N.O.I.A. / Rubicon / Rude 66 – Morning Bells [COTF16]

Crimes Of The Future continues to demonstrate its expertise in the field of modern day electro and wave based music with this incredible one off missive from an unlikely super group. N.O.I.A, Rubicon and Rude 66 join forces for the bright and bold “Morning Bells,” which stirs up a generous dose of Italo, techno and electro in a cauldron and serves it through a massive wall of synth-powered sound. Who else to remix such a concoction but Timothy J. Fairplay then? The multi-faceted London producer stays true to the original’s dazzling colour and simply beefs up the beats for a cracking alternative mix to the original.

Junior Fairplay – Faxes From The Future [EES029]

It’s been a hot minute since Timothy J. Fairplay slipped on his Junior Fairplay guise, but he’s done just that for this bleep-tastic new 12″ on (Emotional) Especial. “End Of Love” is unabashed in its embrace of early Yorkshire techno tones, making a fine job of resurrecting the bleep spectre and letting it shake up the dance once more. Roy Of The Ravers is a smart choice of remixer, and he brings an off-kilter acid rub to the table in his idiosyncratic, braindance-inflected style. The B-side is equal laden with purposefully dusty dance grooves transplanted from the late 80s / early 90s, with “Faxes From The Future” hitting a particularly sharp point in its lazy breakbeat roll and the clanging harmonies of the stabs.

Timothy J. Fairplay – Where Is The Champion? [CHAR-LP01]

Charlois present “Where is the Champion?”, Timothy J. Fairplay’s first full length solo album. Twelve shifting, shuffling and shimmering tracks make up this debut. Cruising the highways and byways between proto-techno, horror disco and forlorn wave, Fairplay conjures up his creations from metal and smoke. Saturated snares, clipped claps and warbling chords are dusted with distortion. And this idea of distortion, manipulation and the blurred line is omnipresent. Innocent and sinister, cruel and playful, accepted boundaries are brazenly ignored as engines growl and synthlines soar.

Dynamite Winter Palace – The Catechism Of A Revolutionary [KAP001]

Blood is thicker than water and eventually long time friends Bordello A Parigi and Knekelhuis pageant a solid piece of music together. Alessandro Parisi also known as Hesperius Draco from Portenone – Italy – and London based Timothy J Fairplay found themselves in the middle of an ice cold world, opening their wintery project with the “Romance” soundtrack. The warm synth lines will single handedly set Moscow’s frozen red square on fire. The Italian soundtrack synthesisers will touch the trans-siberian world and end with a slow burner named “What Is To Be Done”.

Timothy J. Fairplay – My Etherealrealness [CHAR007]

Pinkman follows on his blooming imprint Charlois with another addition from label favourite Timothy J Fairplay. ‘My Etherealrealness’ kicks things off with tape saturated drums propelling interweaving sequences and nostalgic lead lines before ‘Phantom Trap’ sets springing kicks bounding under tense and sweeping melodies. Pressure builds behind a wall of coiling synth lines before ‘Flying Saucer Review’ lays a reverberated thud under playful percussive flashes and more adroit synthesis. Fluttering textures and gentle tape purrs persist throughout as the tracks dismantlement gives way eerily flickering tones that cap off another prime addition to the Charlois catalogue and another solid 12″ from artist going from strength to strength. Limited to 300 copies, with silkscreened sleeves.

Timothy J Fairplay – No News From New York [WFL001]

Glasgow has a new label on the horizon in the shape of Work For Love who kick off proceedings with a fine 12″ from Mr Timothy J Fairplay. Given his previous form and the title of this 12″, it’s easy to suggest the influence of John Carpenter looms over No News From New York, but there are more strings to Fairplay’s bow than that as the four tracks prove. There is a range of tempos explored here, with “Carla Is Typing A Message” a deathly crawl through delay-laden synth drama, whilst “Court Street Shuffle” is a life-affirming box jam that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Legowelt record. Those melodies! “Mickey’s Theme” is more redolent of Fairplay’s celebrated work with Sir Weatherall, whilst the title track is the slowest production here and is quite captivating.

Bulb – Bulb [COTF008]

Crimes of the future are proud to present the first recorings from Bulb. Bulb are Willie Burns, Scott Fraser and Timothy J. Faiplay. Side A combines ghetto techno breaks with something from wayward Kosmiche studio experiments in deepest Germany. On side two dark ambient synthesis and stabbing drums combine to drop you somewhere in a world of psychedelia and cavernous cave dwellings.

Haunted Doorbell – Unconnected Thoughts On Jacking [COTF007]

HAUNTED DOORBELL - Unconnected Thoughts On Jacking

Haunted Doorbell are Timothy J. Fairplay and Matilda Tristram. ‘Unconnected thoughts on jacking’ is four tracks of naive melodies, rough slamjack drums, and new age atmospheres. ‘Starclash’ kicks off side A, with its dramatic arpeggios and SID chip crashes, Techno to soundtrack the Saturday night laser show at the planetarium. Following is ‘A night of adventure’ with its eastern scales and washy broken chorus unit hiss. On side B we have ‘Beautiful Sheffield’ – an ode to electronic music’s (possibly) most important British city and the title track rounds of the EP – house music for listening to while looking out to sea.
