ITPDWIP – Eye Can See The Darkness (In The End Of The Tunnel) [LTWHT010]

Eye Can See The Darkness (In The End Of The Tunnel) is a shot of light in the dark cavern of a broken heart. Blinded By The Lights rips apart the heart-string orchestra rather than just pulling on the strings. A love ballad lost in the haze of the mid-summer, faded to blue and repackaged as a gentle and tender winter anthem. Sharing the A-side with the lucid dreaming of Jeremiah R on the drum-heavy remix. On the flip, I Am Not Him is a filter-squelching, bass-slapping meander into green haze territory, that finally erupts into a swagger of familiar Detroit-channeled drums and steady faded pads. Outernet grumbles up the black-hole cosmic radiation with an industrial-tinged number that plunges the depths of deep-space. Proper growling and clanging synths to add the right amount of raw, just at the end.

The Valley And The Mountain – Gentle Waters Keep Moving [PF013CD]

Only a few nuggets of information exist on The Valley and The Mountain. ‘Gentle Waters Keep Moving’ is the first full length outing from TVTM and their/his/her most absorbing work to date. Sharpened edges are rounded, 303 squawk softened and rhythms mellowed as ten tracks of melting music is served. The Detroit denizen calls on the sounds of the hometown. Techno is at the album’s heart but frosted touches of electro are present, warming acid twangs, house grooves with all being dipped in a refreshing undercurrent of electronica.

DMX Krew – Space Cucumbers [CPU00100110]

Following his stunning box set on Fundamental Records, Ed Upton aka DMX Krew makes his third outing on CPU, increasingly becoming home for his darker side. Space Cucumbers contains a wealth of expression with Italo disco arpeggiators, seldom heard time signatures, Hi-NRG, and bass heavy electro funk. Featuring the usual aquatic tendencies mixed with echoes of darkwave. Vintage analogue strings, overdriven acid and Upton’s favourite drum machine all make an appearance riding on his signature funk laced arrangements.

DJ Stingray – Psyops For Dummies & Purge [P026]

Reissue of 2012 “Psyops For Dummies” with two unreleased tracks: “Hypoalgesia” and “Cognitive Load Theory”. Sherard Ingram – DJ Stingray – has been an active member in Detroit’s electronic music community for nearly 25 years now. Never shy of a collaboration, Ingram spent much of the ’90s teaming up with Carl Craig, Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir and Kenny Dixon Jr. to create a rich downtempo sound as Urban Tribe, with culminated in the release of 1998’s much-lauded The Collapse of Modern Culture album. He was then recruited to be the tour DJ for Drexciya in their final days, taking to the decks as DJ Stingray and masking his face from the audience, something he continues to do for all of his DJ appearances.

DYNAREC - In Your Hand

Dynarec is one of those who is capable to impress each and every time that he delivers a release. Dynarec improves on even the most advanced experimental electro as no one did before, giving it depth, awareness and knowledge, making it more rigid and linear. A journey into those post Drexciya atmospheres which reach some of the highest moments in a new. Romantic and complex, rich in detail and unlikely to be imitated or surpassed by others on the contemporary new electro scene. Drexciyan kind of Electro with The Exaltics and Voiski on remix duty.

Blixaboy – Humanoid X [CPU00100011]

BLIXABOY - Humanoid X

Humanoid X is CPU’s deepest foray into Detroit techno so far, from Blixaboy aka Mwanza Dover – Texas based artist, friend of Cygnus and very much part of the local electro scene. Dover presents an album influenced by the pioneers of the hypnotic groove. On first pass you’ll find elements of krautrock through to the Belleville three, all with finely crafted arrangements that reveal themselves in more detail on each listen. A cyberpunk theme runs throughout as Blade Runner-esque synths wash over the album evoking late night electric-city noodle restaurant contemplation. Blixaboy has selected 4 of the more DJ friendly tracks from the album for the vinyl E.P. treatment.

Versalife – Self-Replication [TRUST027]

Best known to the techno world as Conforce, Boris Bunnik’s sprawling body of work reaches far beyond his acclaimed techno productions. Recording under names as Silent Harbour, Hexagon, Vernon Felicity, and Versalife he has contributed sublime releases to the genres of ambient, electronic dub, acid house, and electro over the years. It is his Versalife project that now receives its first outing on DJ Glow’s long-running TRUST imprint, and if any further proof is needed that Bunnik is a master of the resurging electro genre, this should easily win over any doubters. ‘Self-Replication’ starts out with a nod to the aquatic innovators of the genre on ‘Raptures of the Deep’, but quickly leaves their many imitators behind in its wake, effortlessly contrasting subtle textures with clanging beats, spiraling arpeggios with grumbling basslines. Bunnik’s sonic boldness peaks on ‘Gentrification’, a sprawling 7-minute journey through jittery rhythms, bottomless echoes, and foreboding harmonies, before ‘Pathogen’ closes the EP almost with a touch of pop, combining a Boards of Canada-style bassline with FM chimes that hark back to the golden days of synth music.

Heinrich Mueller & The Exaltics – Project STS-31 – Spiralgalaxie [SOM040]

Project STS-31-Spiralgalaxie (Hubble Telescope Series Vol.3) A clash of the Titans! Celebrating Solar One Music’s 40th release and 10th anniverary, this split LP sees two stars under various disguises, Heinrich Mueller (aka Der Zyklus and various other projects) and German producer Robert Witschakowski aka The Exaltics, back to back in a no return odyssey through the depths of the Galaxy. Expect nothing but contemplative and cosmic electro beats using original outer-space sounds from the Universe. Closing the Hubble telescope trilogy which brought to you Luxus Varta and more recently E.R.P. (respectively with the “Everything Is Nothing” and “Ancient Light” EP’s), trippy “Spiralgalaxie” will mark a new step in SOM’s History. As usual, the final chapter of the series dedicated solely to Hubble and all the great scientists and engineers at the NASA and ESA, comes with a beautiful cover print picture taken by the Space Telescope. CD comes with bonus tracks by Project STS-31, The Exaltics, Robert Heise and a extended alternate bonus Version of Der Zyklus – Ionospheric Delay.
