HAEX-HRLL – Further From The Truth LP [GDLP007]

Welcome to a science fiction nightmare helmed by the legend that is DJ Overdose. Alien prey, DNA in test tubes. Who is being regrown? Will the town survive? Who has been replaced? In these present times of truth vs fiction it’s easy to become paranoid. We have the soundtrack HAEX-HRLL’s Further From The Truth: An abductee saga by replicons from beyond the moon. Chiming in between hot electro, Vangelis dream scapes, XTRO drone. This is one of OD’s most fascinating records to date. Art by a mysterious figure.

VA – The Glowing [BT017]

MORAH/SOLID BLAKE/IVNA JI/VERTICAL 67 - The Glowing

BT17 The Glowing brings together an array of fresh up and coming producers. Morah has cut his chops as a producer with releases already under his belt on Helena Hauff’s Return to Disorder, Berceuse Heroique and Lux Rec. One Conversation with a Funny Demon is pure grimy power electronics for the freaks. Solid Blake from the Copenhagen based Apeiron Crew makes her production debut with the creeping Burns. On the flip, Ivna Ji’s celestial beauty of Oscillating Universe opens up proceedings before Vertical67’s Distortion takes us deep into the rabbit hole to finish.

Plant43 – Grid Connection [SHIP044]

PLANT43 - Grid Connection

Emile Facey aka Plant43 is back on terra Shipwrec. On skeletal rhythm supports strings and bass intertwine, link and disappear. Facey performs audio alchemy, transforming cold chords into organic warmth, transfiguring electrical impulses into palpable emotion. Frigid currents flow through bright bars, ephemeral percussion snap at heels of soaring keys as Plant 43 draws you deeper and deeper into the bare and beautiful brilliance of Grid Connection.

Tolouse Low Trax – Decade Vol.2 [ATN030-02]

Further unreleased jams from the great Tolouse Low Trax. The producer’s distinctive musical voice – wayward, dystopian, and fearlessly experimental – seems particularly fitting given recent political events. Opener “Calirough”, all sustained horror chords, distorted percussion and ghostly samples, is particularly potent, though the warped, metallic chug of “Hiroglyph” is not far behind. He returns to 4/4 pastures with the post-truth throb of “Wooden Words”, before imagining a bleak future on the intense hum of “Monia”, a typically dark and crunchy workout that’s as chilling as a Donald Trump presidency.

Lerosa – Subcouture [IDLE040]

LEROSA - Subcouture EP

Idle Hands presents the first 12″ of 2017 from Lerosa, a four-tracker beamed across the Irish Sea to Bristol. The ‘Subcouture’ EP sees the esteemed producer operating at the intersection of dubby electro and deep house, taking in the sub-heavy frequencies Bristol is known for, whilst retaining an agile and sleek simplicity. ‘Maryelen’ is a tight, yet pastoral electro track where dreamy pads contrast against tough, cutting drum programming. ‘Line Bass’ is a tumbling and bouncy number, that doffs its cap to reggae disco and features vibrant synths peppering the mix. ‘Scruffy’ takes on a slower and more playful mood, featuring light licks of acid and off kilter keys. ‘Subcouture’ is a subtle dubbed out house cut with a hint of shuffle.

Marcello Giombini – Computer Disco [MGLP101]

GIOMBINI, Marcello - Computer Disco

One of the greatest euro synthi-disco album of early 80’s finally reprint by Mondo Groove Records. Original released in 1982, “Computer Disco” is the most Kraftwerk-ian italian production. Marcello Giombini was a pioneer of early sequencers and in this cult LP produced cheesey cosmic synth pop a little bit italo disco oriented. Every fan of 70/80’s synthesizer music and electronic djs should put in his collection if they not already possess the extremely rare original edition.

ITPDWIP – Eye Can See The Darkness (In The End Of The Tunnel) [LTWHT010]

Eye Can See The Darkness (In The End Of The Tunnel) is a shot of light in the dark cavern of a broken heart. Blinded By The Lights rips apart the heart-string orchestra rather than just pulling on the strings. A love ballad lost in the haze of the mid-summer, faded to blue and repackaged as a gentle and tender winter anthem. Sharing the A-side with the lucid dreaming of Jeremiah R on the drum-heavy remix. On the flip, I Am Not Him is a filter-squelching, bass-slapping meander into green haze territory, that finally erupts into a swagger of familiar Detroit-channeled drums and steady faded pads. Outernet grumbles up the black-hole cosmic radiation with an industrial-tinged number that plunges the depths of deep-space. Proper growling and clanging synths to add the right amount of raw, just at the end.

Steffi & Dexter – Zatlap [KLAKSON025]

The original Klakson funkateers Steffi and Dexter return to true form with three punchy techno/electro cuts. “Zatlap” on the A Side is a lush nighttime driving track with an urgent bassline powering all through the song while spaced out strings develop. The B-side’s “Kopstoot” is a pure funk workout in the Detroit tradition while “De Fles” builds a stack of airy pads on top of a playful question and answer bass riff to maximum effectiveness.

Continuing where ‘Subspace Transmission 1’ left off Casionova brings another triple-tracker 12″ of synth jams and dancefloor grooves ranging from the merciless bass-driven Mecha-disco assault of ‘Droids Night Out’ to the epic, booming and deep bass box-jam ‘Magic Touch’ and with the galloping, mystical and hypnotic ‘Necromancer’s Spell’ sandwiched in between – for those who like their electro-disco raw and relentless.

Le Cliché – Consumer Manoeuvres LP [CBR011]

“Consumer Manoeuvres” by Le Cliché is the latest release on Cold Beats Records. Le Cliché is the electronic music project of Gerard Ryan, professor of marketing at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. The music takes a critical view of the malaise of marketing and its effect on our postmodern consumer society. It deals with serious issues as diverse as consumer privacy, identity, fad diets, fast fashion and the hyper-reality of contemporary advertising. Yet it does so always with an optimistic sarcasm and playfulness. This new collection of songs on Cold Beats Records, entitled Consumer Manoeuvres, started out as a remix project but very quickly turned into an all-together different record, a series of collaboration, covers and reimagining’s of the original music. Cold Beats Records presents some of the most influential electronic artists from the underground, minimal synth and coldwave scene from the last 35 years in an all-together darker record Le Cliché’s other records. Collaborators include Mark Lane, Mick Milk, Kline Coma Xero and Spatial Relation (USA), ADN’ Ckrystall (France), Red Fetish, John Costello, This is the Bridge and Jonteknik (UK), KuBO (Ireland) Moss Garten (Sweden) JJ Ibañex of Kremlyn, and Wladyslaw Triejo (Spain) Delayscape (Denmark), Gay Cat Park and Effetto Joule (Italy). These artists have appeared on many of the most influential darkwave, coldwave, italo and minimal synth music on a host of leading labels including Minimal Wave, Mannequin, Medical Records, Peripheral Minimal, Anna Logue, Domestica, Obscure Identities 1980, Vinyl on Demand, La Forme Lente and Kernkrach.
