, the most obviously upbeat is the loopy funk/soul strut of “Do Your Thang” and James Brown-ish “Sexy Sexy Sexy”. Most interesting of all, though is “Earth Calling Mickey”, a Balearic disco weird-out that sits somewhere between oddball house and head-nodding disco.
Peabody & Sherman – James Baldwin [SB12001]
This project features extracts from the audio portion of a documentary film shot of a discussion led by James Baldwin and Dick Gregory at the West Indian Student Centre in London in 1968.
Dam Funk – I Don’t Wanna Be A Star! [STH2302]
Four new tracks from boogie funk ambassador Dam, recorded in Ladera Heights, California. “I Don’t Wanna Be A Star!” from the forthcoming album Invite the Light. Includes a cover of Prince’s “17 Days”.
Sigha – Scene Couple / Brood [LWG001]
Sigha a.k.a James Shaw returns to Hotfllush Recordings with his heavily anticipated debut LP, ‘Living With Ghosts’. For this offering he presents twelve impressive techno and ambient productions and fuses his love of classic UK techno with the contemporary sound that currently pulses through Berlin’s Berghain. This limited 10″ is an extract from the album, featuring two tracks. ‘Brood’, an additional track not included on the aforementioned album and the acid-licked ‘Scene Couple’, a track from the LP.

Unbalance – Sand EP [MUXD007]
One of the deepest techno musicians out there Unbalance returns to Mutex Recordings with an incredible sound collage. His “Sand EP” is going to take you on a long journey through the unknown Siberian soundscapes. Dutch veteran techno producer Jeroen Search supplied two remixes of “Dependence” with some jacking 909 rhythms and spooky synths to add more dancefloor tension to the sound of this marvelous EP.
