Arcanoid / Diffuse Arc – La Colera De Los Debiles [OD001]
New label Odio emerge with a real statement of intent for their debut release which finds Diffuse Arc and Arcanoid sharing sides on a 12″ with some excellent sleeve art. Diffuse Arc handles the A side with eleven minute modular epic “Acto 1 Origen” which swells from its initial almost-silence into a far sighted monster that will have you pulling the needle back time and time again. Semantica and Tabernacle affiliate Arcanoid provides two tracks with “Acto 2 Esencia Del Drama” a classicist take on Drexciyan electro complemented by the more abstract sounds of “Acto 3 Conclusion”.

DMX Krew – Zsagi [ZSAGI]
After landing his malfunctioning PX-4000 on the purple planet, Captain DMX steps out of the smoldering cockpit. After barely setting foot on the dusty landscape, the Captain is startled by deep thudding from over the hills. Dragging his oxygen pack with one hand and his atomizer with the other, he sets off in search of the other-wordly din. Over the hill his pupils adjust to the stroboscopic lightning and below him lies a sea of strange creatures moving together as one body. A cosmic sermon takes place under the three suns in the sky, mechanical and stuttered frequencies set a manic pace and drive the dark creatures back and forth. Captain DMX sighs a heavy breath and starts to descend into the fray….

Most pieces consist of a repeating chord progression, where the real change happens at a spectral/dynamic level, as opposed to the harmonic/chordal one. I believe that the former are just as effective as the latter, in the sense that the sonic presentation (distortion , filtering, wave shaping, etc) are just as expressive as a chord change or chord type, and often reinforce said chord progressions.

Analogue synthesizer enthusiast Bezier first surfaced on Dark Entries in 2012, delivering the hard-wired retro-futurist fantasy Ensconced. Two years on, he’s finally ready to release the follow-up, the similarly sharp and sci-fi themed Telemores. As with his previous output, the influences are obvious – think Radiophonic Workshop, electro, minimal, new wave and Italo-disco – but he smartly steers clear of pastiche and empty revivalism. Instead, we’re treated to a range of dancefloor-friendly instrumental cuts, cyborg jams, and intoxicating robot rinse-outs. Closer “Fukushima”, in which he doffs a cap to the synthesized horror-disco of John Carpenter, is particularly potent.
VA – Time Capsule aka 808 Box [FR008]
Madrid’s Fundamental Records not only release a high volume of contemporary electro, but they do so in fine style thanks to their overloaded packs and comprehensive compilations. This time they really done a number on us with this 808 Box release, a jaw-dropping fifty-tracker sealed in a trendy DJ shoulder bag tagged with the most infamous of all drum machines on the planet..! The music comes from all corners, and we see familiar faces laying down some truth on those beats; check the gear by Patronen, CPU, Alex Stark, Luke Eargoggle, Sync24, Tau Sagittarii and UHU.

Miss Kittin & The Hacker – Lost Tracks Vol. 1 [DE098]
The Dark Entries label presents some previously unheard archive material by Caroline “Miss Kittin” Herve and Michel “The Hacker” Amato. Four tracks recorded between 1997 and ’99 – when their production partnership was in its’ infancy – The Lost Tracks Volume 1 contains a number of fuzzy, stylish, floor-friendly bangers, from the S&M-themed madness of opener “Leather Forever” and stripped-back electro gem “Nightlife”, to the high-tempo acid-loaded freakishness of “Loving The Alien”.

Coming from a cultural landscape that is still yet to fully form can instil in a person an unusually strong force of will. Autarkic is the latest representation of Tel Aviv’s cold wave scene. The leftfield movement through an Eastern lens. Holding up a mirror to the current state of his world, Autarkic (assisted by Red Axes) has provided 4 tracks which manage to be thought provoking, compelling, and even anthemic, in equal measure.

Back in 2011, Chicago’s Beau Wanzer reshaped the angry body-music of the now-defunct Houston duo Tense with an 8 minute claustrophobic TR-909 workout. The track never saw the light of day on vinyl… until now.
214 – North Bend [SHIPLP003]
Cultured Dutch label Shipwrec is to team up with Frustrated Funk to release ”North Bend”, a new album by 214 aka Chris Roman. The album features atmospheric techno ambient with scattered beats, lush electro that is filled with true electronic soul and cosmic soundscapes that come from another world. This album is furthering Roman’s own signature sound as well as a new and subtly evolved brand of electro that builds on a rich history of electronica. It’s another fine statement that reminds us just why Roman, the Frustrated Funk and Shipwrec families, are such puristic minds that push music from the heart.
Dollska – So Long for a Small Storm EP [KISSA002]
Scots-Belarusian electronic producer Dollska (formerly Dollskabeat) returns with her new EP ‘So Long for a Small Storm’. The EP features a rare remix by Detroit Legend Gerald Donald (Drexciya/Arpanet/Japanese Telecom) under the guise of Rudolf Klorzeiger and a bonus track ‘Opus Dreams’ by Dollska on the B-Side.
